Chapter 397 - Chapter 396 - Headless.

A bizarre creature emerged from the lake. It was a snake, or perhaps an eel. A monster covered in green scales all over its body, with large fins along its sides. Its head was even thicker than the rest of its body.

Its eyes were bulging and green like its scales, and its mouth was enormous, filled with sharp teeth over a foot long each.

"This thing looks stronger than that lizard," I said.

[Don't worry. Despite its intimidating appearance, I'm sure it'll be easy to kill.]

I trusted the dragon and pointed my sword at the snake.

It was over five meters tall, and its body wasn't entirely out of the water.

'How should I do this?' I thought.

Should I just try to cut this thing down, or should I use magic?

However, the snake didn't give me much time to think about it. It let out a roar as loud as a dragon's and then charged toward me. It moved very fast, but I could easily follow it with my eyes.

I teleported to the other side of the lake, and the snake slammed into the ground, cracking the earth.

"That was stronger than I expected."

The snake then turned and came at me again. It began moving exactly like a real snake would. With a smile on my face, I keep teleporting around, forcing the snake to dart wildly back and forth.

It splashed water everywhere and destroyed many trees and patches of ground in the process.

It was fun running from it.

As time passed, it grew more and more irritated.

"Alright, enough playing around."

I pointed my hand at the snake and launched a fireball toward it. It was a concentrated fireball packed with a huge amount of magic. The fireball shot forward at high speed and struck the snake directly in the face.

It had been charging toward me, but its trajectory shifted after the impact.

The snake opened its mouth and roared as its face caught fire. Its scales were torn away, and its flesh began to cook beneath the flames. The attack was extremely effective, which surprised me.

Even after diving into the water to extinguish the flames, the snake still appeared to be in tremendous pain.

Despite the attack hitting its face, only one of its eyes was blinded.

Its remaining green eye stared at me, and I smiled.

"Come on, bring it on. I'm going to rip your head off."

The snake opened its mouth and rushed at me at full speed. Since it couldn't use magic, this was its only way of attacking.

"That won't work," I said before teleporting above the snake's head.

Then I drove my sword into the back of its head and sat on top of it.

The snake began thrashing wildly, trying to throw me off, but I gripped my sword firmly and remained mounted on it. It was as if I were treating it like a horse.

Then the snake dove into the water.

I didn't let go, and it carried me to the bottom of the lake.

It was dark, but I could see incredibly well.

'There's nothing here...' I thought.

Then the snake rose again, leaping out of the water. This time, I pulled my sword from its body and jumped away. While still in the air, the snake tried to bite me, but I used fire magic to strike it, causing it to retreat once more.

"Even though I stabbed the back of its head, it didn't die. It'll probably only die if I tear its head off or destroy it from the inside out."

Well, that would be easy.

I'd had enough fun already.

POV: Third Person

With a serious expression, Luan stared at the wounded snake. The creature's single remaining eye was fixed directly on him. It was visibly enraged, but it was also afraid. It had never faced an enemy this powerful before.

Even though it was an almost mindless monster, the snake still possessed a small degree of awareness. It knew that if it did nothing, it would die.

So the snake carefully analyzed its surroundings. It needed to use something in the environment to hinder Luan.

However, it couldn't think of anything. It simply wasn't intelligent enough.

Its only chance of escape was to hide at the bottom of the lake, but it had no intention of running away.

Luan smiled.

"You look scared," he said while staring at the snake.

Feeling provoked, the snake flicked out its tongue and bared its fangs.

Luan laughed.

"Alright, this will be quick. Watch your neck... Wait, do snakes even have necks?"

After making that completely unfunny joke, Luan vanished from the snake's sight.

The snake looked around, searching for him, but it couldn't find him.

His presence had disappeared completely.

Then, suddenly, the snake felt an excruciating pain in the back of its neck. Luan had plunged his sword into the creature and was cutting through it with ease. Its scales had become as soft as butter.

A deep, long gash appeared. The snake began bleeding profusely, and the lake water gradually turned red.

Realizing it couldn't do anything to stop him, the snake dove back into the water, but its consciousness was already beginning to fade. The wound Luan had carved into its "neck" was bleeding heavily, and the cut continued to widen over time.

However, because the snake possessed above-average regeneration, it chose to hide. Perhaps its wounds would heal if it did, despite how severe they were.

But Luan wasn't about to let the snake escape.

He teleported directly underwater.

Despite being submerged, he could move normally.

Luan hadn't known he was capable of doing that, so it surprised him.

Then he swung his sword again, creating another slash near the first one.

The snake tried to bite him, moving even faster underwater, but Luan used his teleportation ability to avoid every attack.

Over time, the snake's head gradually separated from its body, and the red stain spreading through the water grew larger.

When the snake's head finally detached completely, Luan placed his hand on it and teleported himself and the severed head out of the water.

"Wow, it's really huge."
