The Dukes of Greyreach convened once again.
The report from the Greycloaks had been brought before them, along with the recordings of the previous night's events.
As before, the meeting was held in complete secrecy. No attendants were permitted inside, and no word of their discussion was to leave the room.
This was something that had begun only recently—the exclusion of all staff except the Dukes. Henry Caldwell had suggested it, and the others had agreed.
What Henry did not say was that there was a high chance that many of those staff members were spies. He had already rooted out the rats in his own household. But he hadn't told his fellow Dukes about the spies in theirs. He didn't feel the need to.
Duke Alistair Ashford glanced at one of the illusory screens, his expression dark as he watched the shadowy creature tear through the men of the City Watch.
"Thirteen dead," he muttered. "And not one of them managed to leave a scratch on it."
