[City Park – Sunday Morning]
The park was alive with laughter, children running about and the faint scent of blooming jasmine carried on the breeze.
Angella sat on a bench beneath a large oak tree, watching Juliana and Kevin chase each other across the grassy field. Their giggles rose and fell like music. It was innocent, light and full of life.
And for once, she felt calm.
That peace, however, wavered the moment she saw him.
Damien Anderson, dressed in a light grey shirt and jeans, sunglasses hooked at his collar and a coffee cup in hand, looked so effortlessly out of place among the chaos of children that she nearly forgot to breathe.
He looked relaxed and almost boyish with his hair slightly wind-swept and that unmistakable curve tugging at his lips the moment his eyes landed on her.
"Well," he said, stopping a few feet away, "fancy seeing you here."
