After curing Ubuyashiki, I decided to pay Tanjiro a visit. It wasn't just a casual check-in—I'd been thinking about Nezuko. If I was feeling particularly generous today, why not extend the gift of healing to her? Accompanying me on this trip was Yuki, my loyal companion, while Shalltear and Lupus were still back in Nazarick handling other matters.
The Butterfly Mansion was lively as always, with slayers coming and going, carrying out their duties with admirable determination. The air buzzed with the faint hum of activity, and I found myself enjoying the energy of the place. It was a nice change of pace from the silent, imposing halls of Nazarick.
As Yuki and I strolled down one of the mansion's corridors, I caught sight of Aoi Kanzaki up ahead. She was standing near the entrance to one of the smaller courtyards, her arms full of medical supplies. When she noticed me approaching, her cheeks suddenly flushed a deep red, and she quickly looked away, fumbling with the bandages in her hands.
I raised an eyebrow, glancing at Yuki, who merely gave me a curious look in return. What's this about?
I quickened my pace, stopping a few steps away from Aoi. "Aoi," I said, my tone casual, "you alright? You're looking a bit... overheated."
She shook her head quickly, her blush deepening. "I'm fine, Alex-sama! Just surprised to see you, that's all."
Yuki glanced at Aoi, then at me, her own cheeks tinged with a faint pink. The atmosphere between us grew slightly awkward, and I could feel Aoi trying to avoid direct eye contact.
Curiosity got the better of me. I stopped in my tracks and turned to face Aoi directly. "You're acting strange, Aoi. Care to share what's on your mind?" My tone was playful, but there was genuine curiosity behind my words.
Aoi hesitated, her eyes darting nervously between me and Yuki. Finally, she took a deep breath and muttered something under her breath that was too quiet to catch.
"Come on, now," I said, leaning slightly closer. "Don't leave me hanging. What did you say?"
Her blush intensified, and she stammered, "I... I said that I could hear things at night! From your room!"
My eyes narrowed in confusion. "Things? What kind of things?"
Aoi's face turned crimson, and she blurted out, "M-Moaning! I could hear the moaning of your companions all night!"
For a moment, there was complete silence. Yuki, who had been standing beside me, froze in place. Her previously faint blush turned into a full-fledged rosy hue that spread across her cheeks. Unlike Shalltear or Lupus, who were bold and shameless in their actions, Yuki was far more reserved. Hearing this declaration seemed to fluster her more than it did me.
Realization dawned on me, and I couldn't help but chuckle. "Oh? Is that so?" I said, smirking as I straightened up. "I had no idea we were being so loud. My apologies, Aoi."
Aoi's eyes widened at my casual response. "You're not even denying it!" she exclaimed, looking both mortified and exasperated.
"Why would I?" I teased, enjoying the way she squirmed under my gaze. "If that's what you heard, who am I to argue? Though I must say, I'm surprised you were listening so intently."
"I wasn't listening on purpose!" Aoi shot back, her voice cracking slightly from embarrassment. "It was impossible not to hear it! The walls aren't that thick, you know!"
By this point, Yuki had turned her face away, clearly trying to compose herself. She wasn't as thick-skinned as Shalltear or Lupus—or me, for that matter. Still, her reaction was enough to pique my amusement even further.
I turned to Yuki, grinning. "What do you think, Yuki? Should we try to keep it down next time, or just let Aoi enjoy the show?"
"Alex-sama!" Yuki hissed, her voice barely above a whisper. Her blush had reached the tips of her ears, and she looked like she wanted to disappear on the spot. "That's not funny!"
Aoi, still red-faced, looked between us and muttered, "I can't believe you're joking about this..."
I shrugged, unable to resist one last playful jab. "Life's too short to take things too seriously, Aoi. But don't worry—I'll try to be more mindful in the future. And, well, if you ever feel like it, you're welcome to join us anytime you want."
I swear on all things holy that statement was purely meant as teasing. I wasn't actually hoping for anything. It was just a way to get one last rise out of her and lighten the mood further.
But to my utter shock, Aoi's already crimson face somehow turned an even deeper shade of red. She froze for a moment, her tray trembling slightly in her hands, before stammering, "I-I'll think about it!"
With that, she spun on her heel and bolted, her footsteps echoing down the hallway as she fled the scene.
I stood there in stunned silence, blinking a few times as her words registered. "Huh," I muttered, scratching the back of my head. "Didn't see that coming."
Then I quickly open her character page.
