The frozen battlefield lay silent under the bright stadium lights, a shattered landscape of cracked ice, broken spikes, and swirling frost that still danced in the cold air.
The two Articuno hovered opposite each other, wings trembling with exhaustion, feathers heavily coated in layers of rime and ice. Both legendary birds had poured every ounce of their ancient power into the clash, creating one of the most breathtaking battles the Orange Archipelago had ever witnessed.
Ash's Articuno (♀️) breathed heavily, her brilliant blue-white feathers shimmering despite the frost clinging to them. The Ice Feather accessory around her neck continued to glow faintly, having amplified her Ice-type attacks throughout the grueling fight. Her eyes still burned with that same unyielding determination that had carried her through countless battles alongside Ash.
Lorelei's Articuno was in a similar state regal and majestic, yet visibly drained. Her wings flapped slower now, her breath coming in visible clouds as frost weighed down her beautiful plumage.
The entire stadium held its breath. The silence was almost deafening after the roaring chaos of the battle. Eighty thousand people waited, hearts pounding, for the final verdict.
Ash stood tall on his platform, chest rising and falling as he took a deep breath. His hands were clenched at his sides, but his voice remained steady and filled with quiet pride when he finally spoke.
"Articuno… you've given everything. One last time finish this with all you have left. Blizzard!"
Lorelei, her long red hair whipping gently in the freezing wind, raised her hand with graceful resolve. Her usual elegant composure had returned, though a hint of exhaustion lingered in her eyes.
"Articuno… show them the true power of ice. Full power Blizzard!"
Both legendary birds gathered every last reserve of strength they possessed. Their bodies glowed with intense blue-white light as they flapped their massive wings in perfect unison.
"BLIZZARD!!!"
Two absolute-zero storms collided for the final time.
The explosion was nothing short of legendary.
A blinding dome of pure ice, wind, and raw ancient energy erupted outward from the center of the field.
The shockwave rattled the steel girders and concrete stands so violently that some spectators had to grip their seats. Frost and snow blasted in every direction like a winter apocalypse. The temperature dropped so sharply that visible ice crystals formed on the jumbotron screens and the flags of the referee.
For nearly thirty heart-stopping seconds, the entire battlefield was swallowed by a thick, impenetrable whiteout of ice and mist. The crowd fell into absolute silence, waiting with bated breath.
When the dense mist finally began to slowly clear…
Ash's Articuno was still hovering in the air.
Her wings trembled violently with exhaustion. She was covered in thick frost, breathing hard, clearly at her absolute limit… but she remained airborne, refusing to fall.
Lorelei's Articuno, however, slowly descended. Her wings gave out at the last moment. With a graceful but exhausted cry, she landed heavily on the frozen ground. Her eyes spiraled as she collapsed, unable to continue.
The referee raised his flag high.
"Articuno is unable to battle! Ash Ketchum wins the match!"
The stadium erupted like a volcano.
The roar was deafening eighty thousand voices screaming in unison as confetti cannons fired from the ceiling and fireworks lit up the night sky above Mandarin Island. "ASH! ASH! ASH! CHAMPION!" echoed throughout the arena in a thunderous wave.
Ash stood on his platform for a moment, letting the moment sink in. He had done it. He had defeated his first Elite Four member in a full 6 vs 6 battle. A wide, genuine smile spread across his face as he pumped his fist once in celebration.
Lorelei recalled her fallen Articuno with a long, deep sigh. She closed her eyes for a few seconds, then opened them with a look of calm, graceful acceptance. The frustration she had shown earlier during the battle had completely faded, replaced by quiet respect and admiration.
She walked gracefully toward the center of the field. Ash did the same, meeting her in the middle under the bright lights and the roaring cheers of the crowd.
When they stood face to face, Lorelei offered a small, sincere smile.
"…A wonderful performance, Champion Ash. I have to admit… I didn't expect to be pushed this far. You and your Pokémon fought with true heart and incredible skill. I accept my defeat."
Ash smiled warmly and extended his hand toward her.
"It was an honor battling you, Lorelei. Your Articuno and your battling style are truly beautiful. The way you command ice with such elegance, precision, and power… it was breathtaking to watch. You're an incredible trainer and a worthy Elite Four member."
Lorelei's eyes widened slightly at the sincere compliment. A genuine blush crept across her fair cheeks. She wasn't used to receiving such heartfelt, respectful praise especially not from someone who had just defeated her so decisively in front of thousands. Her heart beat faster than usual, and for a moment, her usual elegant composure faltered.
She gently took his hand, her fingers cool from the lingering ice aura.
"Thank you… That means more than you know."
Ash held her hand for a moment longer, his smile warm and genuine. "By the way… could I have your number? I'd love to talk more about battling sometime and maybe even train together in the future."
Lorelei's blush deepened instantly. Her heart raced wildly in her chest. She quickly looked away for a second, trying to regain her composure, but the sincere warmth in Ash's eyes and the honest tone of his voice made it difficult. A small, flustered smile tugged at her lips.
"…Of course."
She pulled out her Pokégear with slightly trembling fingers and exchanged numbers with him right there on the field. Cameras flashed wildly from every direction as reporters captured the moment for their front-page stories. "Young Champion charms the Ice Elite!" and "Historic defeat turns into warm respect!" were already forming in their minds.
After they finished exchanging numbers, Lorelei composed herself, clearing her throat gracefully.
"So… what is your next destination after this victory?"
Ash scratched the back of his head with a relaxed, boyish smile. "I'll stay in Mandarin Island for a day to rest and let everyone recover. Then we'll continue our journey through the Orange Islands."
Lorelei's lips curved into a bright, genuine smile one that carried real warmth rather than just her usual elegance.
"In that case… why don't you and your entire group stay at my private villa here on the island? It has plenty of space, a beautiful ocean view, excellent training facilities, and a peaceful atmosphere. Consider it my way of properly congratulating the new Kanto League Champion."
Ash's eyes lit up with pleasant surprise. "Really? That sounds perfect. We'd love to accept your invitation."
The crowd cheered even louder at the wholesome interaction, while Misty, Sabrina, Daisy, and Giselle watched from the sidelines with varying expressions Misty pouting cutely with a hint of jealousy, Sabrina smiling softly with quiet approval, Daisy giggling warmly, and Giselle watching with a small, knowing blush on her cheeks.
Lorelei's bright smile remained as she nodded gracefully.
"Then it's settled. I look forward to hosting you and your companions."
The chapter of Ash's first Elite Four victory came to a beautiful and warm close, with the promise of new connections and future adventures waiting ahead.
To be continued…
