Lucas laughed, but he laughed too hard, and too long, to the point when extreme joy begot extreme sorrow.

He didn't see the pain coming, and he sucked in a breath of cold air to the rhythm of his flesh being twisted. It was like the reverse of the medal after the moment of pleasure earlier. He could only attribute it to the inherent darkness of the world, almost feeling take tangible form.

Seeing his appearance, the glare finally receded from the blue eyes dotting the fair face, and their owner let out a snort he managed to hear only because of his ears now better than any bat which had not evolved at least five times, before she turned away and put her head on his chest once again, her soft hand previously enjoyable making him feel phantom pain at the side.
