Chapter 1 - Book 1 - Prologue

You... it was you all along. Why are you doing this? WHY?!

Shhh— I've warned you. Be careful what you wished for, Isa…

***

I opened my eyes. Ouch, my head is pounding. W— where am I? Ah, right, I'm at home in my bed. Talk about a horrible nightmare: was it because of something I ate? Nah, can't be right. Dreams are not affected by what you eat but by what you've experienced before, or what you crave for.

I rose from my bed as I rubbed my forehead. The bed ain't "fancy" if that's what you're asking as it's just covered with lace along with a thick wooden frame. Nothing to brag about, really. Why do my eyes feel so heavy? I'm certain I had a good night's sleep. Who was I even talking to in my dream? Feels like I'm forgetting something, something rather important, but I can't seem to remember, no matter how hard I try. Sigh, fine, no point racking my head further if I really can't recall what it was; time to start my usual morning routine.

Ahem, you're probably wondering, why does it sound like this guy is talking directly to me? I admit, I'm not normal. I break the fourth wall on a constant basis, and my wife hates it when I do. I know you people are snooping in on my life; better be careful, or I'll end up reading your mind, heh heh. Nah, I'm just messing with you; or at least you better hope that I don't.

Now then, your next question would probably be, what's with the story's title? Didn't a certain "Truck-kun" run you over when you were crossing a road? No, that did not happen, and I can assure you that was certainly not the case. I did not reincarnate here as I have zero memories of my past life. Safe to say that I was born into this world as a baby straight from my mother's womb. Or at least, that was what I've been told.

You see, I know absolutely nothing about my parents. I never had the chance to meet them. They were deep down in the dirt when I was young, perhaps when I was about the age of one, probably two. My grandfather was the one who took care of me throughout my childhood, bringing me up to the ripe old age of 11.

Gosh, listen to me rambling to myself, what a way to start the day. Get going, you fool.

I stood up and finally decided to head into the washroom to freshen up. Opening the door, a gust of warm wind immediately blew against me. Dear Lord, if you are all-hearing, all-seeing and all-knowing, please... make it rain already! What's with the hot, ass weather that's so hot and humid right now?

Seeing that I happened to be rambling about the weather, I guess it would be a good time to explain more about this world. The weather department in this world is always having a ball. Sure, we have summer and winter. But the creator probably thought to himself, "You know what, let's throw in monsoon and thunderstorms too." And these are only on the continent that I decided to settle in. There's a continent that contains hailstorms, burning rainstorms, and acid storms too (which we sometimes call death-storms).

I won't lie, it's certainly a brutal world to live in, but it is the world that I'm born in. While it's not the ideal world that I would have preferred, it's not that bad once you actually come to terms with it. I found happiness in this world, and a family. Beggars can't be choosers, as the saying goes. Should I just kill myself and end it all? Nah, who knows where I might end up in? It could be worse than where I am right now, despite the fact that this world might be heading towards an impending doom.

I headed into the kitchen to brew my favourite rose flower tea. It's not a delicacy in this world, but it's a drink that I found comfort in. I found it to be the best drink for me to calm myself, and it gets me in a relaxed mood to start my day with. What's the point in worrying about 'what ifs' when there's no evidence about it thus far?

As I twirled the liquid in my cup, I began recalling all the memories when this drink was first brought to me. I made sure to have my pinky up as I sipped my tea. Ah, a brilliant drink, innit? Hold up, I ain't even British.

Speaking of British, we don't categorise humans into different races as we have plenty of other species that co-exist with humanity. Indeed, we have dark, fair, yellow, or brown-skinned humans that live among us, but at the end of the day, we are all still humans. What the point in categorising further when we have elves, demons, and lizard people? Sadly, there are no dwarfs or even hobbits around. Now where did I even get such an idea about those species?

As my thoughts continued to ramble on, I headed out to the balcony with my tea and sat on my favourite chair. I spend my time here every morning, contemplating on myself and thinking about all my past journeys that I have been through thus far. And as usual, I hear the soft pattering footsteps headed towards my direction. "Daddy!", she screamed as she ran towards me. Ah, my sweet summer child, my beautiful daughter at the age of ten.

"No need to scream, Daddy is here," I petted her head. What an adorable child I was blessed with. She certainly took most of her mother's beautiful traits and features and I'm certain she'll grow up to be a beauty one day following her mother.

"Dad, I want to hear the story about the Sun," she asked me.

"The Sun?" I thought as I rubbed my unshaven chin.

"Didn't I tell you this story before?" I continued.

"I don't recall much of it, but I want to hear it again!" Her eyes were gleaming with sparkles as she stared directly at me.

It is quite a simple story, honestly speaking. It's about how I came into the world and started my journey. I call it "The Sun" because it was how I rose up to be the man I am today. And how I eventually found "it". A very valuable item that shaped the path of my life.

Truth be told, did I even tell her this story before? Oh, right, I did. I started rambling at her out of the blue one day when she was about the age of five. Why did I even tell her this story in the first place? No wonder she grew bored listening to me after a short while. Surprised she actually remembered about it.

"Are you sure you want to listen to it? I don't recall you being interested before," I clarified with her.

"Which is why I want to hear all about it this time. Promise that I'll pay attention this time, please?" she whimpered.

"Alright, alright. Let me recollect my memories and figure out how to begin," I told her. Guess she just wanted to spend more time with me rather than listening to the actual story. Oh well, I've got time to spare anyway. Doubt the world would just implode on itself anytime soon.

I scratched my head as I figured out how to even start. It is certainly not an easy task to suddenly recall your past and turn it into a proper story. Especially since it's been about five years ago that I started talking about it. Not to mention, I'm already at the age of 35 now. Old but not old enough to forget things, and I can assure you that my story has not ended yet. Take this as an opportunity to learn about my history before I take on the next chapter of my life. There are still a couple of days before my next meeting with the guildmasters, and rumour has it that they have some crazy tasks lined up for me. Guess I should ease y'all in before some batshit crazy things happen.

As I was deep in thoughts, the sound of my wife preparing breakfast could be heard in the kitchen. Oh, I have a great idea. I will not be spoiling who my wife is, and y'all are gonna guess who she is. Pay attention as there will be hints along the way.

"Let us start, shall we?" I asked my daughter as I got ready to head down memory lane. It is gonna be a long story if she wants the whole thing.

My daughter nodded her head with adorable enthusiasm. I pinched her cheek and began my story.

Now, roll the music intro!~

Dang it! I forgot I'm in a novel. Do me a favour and play your favourite Japanese song before proceeding further. Got it? Great. Let's go!
