Damien's words resounded in Brooke's head during the drive back home from their uneventful visit.
"Just kidding." Damien had swiftly inserted, "What? You can't take a joke?" he chuckled, his smile never reaching his eyes.
Was he being serious though?
She wondered as Thane pulled back on the brakes of his car, snapping her back to reality.
Her eyes soaked in the cars in front and on all sides surrounding them. "A traffic jam at this hour?" She questioned, peering through the glass to see what was causing the hold up.
She looked to Thane, who seemed awfully quiet. His gaze was pointed forward, but it didn't seem he was focused on the traffic.
"Hey? What's wrong?" She rested her hand on his thigh. She suspected he was hung up on whatever he spoke about with his parents.
Beating him to a reply, her phone rang, tearing her attention. She tried to ignore it, but Thane insisted with a small smile she answer it.
