Cassie stared intently at the red wine her uncle poured into a glass. She bit her lips and sunk her fingernails into her palms.
What she wouldn't do to get a taste of that.
Picking up the half full glass, he said, "It's a good thing that wench Serena is finally out of our lives for good." He started off, tossing a leg carelessly over the other.
Cassie didn't break concentration from his hand. Her eyes following the dark liquid as it swirled round the edges of the glass. She licked her lips.
"Mhmm." She managed a response.
He tapped his finger against the glass, "She nearly threw all our hard work under the bus. I didn't think she'd be that selfish."
Cassie hissed, "Don't remind me." The events from yesterday played in her mind. "If father wasn't so certain, I'd doubt she was my real mother."
