Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 - Fear.

Herbert Medical and Technology.

It was 10 PM, and Blaze was in his office, his eyes fixed on the computer screen. He was working late that night because he had crucial matters to handle before they slipped away. His assistant "Boss" knocked on the door and entered. In addition to his tasks, Blaze remained silent. "Your doubts were correct," he continued, "He'll be boarding at 10 PM."

Having working under his boss for 18 years now. He realized his boss had listened to his words and was addressing the matter. Turning off the computer, Blaze stood up and exited the office. Arthur trailed behind

Baldwin's Mansion

Upon entering the Mansion, Blaze sensed an unusual emptiness; something was missing, and later he realized it was Savannah, she wasn't present as she usually was on the days he returned from work, where she would be the first person he encountered, which always brought him joy.

Today, though, it was empty, which made him realize how her absence impacts him at this moment, so he continued onward and ascended to the third floor, while Arthur, who was with him, also sensed the unwarranted feeling but brushed it off and proceeded down the left corridor leading deeper inside.

He strolled down the vast hallway that led to both Blaze's room and now Savannah's room. He paused upon arriving at Savannah's door and simply gazed at it for a moment. "She must be asleep," he murmured to himself, standing at the door and fighting the impulse to proceed, as he wished to respect her privacy. He assured that he wouldn't take any action without her consent.

At this moment, though, it was distinct; he felt compelled to check on her, to catch a final glimpse before sleeping, as his entire day had been chaotic, and just one look at her would help him feel calm and rejuvenated. After wrestling with his thoughts for five minutes, he finally grasped the handle, turned it down, and opened it, hesitating to proceed inside, yet something felt off as he noticed something unusual.

As he swung the door open, he switched on the lights and noticed that the space was empty. Savannah was not present inside. He searched the whole room, from the bathroom to the walk-in closet to the balcony, and she wasn't there? "The fuck" Blaze was growing more and more annoyed by her absence, so he exited the room after shutting the balcony door that had led him in.

He rushed outside, pulling out his phone from his suit pocket and calling someone, "Damn!" "Pick it up!" He muttered softly since Savannah wasn't picking up her phone. His frustration grew.

Following his abrupt exit from the room and again pressing the phone to his ears, Blaze charged down the stairs, "ARTHUR!" pulling the phone away from his ears and bellowing his secretary's name in exasperation, causing all his men to turn to their leader in surprise. Upon hearing his name, Arthur sprinted to the living room wearing his casual attire. "Boss" he faced his supervisor, who appeared stressed, upset, and fearful.

"Where is Savannah?" Arthur furrowed his brow, puzzled by why his boss posed this question, but he sensed there was more to it. "Isn't she in her room—" he was interrupted. "She's fucking not in her room," he scowled at him, anger clear on his face, "She isn't answering her phone?" Blaze remained silent this time, simply running his hand through his hair in frustration, worried that something terrible might happen to her.

He shouted, "WHY WAS I NOT TOLD?!" across the entire mansion, causing all of his men to lower their gaze to avoid meeting their boss's eyes. Just then, Elijah entered the mansion; he had been on guard outside and sensed the tension inside, so he remained silent in his spot, aware that something significant had occurred.

"Answer me!" his voice echoed across the mansion, and everyone felt ashamed and terrified to utter a word.

"Boss," Arthur attempted to communicate, "Calm down," he asked. "When was the last time you spoke with her?" he added "Perhaps she's with Theodore." He reasoned with his boss, "Let's try giving them a call." Blaze remained silent, interpreting this as a hint. "Elijah," Arthur called, and Elijah approached them.

"Get the school's number." Eliajh nodded and proceeded to move further away, while in the meantime, "Locate her phone. Now!!" Blaze informed the other men present, possibly wishing that nothing unfortunate had occurred to her.

Somewhere in the woods.

The air was thick, musty with the scent of decay and neglect, as Savannah lay sprawled on the cold, grimy floor of a dimly lit, forgotten space. The walls, once white, were now coated with layers of dirt, dust, and mildew, and cobwebs hung in every corner, clutching onto the meager light that trickled in from the outside world. The place felt abandoned, forsaken—like a memory left to rot in the dark.

Savannah stirred slowly, her consciousness rising from the fog of unconsciousness. Her vision blurred, and as she blinked, the darkness around her began to form into shapes—shadows in the gloom. She groaned softly, the painful ache in her head sending waves of dizziness through her. Tentatively, she lifted her hand to her forehead, trying to steady herself, her mind racing as she struggled to recall what had happened. Her breath quickened as the reality of the situation began to settle over her.

The last thing she remembered was being in the parking lot with Ana, laughing, talking—then nothing. Her thoughts felt foggy, disjointed, and that's when the full weight of her situation hit her. She was here. Wherever "here" was. A tight, suffocating space that looked like it hadn't been touched by human hands in years.

"Where the hell am I?" she murmured, her voice rough from disuse. Her gaze darted around the room as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. She attempted to push herself to her feet, her legs unsteady, like they hadn't fully realized they were supposed to hold her weight. The feeling of being trapped in a space so small, so confining, only deepened her panic.

She made her way to the door, every step tentative, unsure of what she might find. She reached for the handle, half-expecting it to be locked, but to her shock, it turned with ease. With her heart pounding in her chest, she pushed it open, glancing cautiously out into the hallway beyond.

The corridors stretched out before her, narrow and dimly lit by flickers of weak sunlight filtering through shattered windows. The walls were lined with peeling, faded paintings—most of them warped and cracked as if time had twisted their reality. The mirrors, too, were cracked and broken, reflecting distorted pieces of the world around her. The air felt thick, heavy, like the walls were closing in on her with every step she took.

But as she walked through the house, the atmosphere began to shift. The oppressive, suffocating weight of the earlier room gave way to a strangely melancholic air. Dusty sunlight spilled through broken panes, casting long, fragmented beams across the debris-littered floor. Old furniture, draped in dust covers, stood like forgotten relics of another time, and scattered personal belongings suggested lives once lived, memories long faded.

Each door she came to, however, was locked tight, and the realization that she was still trapped—trapped in this house that seemed to stretch endlessly in every direction—sent a surge of fear through her. She was running out of options.

She was about to turn away when she noticed a room that stood apart from the others. This one seemed... different. Less decayed, more intact. Without thinking, she hurried toward it, desperation rising in her chest. She turned the handle, pushed the door wide—and it was a stark contrast to the rest of the house. It was almost pristine, neat, as though someone still lived there.

Her eyes immediately fell on the open window. The escape. She could feel the rush of hope surge through her chest. She moved towards it, every instinct screaming to get out, to leave this place before it swallowed her whole. But just as her hand reached for the window, a voice stopped her dead in her tracks.

"I see you're awake."

Her heart froze. The voice was unmistakable, yet surreal, as though it didn't belong here. Savannah's pulse hammered in her ears as she spun around to face the source of the voice. There, standing in the doorway, was a man she knew all too well—a man she thought she'd never see again.

" You?"

The words barely escaped her lips, a mixture of disbelief and shock. "You abducted me?" she asked, even though she already knew the answer. It felt like a cruel joke, a nightmare she couldn't wake up from.

He stepped forward, his face grim but strangely calm. His eyes—those eyes—haunted her, and for a moment, she couldn't move. She couldn't think.

"Yes, Savannah," he said, his voice colder than she remembered. "It's me. Your child's father."

The words hit her like a blow to the chest, leaving her breathless. She could only stare at him, unable to comprehend the reality of the situation, of him standing there, in front of her, in a place she couldn't understand.

It was real. All of it. The kidnapping, the fear, the unanswered questions. The man who had once been part of her life was now the one holding the key to her freedom—or her doom.
