Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: Outside Kings Landing

[3rd POV]

The trip to Kings Landing had been an interesting one. As unlike their trip to Winterfell, Alice wanted to take the trip to Kings Landing a bit slower, and on horse. This was mostly because they planned on Kings Landing being the last major place they went to.

The last cities they wanted to visit would be short trips that would last like a day at most, and would just be sight seeing, and nothing more than that. Where was Kings Landing was going to have a lot of exploring, since there was an insane amount of hidden areas throughout the city. A big reason why was because of Maegor.

Didn't help that a lot of areas were buried and hidden under rubble thanks to the Dance of the Dragons from like two centuries ago. There was so many hidden areas that was no hidden thanks to the war that had destroyed areas of the city that had still never been repaired. So there was a ton for them to explore and see.

That and Alice had asked Lucifer to cleanse the city of some of it's rot. Like the child abduction rings, the underground fights where they made children fight others to the death, including animals and other little kids. Rape was a scourge throughout the city, and a ton more that all combined to make it a shit hole of epic proportions.

It certainly did not help that it quite literally smelled like shit. With the city not having a proper sewage system, the city was quite literally being overrun with shit and piss. And that was not a good thing for...anyone really. Meaning it was only a matter of time before a horrible virus breaks out, and wipes out thousands across the city.

Honestly it was a miracle that nothing had happened yet. Nothing truly terrible at least, other viruses and diseases had broken out before, but nothing like what Lucifer knew could appear in those sorts of conditions.

Really the people of Kings Landing had some truly insane luck to not have to deal with a massive virus sweeping though the city, and potentially even beyond. As if it's as an easily spreadable disease...well, they were going to lost a lot of lives.

Their knowledge on stopping the spread of disease was not exactly the best, and was a part of the reason why diseases that would normally not the the biggest problem in the world for most other worlds even at this level, was a giant catastrophe that could end the lives of tens if not hundreds of thousands.

That was how horrible a proper disease was formed. And it's only a matter of time before it happens. Which is why once Lucifer enters the city, she was going to miraculously begin to clean the city of the disgusting sewage that was beginning to seep into the streets more and more.

She was also planning on fixing up any of the wells that were placed around the city, which from her knowledge, there were a few of them. She wanted the people inside to have the ability to obtain at least some drinking water that was safe for them. And if she had to, she'd use a bit of her power to make it permanent, so that they could gain access to water for as long as they will need it.

Which considering the state of the current world, and the severe lack of things such as basic hygiene, Lucifer was pretty confident that they'd need it for a long long time, decades at the least.

Realistically they'd need to for even longer than that. At least, if they continued at their current pace of development and growth. With the maesters having access to pretty much all of the knowledge found in Westeros, the people of Westeros could not work to develop and grow further. Since the key to developing further is knowledge, and without knowledge, they will never grow, not truly at least.

The maesters were keeping knowledge that would be helpful hidden. They were purposely stopping the growth and development of others so that the Lords of Westeros would continue to heavily rely on them. For as long as they had control over knowledge, they would have power. And as long as they have power, they can continue to control the knowledge that others gain.

It was a repeating cycle.

The other big problem with the development of Westeros was because books were not widely known. They were hidden away, hard to get, and incredibly expensive when you did get them.

The printing press would revolutionize Westeros. But it would also lead to the end of the power that the Maesters held, and it was entirely because of that fact that the maesters did not develop something like that.

Even though the development of the printing press could go on to help them if they just did it properly. They could start colleges or schools around Westeros, which would be hugely helpful to the rest of Westeros. It would also make the lords reliant on them for at least one more generation, maybe two.

For the maesters were still far and away the most knowledgeable folk in the entirety of Westeros. Hell, they were some of the most knowledgeable people in the entire world. As their spread of knowledge was truly impressive, even if there was a few organizations in Essos that were superior in this aspect.

Lucifer didn't like any of this. Which is why she had also sneaked Ned a paper detailing the creation process of the printing press, and making sure to make it clear in the letter why he needs to keep it hidden for now. At least until they had built up their military more, stopped depending on the maesters so much, and did the other idea she had given.

Making a college in Wintertown, where people from far and wide could come and learn and grow. This way the North would have a rapidly increasing burst of importance that would make other kingdoms somewhat reliant on them in terms of certain things.

And thanks to the printing press, they'd be the only place that could provide the books to learn from. This way Tywin Lannister or one of the other arrogant and greedy lords could not just start their own college and poach all of their potential students.

Lucifer found that this would be the key to helping the North develop into a powerhouse, besides the development of a proper naval force, the development of the mines that she had pointed out, and a few other ideas that she had given the man.

She just hoped Ned was smart enough to pull it off. But from what she could tell, he was. And if not, then he would be getting help from Catelyn and Luwin. The maester was absolutely loyal to the Starks, Lucifer knew that for certain.

On top of that Luwin hadn't been sending proper reports about the Starks to the citadel for years now, and had been purposely covering up several things that he had been noticing about them.

At the moment Lucifer was walking towards the gates that would give them entrance to the city, Alice and Daenerys were walking close to her. They had notice me not charms on them, so nobody would be causing them any problems.

But they decided to stay close either way, as Kings Landing was not even remotely safe. Lucifer was also inwardly mapping out the layout of the city, so that they could somewhat avoid the pleasure houses, as she was not particularly interested in going anywhere near them. Not when she had a child with them at least.

With the city mapped out inwardly, Lucifer had a smile on her face, as they walked closer to the gates of Kings Landing, and one thought was on her mind.

'Time to enter Kings Landing!'
