Chapter 280 - Chapter 269: Flames of Ascorbia Island

Both lapras and gyrados reached the port of Ascorbia Island under the bright midday sun. After the exciting Gym battle on Trovita Island and the relaxing camp on Cleopatra Island, the entire group was in high spirits and eager to explore the new island.

Ash stretched his arms as he stepped onto the wooden dock, breathing in the fresh sea air mixed with the scent of salt and street food from nearby stalls. "Finally. Some Real local food. I'm starving after all that sailing."

Misty laughed beside him, linking her arm with his as usual. "You're always thinking about your stomach. But I agree I could go for some fresh seafood right now. Maybe grilled Magikarp or a big bowl of seafood ramen."

Sabrina walked gracefully on Ash's other side, her hand lightly brushing against his. "A nice, peaceful meal together sounds wonderful after everything we've been through."

Daisy hummed cheerfully while staying close, occasionally brushing her fingers through Ash's hair. "I wouldn't mind some fruit juice and a good view of the ocean while we eat."

Giselle, still getting used to being openly affectionate, stayed right behind Ash, her hand resting lightly on his back. "As long as I'm with all of you, anything is fine," she said softly, a small blush on her cheeks.

Tracey was already sketching the lively port scene with excitement. "This island looks fantastic! I've heard they have excellent markets and restaurants. The architecture here is unique too."

The group walked together through the busy port, chatting and laughing. The atmosphere was warm and lively, with sailors unloading cargo, vendors calling out their wares, and the sound of Pokémon cries filling the air. Everyone was looking forward to a well-deserved break and a good meal.

However, their plans were suddenly interrupted by loud shouts and the unmistakable smell of smoke.

"Look over there!" Misty pointed urgently. "That warehouse is on fire!"

Thick black smoke billowed into the clear blue sky from a large warehouse near the docks. Bright orange flames licked at the windows and roof, spreading rapidly. Panicked workers were running around, trying to organize buckets of water, but the fire was too intense for normal methods.

Ash's expression turned serious instantly. "We can't just stand by. Let's help!"

Without a second thought, the group sprang into action. Ash released his powerful Blastoise and Shiny Gyarados. Misty sent out her Swampert and Wartortle. Sabrina gracefully released her beautiful Pink Staryu.

"Blastoise, Gyarados help contain the fire!" Ash commanded firmly.

The moment Blastoise materialized, he struck a cool, confident pose and somehow slid on a pair of stylish black sunglasses. The massive Water-type gave a deep, authoritative cry and immediately took charge of the situation like a seasoned commander. He pointed his cannons at key spots and barked orders with powerful roars.

Shiny Gyarados roared loudly and began spraying massive streams of water from his mouth. Swampert slammed its powerful arms into the ground, creating waves of water, while Wartortle spun rapidly, using powerful Water Gun attacks. Pink Staryu spun like a top, using Rapid Spin combined with Water Gun to target smaller flames precisely.

Blastoise stood tall like a general, directing the flow of water with precise cannon blasts. He pointed at a particularly dangerous section of the warehouse where flames were spreading toward stored cargo and gave a sharp command. Shiny Gyarados, Swampert, Wartortle, and Staryu followed his lead perfectly, working in perfect coordination under his leadership.

The sight was impressive. Ash's Blastoise wasn't just fighting the fire he was commanding the entire rescue effort with natural authority.

Just then, a loud whistle blew from the other side of the port. A well-organized squad of Wartortle came running in formation, led by a particularly tough-looking Wartortle wearing a bright yellow bandana around its neck.

The squad leader Wartortle spotted Blastoise commanding the operation and gave a respectful, professional nod of acknowledgment between fellow leaders. Blastoise returned the gesture with a cool thumbs-up, acknowledging the skilled squad.

The Wartortle team immediately joined the effort, working in perfect sync with Ash's Pokémon. Their coordinated water attacks, combined with Blastoise's strategic direction, quickly brought the raging fire under control. Flames were extinguished one section at a time as the two teams worked seamlessly together.

Within minutes, the warehouse fire was completely put out. Smoke still rose from the building, but the danger had passed. The workers cheered loudly, rushing forward to thank Ash and his group along with the local firefighting squad.

Ash patted Blastoise's shell proudly. "Great work, big guy. You really took charge out there."

Blastoise gave a proud grunt and adjusted his sunglasses with one cannon.

Misty smiled warmly at her own Pokémon. "You all did amazing too."

Sabrina's Pink Staryu floated gracefully, clearly satisfied with its contribution. Daisy and Giselle praised their Pokémon as well, creating a heartwarming scene of teamwork and success.

Later that afternoon, after the excitement had died down and the warehouse was secured, a tall, muscular man with a captain's hat approached the group. He had a warm, grateful smile on his face.

"You kids did excellent work back there," he said. "I'm Captain Aidan, leader of Ascorbia Island's Firefighting Pokémon Force. Thank you for jumping in without hesitation."

Ash smiled and shook his hand firmly. "We just did what anyone should do in that situation."

Captain Aidan introduced his impressive team with pride. "We have three specialized squads. Team Squirtle handles tight-space rescues and quick response operations. Team Wartortle is our general-purpose unit versatile and reliable in most situations. And Team Blastoise is reserved for large-scale fires and heavy-duty work."

He gestured proudly to the squads. The Wartortle with the yellow bandana gave Blastoise another respectful nod, clearly impressed by how well Ash's Pokémon had coordinated with them during the crisis.

The girls gathered around Ash, clearly proud of how smoothly everything had gone. Misty leaned against him. "Your Blastoise really knows how to take charge."

Daisy smiled. "It was amazing watching everyone work together like that."

Giselle nodded, her eyes shining with admiration. "You make a great team, Ash."

Tracey was busy sketching the entire scene the firefighters, the Pokémon working in harmony, and the saved warehouse.

Captain Aidan invited them to rest at the local Pokémon Center and offered to treat them to a big meal as thanks for their help. The group happily accepted, their original plan for food finally coming true after the unexpected but successful rescue.

After the heart felt meal Captain Aidan gestured toward a large building visible in the distance. "If you have some time, I'd like to invite you all to visit our Firefighter Academy. It's where we train our Pokémon squads. Your Blastoise could probably teach my teams a thing or two about leadership."

Ash was about to reply when a familiar mechanical voice rang in his mind.

[Ding!]

New Mission: Leadership Training

Mission Details: Have your Blastoise train the leaders of Captain Aidan's firefighting squads and teach them advanced leadership skills during your visit to the academy.

Reward: Aqua Gem (A powerful held item that significantly boosts Water-type move power and slightly increases Special Defense.)

Ash mentally accepted the mission with a small smile. "We'd love to visit the academy, Captain. My Blastoise would be happy to share what he knows."

Captain Aidan's face lit up. "Excellent! Follow me."

The group followed Captain Aidan through the lively streets of Ascorbia Island toward the Firefighter Academy. The academy was a spacious facility with multiple training grounds, obstacle courses, and simulation rooms designed to prepare Pokémon for real emergencies. Several squads of Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise were already training under the watchful eyes of their handlers.

Once inside the main training field, Ash turned to Captain Aidan. "Captain, would you mind if my Blastoise takes the lead in teaching your squad leaders some advanced leadership techniques?"

Captain Aidan nodded enthusiastically. "I'd be honored. My teams can always learn from a strong Pokémon like yours."

Ash released Blastoise again. The massive Water-type struck his signature cool pose, sliding his black sunglasses into place with one cannon. He gave a deep, commanding roar and began demonstrating leadership skills to the gathered squad leaders.

Blastoise moved with authority, directing the Wartortle squad through coordinated water attacks, showing them how to prioritize targets, maintain formation under pressure, and communicate effectively during a crisis. He demonstrated strategic positioning, timing cannon blasts for maximum efficiency, and even how to encourage younger Pokémon during tough situations.

The squad leaders watched in awe. The Wartortle with the yellow bandana nodded repeatedly, clearly impressed by Blastoise's natural command style. Blastoise gave him a thumbs-up and motioned for him to try leading a small drill. The yellow-bandana Wartortle stepped up confidently and successfully directed his team through a simulated rescue exercise.

Ash watched with pride. "He's a natural teacher."

Misty leaned against Ash's side. "Your Blastoise is really something else."

Daisy smiled warmly. "The way he commands respect without even trying… it's inspiring."

Giselle nodded, her eyes shining. "I want Salamence to learn from him too someday."

Sabrina observed quietly. "Leadership like that comes from experience and trust. Blastoise has both."

Tracey was sketching furiously. "This is amazing material for my Watcher notes!"

The training session continued for nearly an hour. Blastoise demonstrated advanced techniques, corrected mistakes gently but firmly, and even showed the squads how to stay calm under pressure. The local Pokémon visibly improved, gaining confidence and better coordination.

Just as the session was wrapping up, Captain Aidan's radio crackled with an urgent call.

"Captain! There's a major apartment fire in the residential district! A child is trapped on the third floor!"

Captain Aidan's expression turned grave. "We need to move now!"

Ash's Blastoise stepped forward and gave an encouraging roar to the Wartortle squad, motioning for them to take the lead. He then reached into a small pouch Ash carried and pulled out a spare pair of cool sunglasses, placing them on the yellow-bandana Wartortle's head.

The squad leader looked surprised but proud. With renewed determination, the Wartortle squad rushed toward the apartment building, moving with the leadership skills they had just learned.

Ash and his group followed quickly. When they arrived, flames were raging on multiple floors. The yellow-bandana Wartortle took charge exactly as Blastoise had taught assigning roles, maintaining formation, and directing precise water attacks while searching for the trapped child.

The squad worked flawlessly. They cleared a path through the smoke and flames, and the leader Wartortle bravely entered the burning apartment. Using the teamwork and calm decision-making Blastoise had demonstrated, he located the frightened child and carried them safely out of the building just as the ceiling began to collapse.

The crowd that had gathered erupted into cheers and applause. People rushed forward to thank the Wartortle squad and its leader. The yellow-bandana Wartortle stood tall, saluting Ash's Blastoise from across the street with deep respect.

Blastoise returned the salute with a proud nod, still wearing his sunglasses like a true commander.

Captain Aidan wiped tears from his eyes. "I've never seen my teams work so well together. Thank you, Ash. Your Blastoise is truly an inspiration."

Ash smiled and patted Blastoise's shell. "He's the best."

The girls gathered around Ash, proud of both him and his Pokémon. Misty hugged his arm. "You and your team keep saving the day."

As the sun began to set over Ascorbia Island, the group felt a deep sense of accomplishment. Another emergency handled, new friendships formed, and valuable lessons shared.

The Orange Islands adventure continued, with more challenges and meaningful moments waiting ahead.
