As little Sebastian watched his brother leave their hiding place which was a forest afar of behind their home, he felt his little heart thump rapidly.
He hoped his parents were fine and also hoped his brother would be back in one piece.
He turned to his little sister who looked more terrified than he was. Seeing her like that made him regret his existence.
They were never meant to be born.
It was a forbidden union; defying God's natural order.
"If only we were a different kind, the humans would not desire to kill us. We're a mistake" Little Sebastian said, his heart brimming with regret, anger and pain.
"Mahalalel" Little Sebastian heard his sister call out to him.
"Yes?" He looked at the tear-filled eyes of his sister.
"Do you think this would end soon?" Esther asked, staring at her brother. Her blue eyes, ever so pure and innocent.
She was so delicate and strikingly beautiful even at age five.
"I have no idea. But I hope it would. I hope we would see mama and papa soon." Little Sebastian tried to coax his sister. He looked up at Ezekiel's figure which was moving closer to their home and he hoped for the best.
Ezekiel had finally reached his family's home but he stood at the backyard momentarily, trying to avoid being seen before walking in and hiding behind a door.
His home had become something else, a place of chaos.
The mob had successfully burned down their gate and captured both of his parents. Both his father and mother were bound with thick ropes as the human mob interrogated them.
"Where did you hide those gremlins you call your children? Where are they?" One of the men among the mob who seemed like the leader asked. He had a scar on his face, a mark to distinguish his family line for he was a noble.
Ezekiel who was still hiding behind a door watched. His parents gave no answer to the man and they pierced a dagger deep into his mother's shoulder.
She yelled in absolute agony but still didn't give the man an answer.
"You enjoy seeing your wife go through this? Tell us where your offsprings are or we would keep on hurting that beautiful face of hers!" The man yelled.
Ezekiel saw his father give his mother a certain look and he knew they had spoken to each other in their minds.
"If you think killing an innocent man and his wife would bring peace to Denverion then by all means, do the worst you can" Ezekiel heard his mother say. She spat on the feet of the scarred man and the mob went wild, demanding that she should be murdered.
The living room was cramped up with humans who wanted the entire family dead.
Another man plunged a dagger to Ezekiel's father's upper back. But the wound began to heal seconds later. His wife's wound was already healed this time.
A woman pointed at the closing wound on Samaiel Zennor's back "The wounds are covering up! These witches are very powerful, we have to end them another way. Daggers and whips wouldn't work!" She shouted and the mob agreed with her.
Unable to bear the sight of his parents in such a dire state, Ezekiel screamed "No!".
All heads turned to his direction including his parent's.
"Zeke run!" Ezekiel heard his father scream at him but it was too late.
His little legs couldn't carry him far before he was grabbed by a masked man who also looked like a nobleman in the society.
"We have one now. Where are the rest?" The leader of the mob asked Samaiel.
Ezekiel wriggled in the man's arms, in attempt to free himself.
His mother, Michal looked at him in pain. She spoke into his mind, an ability that runs in the family "I told you to hide! Why did you come back?. Are your siblings safe?".
Hearing his mother's voice in his head, Ezekiel replied in the same manner "I'm sorry mother. We were worried about you and father which is why I came. Mahalalel and Esther are safe".
"Papa, use your powers. We can free ourselves, why let them hurt you this much?" Ezekiel spoke to his father's mind.
"Remember our promise Ezekiel. If we use our powers on them it would make us seem we are bad ones. We don't hurt humans Zeke." Samaiel responded in the same manner Ezekiel spoke to him.
"But you need to defend yourself! That is different papa!" Ezekiel said out loud this time.
"What was that?".
"What are they speaking about?". Persons in the crowd asked.
"They want to use their powers on us. You heard the child, kill them now. We'd search for the other gremlins later, they shouldn't be so far!" A man said and the mob yelled, concurring to his point.
They tied Ezekiel up and when his mother couldn't take the pain of watching her son being tied up like a criminal anymore, she shouted "Please, please let my son go. We would do anything for you, don't kill him. I beg of thee!".
The next thing Michal felt was a kick to her face. "Shut that pretty mouth of yours. You would not bewitch humans with your beautiful face anymore once you're dead. When this is over, Denverion would finally be in peace!" The leader spoke and they all hailed in excitement.
Samaiel turned to his wife, his eyes following the blood that escaped her lips due to the impact of the kick on her face. Though he knew she'd heal, it broke something in him. He turned to his son who was also tied up and was now gagged and he snapped.
He groaned as he ripped the rope he was tied with. The people stared in bewilderment for some seconds before pouncing on him.
They stabbed Samaiel in several parts of his body but he kept on regenerating. Michal looked on in pain, she knew her husband's body had a limit. They had both given up their immortality a long time ago so she knew he could die.
But Samaiel was powerful, despite not being immortal.
He fought the humans with sheer strength, not using his supernatural abilities on any of them, despite having them.
He ripped the limbs of whoever he got in his grasp. But unfortunately, the numbers were against him.
