Chapter 518 - Chapter 518: Flame God

"Protego totalum! Protego horribilis!"

"Protego totalum! Protego horribilis!"

The black-robed wizards chanted in unison as silver-white light surged from the tips of their wands, fusing into the massive, translucent barrier before them.

What had initially looked like a thin film gradually solidified, becoming sturdy and firm. From above, it resembled a crystal shield laid out across the land.

Wade approached Grindelwald and heard the old man ask in a low voice, "Do you remember the magic I told you about—one that can counter Fiery Fire Shield?"

"I remember," Wade replied.

Spells like Finite Incantatem are universal counters capable of resisting most curses, but they aren't always the best option—especially when dealing with fire-based spells that grow stronger the more they burn. In those cases, such counters seem to be inefficient and wasteful.

According to Grindelwald's theory, the best way to combat Fiery Fire Shield and Fiendfyre is with fire itself.

Although both types of fire are highly destructive, Fiendfyre behaves almost like a living entity—it has a will of its own and burns anything combustible in its path. However, its actual temperature isn't especially high.

This means that even if one stands just a few feet away from the flames, without direct contact, there will be no heat damage, no scorching air, and no explosive combustion.

Fiery Fire Shield is more about selective lethality: it will incinerate enemies who touch the flames instantly, while allies will remain unharmed—some won't even feel any heat.

But within the book of Dark Magic that Grindelwald had gifted Wade, there was a different fire spell—one that emphasizedextreme heat and lethal force.

It could instantly suppress and consume Fiendfyre, pierce through Fiery Fire Shield, and annihilate the wizard on the spot.

The drawback? It is massively draining and lasts only for a very short time.

"You once said my past strategy was flawed—that slaughter and tyranny couldn't change the wizarding world."

Grindelwald's words made Wade's expression shift slightly. He thought Grindelwald had already moved past that chapter—why bring it up now?

Then the once-king spoke arrogantly:

"Most wizards are foolish, complacent sheep. When a lion tries to lead them to become wolves, not only do they refuse, but they also rise up in resistance."

Wade raised an eyebrow slightly and said, "Isn't it natural to fight for the lives of one's family and oneself?"

Behind them, the barrier was nearly fully formed, but Grindelwald still had his wand in his pocket, showing no intention of joining in.

He chuckled softly and said. "I'll admit there's some truth in what you said. I can see you've put serious thought into how to bring about real change."

"But, child, that alone is not enough... Mere ideas and morals aren't enough to earn people's respect and loyalty."

"In this world, many people fear overwhelming force—but they rarely feel gratitude for kindness or help."

Grindelwald's eyes seemed to gaze off into the distance, and Wade was certain that, just like himself, the old man was thinking of Dumbledore at that moment.

Although the original plot—like the Ministry of Magic slandering, banishing Dumbledore and Harry, and trying to falsely charge them—hadn't happened in this version, Grindelwald seemed as though he had already foreseen that future.

He knew very well— The wizarding world never thanked its saviors.

Not a single one of them.

"So if you want people to listen to you," Grindelwald said, "you must show them your strength… devastating strength. Only then will everyone become polite, peace-loving, and respectful of your will."

Grindelwald chuckled softly. "Even Athena bore a shield and spear, Wade. Only violence can stop violence. So go—show them all your power."

Just as he finished speaking, a series of thunderous booms erupted from within the forest.

"BOOM—BOOM—BOOM—"

In Wade's line of sight, seven or eight massive trees yanked their thick roots out of the earth and began marching toward the camp.

Their trunks twisted grotesquely, and their branches quivered violently. Enormous limbs lashed out in all directions, knocking over smaller trees in their path. Some of the larger trees, now too close together, even began fighting each other in a savage frenzy.

The smallest of them was as tall as a six-story building. The tallest reached over thirty or forty meters, lumbering forward with ground-shaking force that made the earth tremble.

Faced with this world-ending spectacle, Grindelwald laughed.

"I thought that guy would wait until the match was over… Looks like our friend lacks a bit of patience."

He pointed his wand skyward. A massive orb of light shot into the air—like a new sun rising over the wasteland, casting every detail into sharp, merciless clarity.

Under their black hoods, many of the Alliance members went pale. Their legs trembled uncontrollably. If not for Grindelwald standing at the front, many might have Disapparated on the spot the moment the towering trees emerged.

Even Antoine stopped joking with the people around him, and gripped his wand more tightly.

Beside him, the young witch holding the Streaming Mirror-Master Lens was a short-haired brunette. Her hands shook as she asked in terror:

"Why… why are we the ones facing these monsters? There are a hundred thousand wizards in the stadium behind us!"

"Mr. Grindelwald naturally has his reasons," Antoine said with a stiff face, forcing himself to stay calm. "Trust in our leader."

The girl nodded—only to see the unassuming wizard beside Grindelwald begin walking forward… toward the monstrous trees.

"What… what is he doing?!"

The brown-haired girl cried out in panic.

Antoine didn't respond. He looked nervously from Wade to Grindelwald, and couldn't help but take a step forward—only to freeze under Delaine's sharp gaze.

As Wade walked ahead, he was surprised to find himself feeling no fear at all. In fact, he was unusually calm.

So calm it unsettled even himself. As if the towering, murderous trees in front of him were no more dangerous than a trip downstairs to buy breakfast.

He thought to himself: Back at the beginning, I never wanted to change anything. I didn't care about influence or control. I just wanted to learn more magic… safely, in peace.

Magic is wondrous, and the wizarding world is beautiful, but I had even thought of fleeing the country with my parents if Voldemort returns—just to stay safe.

So when did that mindset start to shift, little by little?

Wade stared at the monstrous trees ahead. He let out a soft sigh and raised his wand—

"Ignis Divinum Furor!" (Wrath of the Flame God!)
