Renner and Clementine followed beside me as we moved through the halls of Nazarick. The silence between them was thick—Clementine clearly still amused, while Renner was overwhelmed in the most controlled way possible. Her golden eyes moved constantly, scanning every detail with clinical interest, trying to digest what Nazarick truly was.
Albedo led the way, walking with elegant grace, her wings trailing behind her like a queen's train. She explained as she walked, speaking with the pride of someone who believed in every inch of stone around her.
"This is the Hall of Warriors," she said as we passed a towering chamber lined with statues. Each one depicted a Guardian or warrior of Nazarick, perfectly sculpted and enchanted to radiate their respective auras. "These were created to honor those who protect Lord Alex's domain."
"Each one of those statues feels like it's watching," Clementine muttered, her usual confidence a little dulled.
Renner said nothing but stopped briefly before a statue of Cocytus, her fingers twitching at her side. "This one… I've never felt a presence like that. Even from statues."
"That's because it's not just a statue," I said. "Some of them are alive. Or half-alive. Don't worry, they know not to move unless I order it."
Her throat bobbed as she swallowed, but she kept walking. There was no visible fear on her face—only deeper curiosity.
We visited the Library of Nazarick next, where thousands of floating tomes orbited a crystalline obelisk in the center. Albedo offered her the chance to glance at one, but Renner wisely declined, aware that even a word read aloud without permission could have consequences.
Then came the golden castle on the 9th floor, which Albedo opened at my command just enough for them to see. The golden light spilt out like a sunrise made of wealth—vaults stacked to the ceiling with relics, weapons, scrolls, and treasures from worlds beyond their understanding.
All low tier, of course. Since it is not Treasury. Golden castle is only for show. But that was enough for both of them.
Clementine actually let out a low whistle. "And here I thought the royal vault back home was impressive."
Renner, for the first time, lost her composure just slightly. Her hand gripped her skirt, her body still, her eyes drinking it in like someone who'd spent their whole life chasing the illusion of control—only to see what true supremacy looked like.
It was enough.
"Let's eat," I said, and Albedo nodded.
Moments later, we entered one of the grand dining halls, already prepared as Albedo had promised. A table of polished black marble stretched down the length of the room, lined with chairs carved in designs both regal and monstrous. Candles floated above, casting a soft golden hue over a feast already laid out—roasted meats, exotic fruits, and dishes from multiple worlds.
Clementine didn't hesitate to sit and begin eating. "Finally, something normal," she said with a grin, biting into a leg of meat with little ceremony.
Renner took her seat more gracefully, though her eyes never stopped flicking between the staff who served us and the decor. Every server was a homunculus maid, their movements inhumanly perfect, their faces calm but hollow. They worked in complete silence.
Albedo stood behind me rather than sitting, her arms folded neatly in front of her.
"I hope the meal is to your satisfaction," she said with a small smile.
"It is," I replied. "Thank you, Albedo. You've outdone yourself."
She beamed at the praise, wings fluttering slightly.
Renner finally leaned back in her chair, holding a wine glass between her fingers. Her tone was quiet, thoughtful.
"All of this... It's not just power. It's order. Discipline. Worship."
I nodded. "Nazarick is a kingdom unlike anything your world could ever produce."
Renner looked at me again. This time, there was no seduction in her gaze. Only awe—and the slightest tremor of ambition.
"I want to see more."
"Good," I said, lifting my own glass. "Because this is just the beginning."
