Kairos didn't answer right away. He stopped only when we were far enough that the clearing was completely out of sight. Then he looked down at our joined hands. Slowly—deliberately—he loosened his grip, though he didn't let go immediately.
"I could ask you the same thing," he replied quietly.
I looked away, unable to hide the storm of emotions swirling inside me. "You don't need to know about that. I was about to leave anyway when you suddenly showed up." Then a thought struck me, and I turned back to him. "Wait… how are you here anyway?"
His usual smirk crept onto his face, lazy and infuriatingly confident. "Oh, I was just hunting some monsters when I mistook you for a pervert peeking at something."
For a heartbeat, the ache in my chest evaporated, replaced by pure irritation. "I'm not! I just suddenly got there!" I protested, bristling.
"Excuses," he said lightly.
"No I'm no—give that back!" I yelped when I realized he had somehow gotten hold of my Arcanum necklace.
