To describe the situation briefly, Lastia found herself in a strange land with no memories. Armed with nothing but her instincts as a magical girl, she fought an A grade demon on the verge of destroying the world.
Defeating the last human would have yielded such a result, causing humanity to go extinct was the same as destroying the world conceptually as there would have been no more observers. Fulfilling this contract would have caused the demon to evolve into a being actually capable of physically destroying the universe.
In other words this land is of a post human extinction age, culture is dead, humanity is about to perish with her departure. Without the human sphere of influence, mystics have taken over the lands. Demons, nature spirits, beings of an entirely non-human interventive origin. At the same time without human observation, they will begin to take on non-human forms and gradually some of them will even stop being observable in the material world, with the worse cases losing their existence entirely.
These humanoid black entities with the label of 'demon' amassing in the distance, waiting for Lastia to make a move before pouncing on their prey, they are the last dregs of humanity. Technically their spiritual successors, their ruins or tombs devoid of actual bodies. With the first demon defeated, she assimilated its cognitive faculties, stealing its intelligence.
Information floods her mind, that demon was not unintelligent. Knowledge on the world's destruction, plans and decisions to ensure it all came to fruition, the forbidden fruit found itself in her mind. The demon hadn't expect the last human to be A grade, by all means it was the strongest creature on this planet, believing all the capable magical girls have already died out.
It also had many rivals further away and needed to snatch the prey before anyone else. Caught at the finishing line of a perpetual race, there was no room for thought. In the end, it like hadn't even registered that it died. By whatever process that sent Lastia here, it fried her mind and impaired her cognitive functions. Now that she had finally gained self awareness, she detects the crowd of enemies hidden behind the trees. All of them saw what happened, they are afraid of being the first to be cast out, like watching a gladiator in the ring. Only, the audience might be pushed into the ring and get devoured by a savage sword.
They were no slouch, they understood her strength. What made her more wary was that they still hid around the edge of her detection range, despite knowing her superior strength. They were all determined to use each other to wear her down, a protracted fight wouldn't end well for her. For the rest? They must believe they can overcome life and death. One step, two step, she blasts past the sound barrier, annhilating the surrounding trees with a sonic boom. As it stood, she was in the middle of a large forest, the canopy was one or two floors high and didn't completely block out the sky.
Her surroundings blur into a continuous indistinguishable mess, she was more gliding through reality than she is running, taking a single step could bring her plenty of airtime. Now, she closes in on the perimeter, the rest have begun to amass behind her too. The demon closes to her on the other hand... Intended to be the last one standing, so it tried to run instead. A black humanoid shape flickers from behind the bush, visibly startled. These weaker demons didn't even have facial features, spiritual and mystical creatures were all beginning to lose their personification.
They hadn't relied on observation before, but without people around regardless of whether they believe in myths or not, they start revert into natural phenomena. The universe was dissolving their species, back into the air and cloud, stars and skies they go. Tornadoes, earthquakes, all manners of devastation would continue to occur, with no humans to blame natural phenomena on the supernatural, the supernatural will vanish without the foundation of their existence.
It came with the territory of being supernatural. To be supernatural implies something must be natural, the anthroposphere remains at the bottom of the supernatural food chain, yet they are the first and foremost observers that anchor the supernatural existences into reality. "At the same time, we have magical girls that exist entirely outside this food web." (Lastia)
With a single swing, she crushes and disintegrates the head of the demon she chased, then she continued to run. As she expected, a portion of the demons chasing her back were getting bogged down by infighting. They made the mistake of assuming she was normal. With the recent assimilation of that faceless demon's intelligence, she starts to comprehend more about herself and the world. If forced to compare, she would be one of the most energy efficient beings on this planet.
She could assimilate the magical energy of enemies she fell, if she kept killing demon after demon then she wouldn't run out even if there were an infinite number of them. With a swig of that confidence, she figured even S grade opponents can be dealt with through attrition, to tire them down and kill them afterwards like how primitive humans hunted larger beasts. They rush through the forest like missiles, burning through any organic matter that unfortunately ends up in the way, entire trees vanish and a trail of clearing snakes behind her.
{Envy} forms a thin shell of red light around her, enhancing her aerodynamics, at the same time it dispersed all her heat into the surroundings. How big was this forest? Why am I here? Who... Am I? Where is everyone else? In this empty, lonely world, she continues to travel in one direction. She felt like she used to have more, more important things to hold onto, something to perpetually search for. A goal to grasp her hand out to, it was truly strange, because she could sense none of that was in this world. Yet, the answers still lay here, even if what was of true value resided somewhere else.
She turns around and fires bolts of condensed energy, it felt like they had homing capabilities but she was manually controlling their trajectories. Some of bolts crashed into trees, shrouding large swathes of land in smoke and ash, others land near their targets. Large grey clouds rise into the atmosphere, obscuring the stars.
