Though Lucas's tone carried echoes of his smile, Estrella could hear the pride within.
"Against the gravity of the white dwarf? Was that what you were fighting?"
Lucas calmed down and restrained his smile, bringing his thoughts back from the exhilaration at the moment of the restraints of the world snapping to the smooth skin beneath his hands. His breath returned to becoming deep, and his voice rumbled in the ear pressed against his chest:
"Not really, more like against the world."
There was a moment of silence, after which, Estrella took her eyes off the hand holding hers, and continued to question:
"You said before landing that you wanted to adapt, and that is why you became happy from the discovery of the extinct white dwarf. What exactly did you want to adapt to? And to what end? Can you tell me?"
Lucas caught a few strands of long white between the fingers of his left hand to play with, and nodded:
