The only door led to a long, winding hallway that led farther down.
Lucifer strode forward--not to actually rescue Harry from trouble, but to claim the Philosopher's Stone.
Nicolas Flamel was still alive, but who could say whether he'd ever make another Stone? Once Lucifer had seen how the 'Strengthening Potion' worked on Astoria, he understood what she truly lacked---'life force itself'.
And that was exactly what the Philosopher's Stone could provide.
He didn't exactly when Dumbledore will return tomorrow, but Lucifer's eyes fixed on Harry, waiting for the boy to complete the "trial laid" before him, growing his Saviour persona.
But that didn't stop Lucifer from interfering. If he got the Stone, he'd have bargaining power--and a reason to contact 'Flamel'
Truth be told, neither Dumbledore nor Flamel seem to truly care who held the Stone, it was Lucifer's guess, not entirely sure, but so long as it didn't fall into Voldemort's hands.
The gentle dripping of water onto stone could be heard aside from their footsteps.
"Can you hear something?" Ron asked all of a sudden, and then another sound came into range. A soft rustling and clinking was coming from somewhere ahead of them.
"Maybe it's another ghost?" Hermione asked, while being darn near exasperated, this adventure was just ridiculous in her opinion.
"I don't think so... it sounds like wings to me..." Harry said, seeming to recognize the sound.
"Well, light's ahead of us, and....there is also something moving in the next room," Lucifer said, while doing his best to stare at even further, almost crossing human boundaries.
----When they got to room at the end of passageway, they saw a brilliantly lit chamber. The other things they readily saw were hundreds of small, jewel-bright birds flapping and fluttering in the air above them.
On the opposite side of the room was a heavy looking wooden door, "Do you think, they'll attack us if we try to cross the room?" Ron asked.
Lucifer didn't wait for an answer from the other two and casually walked across to the door.
He made it no problem and the other three hurried behind him, "Are you insane?!" Hermione asked him.
"A little," he smirked at her, causing her to frown at him, but it quickly turned to a small smirk of her own.
Harry tried to open the door, and when it didn't budge, Hermione tried the 'UnlockingSpell', but still nothing.
"These birds... they can't just be here for show," Harry said, looking at them. Upon closer inspection, he saw that they weren't birds, "They're keys!"
"What?" Hermione asked, looking up at them.
"Of course, we have to try and catch one for the door I bet," Harry's eyes racked over the knob, hoping to somehow catch the right key as soon as possible.
"But, but how do we know which one to get, there must be hundreds of them," Hermione said, not really wanting to fly.
"We are probably looking for a big old-fashioned one that's probably silver like the door handle," Ron said in his observation.
----Everything annoyed Lucifer's keen hearing now. Especially this challenge, Professor Flitwick's room full of tiny, jewel-like birds, darting everywhere and chirping so loudly, his head throbbed.
With a snarl, he hurled a sphere of light upward. A thick beam of magic swept across the room, from left to right, from floor to ceiling, scouring every inch clean.
The raucous chirping ceased. So did the fluttering. Unfortunately, so did the wall-along with a rack of broomsticks tucked into the corner.
Harry's loud voice exclaimed at those flying old rusty, Comet!
----The two rooms were now one, dimly lit without the shimmering birds to illuminate them.
"Woah...." Ron' was awestruck at the destruction of school property.
"Merl---that's one big ball, Lucifer....!"
When Hermione ran over, she stepped into the space where the second room had been, Chamber burst into bright light, revealing a massive chessboard on the floor. White pieces stood opposite her; black pieces flanked her side.
Much to Ron's not-so-hidden delight.
