~AMELIA~
My daughter had been alive for less than two weeks, and somehow she had already turned me into a woman who stared at a sleeping baby every second of the day.
Insane, I know but my anxiety wouldn’t let me stay calm.
I leaned over the bassinet for what had to be the fifth time in one hour and watched Lily’s tiny chest rise and fall.
Still breathing.
Thank God.
I started to straighten when a warm hand slid over my hip.
“You do that again in the next three minutes, I’m moving the bassinet to my side of the bed,” Kaden murmured.
I looked over my shoulder. “You’re awake?”
He cracked one eye open. “You keep moving like a thief in our own room. Of course I’m awake.”
I frowned at him. “I am not moving like a thief.”
“You absolutely are.” He pushed himself up on one elbow, hair a mess, voice rough with sleep. “You creep over there, stare at her, come back, lie down, then do it again.”
A weak laugh slipped out of me before I could help it. “I’m just scared.”
