"Alright, don't be so down—you've done very well. It's just that you all stand at different heights, so you see different things; you only know more because of that."
Seeing Bronie looking so dejected, Daniel Davis smiled and offered her some comforting words.
Neither Rita, nor Hulang, nor Fuhua are fools. They wouldn't impulsively decide to shut down the light curtain as Bronie did. They reached their decision only after many discussions and careful research.
The light curtain was gradually shrinking. Although the rate of contraction was small, it would eventually reach its limit. An ordinary person might think there was still plenty of time before destruction, so there was no need to rush. But for a smart and confident person, rather than leaving everything for future generations to solve, why not resolve it now? Even if everything outside turned out to be monsters, one must fight to know the outcome.
"Now that you've achieved your goal, while there's still time, you should go out and take a good look. Once you leave here, you may not be able to return for a while—though familiar faces aren't impossible to find, it will be very difficult to come back in a short time."
"Hmph, I'll remember this grudge," Bronie muttered.
Despite her disappointment with what lay beyond Tianqiu City, now that the light curtain had been opened, Bronie still wanted to see what was out there. With that, she mounted her beloved blue motorcycle and sped off outside.
Meanwhile, many of Tianqiu City's residents, driven by curiosity and apprehension, began to head toward the outside world. However, they were quickly stopped by mechs. Although some looked displeased and wanted to make a fuss, facing the mechs they could only stand there, unwillingly detained.
"Cunxin Six Forms, Cunjin Opens the Heavens."
At a vast underground training base in Tianqiu City, with a sharp command, a training mech exploded with a tremendous roar, its fragments scattering within roughly a ten-meter radius.
"It's a pity that Fuhua in this world doesn't have the Taixu Sword Qi…"
Watching the training mech shatter by her own hand, Daniel Davis sighed softly. After the light curtain was shut down, a wave of exploration toward the outside swept over Tianqiu City. But for Daniel Davis, there was nothing worth exploring out there—instead, he directly sought out Fuhua for a bout of sparring.
Using the Navy Six Forms and Three-Color Haki, he exchanged techniques with Fuhua—trading her Cunxin Six Forms for his Navy Six Forms. In terms of value, the Navy Six Forms was already more than enough to exchange for the Cunxin Six Forms. But since the other party was Fuhua, there was no need to fuss over minor details.
That exchange made Daniel Davis clearly understand Fuhua's strength, and why she alone could make Taixu Men one of the three major forces in Tianqiu City. Her power far exceeded his, yet within Tianqiu City she was undeniably the best—dismantling mechs as if it were child's play. In many worlds that Daniel Davis had experienced, few could accomplish what she did.
In Tianqiu City, the number of people capable of using Honkai energy was very few. In this world, technological might reigned supreme. For instance, when Yaoye Xia first appeared, his strength was mistaken by Theresa and Bronie for merely an ability granted by his armored body or prosthetic limbs.
After exchanging martial insights with Fuhua, Daniel Davis also began to grasp the nature of Honkai energy. In other worlds, Honkai energy might be equivalent to true qi or natural energy—but with significant differences. One major difference was that Honkai energy's corrosive effect was extremely potent.
If one was not qualified, attempting to use Honkai energy was tantamount to courting death—either succumbing to the Honkai disease or turning into a mindless soldier.
Only those who could resist the corrosive invasion of Honkai energy might use it as if it were true qi.
Observing the sparring between himself and Fuhua, Bronie finally realized that the reason Raven was able to take her out of Taixu Men back then was entirely because Fuhua had gone easy on her. Otherwise, the price for Raven would have been far more than just a broken hand—that was a fist capable of shattering a mech.
Raven's strength might be formidable in the underground mercenary circles, but compared to Fuhua, she was utterly unmatched.
Boom, boom, boom.
After Daniel Davis finished his trial, another explosion resounded from a distance. That was Bronie testing the effectiveness of the missiles she could materialize.
Even as Daniel Davis continued his training, he did not forget about Bronie. He urged her to strengthen her abilities. It was impossible for her to master Fuhua's Cunxin Six Forms overnight, so she could only enhance her power as the Ruler of Reason.
This underground training base had been provided by Rita—it originally belonged to Snake Eyes and was primarily used for testing various mechs. As a result, its space was extremely vast.
"I tell you, have you finished over there? If I'd known, I should have traded with the ninjas instead," Bronie called over after her test, hurrying to prompt Daniel Davis to wrap things up. With the communication space established, the martial exchange with Fuhua completed, and further research on the local technology pending, Daniel Davis had already been in Tianqiu City for some time, which was testing Bronie's patience.
"You're really an impatient one. Alright, fine. You've stayed here too long. I'll give you one more day. The day after tomorrow, we depart. Tomorrow, say proper goodbyes," Daniel Davis said.
"Really? That's great!" Bronie exclaimed, waving excitedly before suddenly remembering something and dashing out of the underground base.
"Is Daniel Davis about to leave?" Rita asked as she approached with some pastries, acting every bit the maid despite being the illustrious leader of Snake Eyes.
"Indeed, but it seems you won't be able to leave just yet."
During his time in Tianqiu City, Daniel Davis had come to understand one thing: the everyday order of Tianqiu City was maintained entirely by Rita of Snake Eyes. Hulang and Fuhua were of no use in managing the city—Fuhua had clearly dedicated all her talents to martial prowess, while Hulang had focused on technology.
Now that the light curtain had just been shut down, Tianqiu City was in a state of ruin waiting to be rebuilt. Rita simply couldn't leave at this time unless she didn't care what became of Tianqiu City.
Of the three major forces, both Rita and Fuhua were deeply concerned about the state of Tianqiu City. Only Hulang, though not entirely indifferent, was far more interested in venturing into the Quantum Sea or even other worlds. He had even declared his willingness to leave—though Rita promptly stopped him.
"Don't worry, I'll be back. And if you ever want to leave, it won't be a problem," Rita assured.
"Then I'll wait for your return, my lord," Hulang replied.
"Take care of Bronie for me," Raven said.
Inside Raven's Nest, upon learning that Bronie was finally about to leave, Raven found Daniel Davis.
"Don't talk as if we'll never see each other again. It's not like I won't come back. Rest assured, I'll bring her back when the time comes."
If possible, he even hoped to witness a meeting between the two Ravens—and of course, between the two Theresas.
"As I suspected," Daniel Davis murmured.
Returning once again to the Quantum Sea, a small smile crept onto Daniel Davis's lips. This time, instead of using Pym Particles, he had entered directly via the Secret Arcane Gate.
Now that his soul level had reached demigod status, his mastery of Kamatéiji's magic had further advanced. In addition, in this world, which was under the constant shadow of Honkai—in simple terms, under the Honkai universe—many matters became simpler.
It was akin to being able to effortlessly traverse to other parallel worlds in the Marvel universe—just as the ancient mages of Kamatéiji once did.
For mages of Kamatéiji, exploring parallel worlds was not a difficult task. They weren't the only ones who could venture into parallel worlds, but whether one could return alive was an entirely different matter. Daniel Davis was well aware of the dangers lurking in Marvel's parallel worlds.
There were countless worlds capable of destroying an entire planet or even a universe—worlds of Black Doctor Strange, Infinite Ultron, zombie viruses, and so on. Even without these perils, the X-Men's realm was dangerous enough; those lacking sufficient power could easily perish in other worlds. Not everyone was as cautious as he was.
"This is the Quantum Sea… and there's nothing here," Bronie remarked excitedly upon her first arrival in the Quantum Sea.
"Didn't I tell you before? Now, hurry along. I hope nothing troublesome occurs," Daniel Davis urged.
For him, the monsters in the Quantum Sea—namely, the Quantum Shadows—were no trouble unless they appeared on a massive scale. However, someone who had been sealed within the Quantum Sea for over fifteen hundred years was a different matter.
"Nothing at all…," another voice mused in a small world bubble. Looking at the barren mountains, Bronie's excitement had long since faded.
"You've lost hope already? There are only a few world bubbles here," Daniel Davis commented.
How many world bubbles existed within the Quantum Sea was anyone's guess. Daniel Davis and Bronie had entered several world bubbles along the way, but they were all small and lifeless. In fact, within the Quantum Sea, that was normal—world bubbles as grand as Tianqiu City were exceedingly rare.
"This is St. Freya Academy."
Upon entering another world bubble, Daniel Davis and Bronie found themselves directly before the grand gates of an opulent academy. Daniel Davis was the first to notice the academy's name.
"Bronie, Bronie—did you come looking for Xier?"
While Daniel Davis and Bronie were surveying the surroundings, a voice filled with joyous surprise suddenly rang out. A blue figure then leaped onto Bronie.
"Who are you?"
Although the unfamiliar figure was an extraordinarily beautiful girl, Bronie, being a girl herself, wasn't fazed. She immediately pushed the newcomer away.
"Xier—who would have thought I'd run into you? My luck is really something," the girl said, and her self-introduction instantly made Daniel Davis think of who she was. He was well aware of Xier's affairs in the Quantum Sea. However, given the vastness of the Quantum Sea and the uncertainty of whether she had already left it, Daniel Davis didn't dwell on it further.
"Bronie, don't you recognize Xier?"
The newcomer's actions clearly hurt Xier deeply. Tears began streaming down her delicate face. It was hardly surprising; after all, she had longed to see her beloved sister for so long, only to have the other party seem to forget her. Xier herself was exceedingly kind—otherwise, under another voice in her mind, she might have turned bitter on the spot.
That other voice in Xier's mind was none other than Black Xier. Upon seeing that Bronie appeared not to recognize her, Black Xier furiously threatened to swap bodies with Xier to teach Bronie a lesson.
"Xier, it isn't that she doesn't recognize you—she's just not your Bronie sister. You should know about the existence of world bubbles. This one is from another world—the heretofore Bronie, whose name is Bronie," Daniel Davis explained.
Once, Bronie's name was indeed Bronie, but she apparently didn't care for it and changed it to Bronie. Except for Raven, even Theresa always called her Bronie.
"Another world's Bronie, huh…"
After Daniel Davis's explanation, the tears at the corner of Xier's eyes finally stopped. She looked at Daniel Davis and Bronie with puzzled eyes.
"I'm not called Bronie—I'm called Bronie."
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry—I'm Xier."
Xier then introduced herself.
"You fool, Xier, didn't you hear what he said earlier? He already knows who you are. Be careful; he likely means you no good," Black Xier's voice echoed in Xier's mind.
"Do you want to leave the Quantum Sea and meet your Bronie sister?" Daniel Davis then said with a smile to Xier. Since he had met her, he wouldn't let her remain in the Quantum Sea any longer.
"Really?"
Upon hearing that she could meet Bronie, Xier exclaimed in delight. But at that moment, the surrounding scenery began to fade, and soon everything vanished. The three of them reappeared within the Quantum Sea. Not far off, a long, sprawling black snake shadow was watching them.
"Watch out—it's a snake," Xier warned in a voice that, although it belonged to her, carried a completely different tone.
"So Black Xier has emerged," Daniel Davis noted as he saw Xier's eyes change from sea-blue to red. He immediately recognized who she was.
"Don't worry—I know who that is," Daniel Davis said as he produced the Yanluo Mirror Tome. Pointing at the enormous snake shadow, he spoke, "Kevin, I know you're here. Come out and meet me."
Since the disappearance of the previous world bubble, Daniel Davis had suspected that it had been artificially created—a dreamlike world bubble. In the Quantum Sea, only two people possessed the ability to create world bubbles: Kevin and Walter. Xier was not one of them.
And upon seeing the black snake shadow, it could only be Kevin—the leader of the World Serpent. This fusion warrior from the pre-civilizational era was one of the pioneers bearing the Savior's Seal.
"Who are you?"
Moments later, a figure emerged from the distant Quantum Sea. Lifting his head, his white, short hair revealed that he was none other than Kevin Caslanna. When he appeared, his gaze did not even linger on Bronie or Xier.
"A traveler. I intend to take her away. I suppose you won't stop me?"
Daniel Davis said, motioning for Bronie and Xier to hide behind him. At the same time, he thought, "Kevin has appeared, but not Walter. It seems Walter hasn't arrived in the Quantum Sea yet."
For the sake of saving humanity—if Walter were in the Quantum Sea, he would certainly have shown up by now.
"Her body has suffered severe erosion from the Quantum Sea. Are you sure you want to take her away?"
"Rest assured—I can handle that problem."
Not to mention, Xier herself was capable of shattering the Quantum Sea with seven punches; her body bore a sacred mark that granted her strong adaptability to the Quantum Sea. Even if that were not enough, he had methods to resolve the issue. In fact, the situation of the Ghost Assassin had some similarities with Xier's.
