Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 326: The Taste of the Starry Sky
The morning dew soaked the traveler's pant legs. Under the sunlight, windwheel asters slowly turned, faintly rustling as they spun.
After passing Starfell Lake, the small path on the ground had almost completely disappeared. If Bai Luo weren't so used to digging around everywhere, and if Draff hadn't left him a map, he might have gotten lost.
'This is Mr. Draff's map!'
When the Ausbilder took out the map, Diluc couldn't help leaning forward.
The lingering scent left by Draff on the map, combined with those distinctive markings, allowed him to recognize its origin at a glance.
It seemed their guess had been correct after all, the situation over in Springvale really had been caused by the Ausbilder.
Could the thing he was looking for this time be something similar to the spring fairy?
But there didn't seem to be any fairies around Starfell Valley. There were plenty of Seelies, sure—and even an Anemo Hypostasis—but nothing else of that sort.
If it wasn't any of those… could it be the legendary fallen star?
"Master Diluc, lend me a hand."
After putting the map away, Bai Luo pointed toward the seaside, gesturing for him to sniff in that direction.
"Meow."
Diluc arched his body, preparing himself.
"Help me smell the air and see if there's a scent of roasted pork meat, preferably the kind with the fragrance of Sunsettia."
"???"
Diluc had already braced himself for some strange request from the Ausbilder, but he hadn't expected this.
He shot the Ausbilder a look full of disdain, as if to say: You went through all that trouble to turn me into a cat just to look for a pig?
"The thing I'm looking for stole my whole roasted pig before I even met you."
"..."
Diluc flicked his whiskers, faced the wind blowing in from the valley ahead, closed his eyes, and carefully took a sniff.
Mondstadt was a nation blessed by the Anemo Archon, and traces of wind could be seen everywhere.
Swaying trees, dancing flowers and grass, even mountains worn down by the wind.
Under such conditions, the smell of roast pork could easily be scattered everywhere by the wind—or even completely dispersed.
But Bai Luo had confidence in his Sunsettia. It definitely wasn't something the wind could so easily defeat.
Though this wasn't the first time Diluc had turned into a cat, this was his first time using his sense of smell to track something down.
In the air… there was the stench of hilichurls, the chaotic scent of Abyss Mages, the salty tang of sea wind, the rot of decay, and also… the smell of the starry sky?
Diluc didn't know why that scent gave him such an impression.
Maybe it was simply an instinct engraved into an animal's DNA.
In any case, among all those interwoven odors, he found the roast pork scent the Ausbilder had mentioned.
"Meow!"
Pointing straight ahead, Diluc gave Bai Luo the signal.
"Got it."
Out of habit, Bai Luo gave Cat Diluc's head a quick rub, activated his invisibility, and dashed in the direction Diluc had indicated.
"!!!"
The moment Bai Luo activated his invisibility, Diluc—still in cat form—was pulled along with him into that strange space.
Only then did he finally understand why elements could not be applied to the Ausbilder.
Within this peculiar space, aside from his collision volume remaining in the real world, everything else about the Ausbilder had been completely erased.
Bai Luo also noticed Diluc's reaction.
But he wasn't worried about Diluc discovering the nature of his invisibility, because his true trump card was quantum teleportation. Invisibility was merely an appetizer.
He might as well consider it… a small reward for hardworking Cat Diluc.
As for why he was willing to risk Diluc noticing the nature of his abilities by entering invisibility, it was because he placed great importance on the one who had stolen his roasted pig.
He had actually already vaguely guessed who the thief was.
Someone who loved food, left no footprints on the ground, and could disappear without a sound.
If he didn't enter this stealth state that even gods couldn't detect, he didn't think he'd be able to catch the other party at all.
Guided by Diluc, Bai Luo entered a long, narrow valley. After moving forward for a while, the sound of waves gradually reached his ears.
Once they exited the valley, the view ahead was replaced by a boundless ocean.
"Meow!"
When he saw that half of the roasted pig by the shore was gone, Diluc's eyes lit up and he immediately jumped down from Bai Luo's shoulder.
But just as he approached the roasted pig, Bai Luo quickly grabbed him by the scruff of the neck.
At first, Diluc was a little confused, but when he saw the situation around the roasted pig, his fur instantly bristled.
Beside the roasted pork lay piles of stinking fish and rotten shrimp, along with several crabs flipped onto their backs.
So the putrid smell he had picked up earlier had actually come from here.
"Brave warrior indeed…"
Looking at the roasted pig—now missing a full half—and the Sunsettias that had completely disappeared, even Bai Luo couldn't help but want to praise the culprit.
He didn't know whether that little thing had eaten it all itself, or whether the fish and shrimp in the sea had taken bites as well.
Either way, this little creature was absolutely the one that had eaten more of his Sunsettias than anything else to date—no exceptions.
Come to think of it… could it be that the little thing had fainted and fallen into the water after eating his Sunsettias?
Hmm… that was entirely possible. He had full confidence in the power of his Sunsettias.
After the Ausbilder set him down, Diluc once again approached the roasted pig that looked somewhat terrifying now.
He circled it twice but didn't try to get too close.
Judging from the situation here, this pig had definitely been tampered with by the Ausbilder.
Despite traveling across the Seven Nations for so long, this was the first time he had encountered a poison that smelled fragrant and made one's mouth water.
Then again, considering the potions the Ausbilder had that could turn people into animals, it wasn't all that surprising.
After all, anything those people from Sumeru came up with wouldn't really shock anyone.
"Can you smell any trace of a person nearby?"
Bai Luo squatted down, scratched under Cat Diluc's chin, and asked.
With a look of utter disdain, Diluc dodged the Ausbilder's hand, but he was still obedient enough to close his eyes and carefully sniff the surroundings.
The smell of the starry sky.
This seaside area was where that scent was the strongest, yet there was no sign of the one it belonged to.
Aside from that, there was…
Wait a moment!
After analyzing countless scents, Diluc suddenly realized something.
He couldn't smell the Ausbilder at all!
At first, when he was still on the Ausbilder's body, he had subconsciously ignored this fact.
But even after reaching the ground, he still couldn't detect the slightest trace of Ausbilder's scent, it's as if...as if that person didn't exist at all.
"Did you find something?"
Seeing Diluc looking at him, Bai Luo thought he had made a new discovery and spoke up.
"Meow."
Diluc gave a perfunctory reply and moved closer to the Ausbilder, trying to sniff his scent.
But even with his nose pressed right up against him, there was still no smell at all.
Either he was using some method to mask his own scent, or he was even more terrifying than the one who carried the smell of the starry sky.
. . . . .
