Chapter 267 - 267 - Amusement 5

*

Black and green light tangled high in the air, colliding at violent speeds that can't be observed with the naked eye. With a spinning kick, Sariel draws a bright a light in the sky. This very blade of light pierces into the centre of the eye, if it had a mouth it would be gritting its teeth as it endured. In the end, The Observer came out without a scratch, its body was tough and it was able to use the eldritch energy to toughen itself. It won't ever run out of the energy, but the actual output it cna muster at once is closer to an A grade magical girl.

Sariel just needs to keep trying. Using {Swap}, she appears over one of the black poles that her Oblivion Magia has been shooting as a projectile. Raising both hands with open palms, she creates two pseudo black holes. Only the appearance imitates a blackhole with no light able go escape, numerous coordinates are being swapped into the exact same target location, compressing everything in the local vicinity. These black holes can only exist in her Oblivion Magia so liberally.

If it was the real world, she could only concentrate on forming a singular one and it would be difficult to move the blackhole without also immobilising herself to calculate coordinates. Here, the black hole begins to intercept the enemy projectiles, causing the black poles rising out of her land to begin landing on the enemy target. It reinforces its skin instinctively the moment it saw its own projectiles fail to intercept the black poles, eating the barrage with almost no damage. Some spots of skin weren't reinforced in time, and small cracks formed while leaking blood.

However, this is getting nowhere. The body reinforcement is strong enough that the generic mana bullets from Sariel's Oblivion Magia won't leave even a scratch. There's no choice but to stop the barrage and observe for when it let's its guard down. It's a tough situation, due to The Observer deploying its own Oblivion Magia, its own magic resistance is beyond anything {Swap} can do. She can't selectively swap chunks of its flesh to another location to kill it. The black holes can't wander too far off of her own territory, or they will fizzle put. They're only stable because the Oblivion Magia is calculating the coordinates for her, for that matter she won't know the limit to the number of black holes she can form...

Alright... She shoots a singular black pole at the enemy. As expected, it had become somewhat of a turtle, hiding under its reinforced shell. As the pole collided with the enemy's toughened skin, she swaps it for a black hole. And... It disappears in an instant, leaving a hole on its body. The black holes could never get that close before, because closing a bit of distance was already enough for them to vanish like soda bubbles. However, when has distance ever been an issue for {Swap}?

Even the perfect defence can be overcome by the black holes sapping away the local material. After all, it's not a straight forward attack, but one that bypasses some rules to fulfill the skill. Sariel began replicating the attack, shooting blackhole after blackhole, if there's one thing that's right is that she's making a small amount of progress. However it's body was so huge that even if the black hole bullets blew out chunks of its flesh, the damage to its overall physique was almost negligible and instantly recoverable.

She couldn't specify a larger set of coordinates to increase the range of damage for the black hole bullet. That small amount is about all she could achieve, its magic defence is too strong for {Swap} to overcome. She's just about increased the potency of {Swap}, such that even targets that can resist magic can have their resistance overcome. However, this only works on opponents with a grade lower than hers, or if they're in her Oblivion Magia. Considering all A grades can deploy Oblivion Magia, these two rules are practically the same thing.

This fight has been going nowhere for awhile now, and The Observer has been passively defending for a bit thus far... Don't tell me, is it like a cocoon and some kind of stronger form is being birthed inside? It's own Oblivion Magia has no effect save for blocking hers, if there was such an extra function it would make sense. The A grade output limit must have been lifted, yet it hasn't done anything new.

Sariel raised her arm and clenched her fist, her territory began to pushed against The Observer's. The forces pushing against one another in the centre began to cause both territories to rumble like an earthquake. Inside one's own territory, they have near unlimited magical energy unless their intake was sealed by a skill. She refused to be believe this technique was only good for creating blackholes that vaguely ignore the rules but cause insubstantial damage.

She gathers her magic. Golden and black curtains of light flash, like streamers being sucked into the radiant orb growing greedily above her palm. Magic, technique, nothing works when the opponent can defend against anything. So she must rise above quantifiable power and fire an abstract attack that ignores the rules. The enemy is determined to stay in defensive mode, not even the bait she lays out is being paid attention to. It lends credence to a higher being or atrack hatching inside that massive body.

The concept of {Swap} is simple, it exchanges the locations of two items. After training for a long time she grew stronger, now the limit of two targets or the targets having to be non magical in nature has been overcome. She can't physically swap anything anymore, so perhaps...

This was her limit, the ultimate expression of her magic at this moment.

"{Swap}!!!" (Sariel)

With a deep howl, she called out to her skill. Bright golden light envelopes her body, spewing into a radiant silhouette. Her autumn dress flutters violently under the rising gale, the temperature of her body rises without ceasing. Physically, the enemy can impede the effects of swap with their own magic resistance. What about abstract concepts like stats? Naturally there aren't such related defences in place. So it was successful, they exchanged stats. Although they were both A grades, there was a world of difference between supporting a massive eyeball like body and an average human mass.

Simultaneously, cracks begun to expand over the surface of The Observer, spreading like spider webs. Chunks of its flesh flake off as it collapsed under its own mass. If it was liquid it would resemble a melted candle.

Was this really it? Sariel observed with bated breath until... The dark green territory began to shrink, with the black taking its space.
