Delaine didn't hear the incantation Wade was chanting. All of a sudden, he just felt as if an invisible current had surged through his body—his nerves all trembled in unison, and a strange sensation crept up his spine.
Time, in that moment, seemed to have turned into thick honey, flowing at an excruciatingly slow pace. His pupils dilated instantly, as if he could see every speck of dust floating and spinning in the light.
He saw a red glow suddenly appear at the tip of Wade's wand.
The red grew brighter and brighter, and the beam of light, after traveling less than five inches, turned bright yellow.
In the next instant, the beam transformed into a bluish-white.
And in yet another flash, the blue faded as if vanishing completely.
The transformation happened extremely quickly, but to his eyes, it felt vividly clear, as if time itself had stretched.
Delaine blinked slowly, and felt as if something invisible was distorting the air and silently licking the ground.
He knew something incredibly dangerous was present, but his eyes couldn't see it. That feeling alone was enough to drive someone insane.
Fortunately, that moment was extremely brief—before even a full blink had passed, the scene in front of him changed dramatically.
The massive trees that had been lunging at them with gaping maws instantly turned into gray-white ash, churning in the heat like a sudden eruption of clouds.
The birds and beasts of the forest had already fled in chaos due to the unnatural transformation of the trees.
But one unfortunate bird happened to fly across in front of them—its wings, still in flight, carbonized instantly, and a moment later, it dissolved into a wisp of drifting ash.
Even the rocks cracked with spiderweb-like fractures, and the gray-black ground flickered with a strange phosphorescent glow before quickly turning into scorched debris.
Moments later, all anomalies were blanketed by gently falling ash, as if snow had begun to fall.
The entire scene of destruction was eerily silent, as if even sound had been devoured. Everything visible was annihilated in an instant, without a hint of resistance.
Delaine's pupils shrank to pinpoints, his Adam's apple bobbed unconsciously, and cold sweat slid down his temple. The muscles at the sides of his face twitched violently.
Antoine hadn't seen as much detail. When Wade cast the spell, he had been secretly watching Grindelwald's expression.
By the time he turned his head, all he saw was a massive fan-shaped area ahead where the towering trees, creatures, ordinary plants, and flowers had all vanished from the surface of the earth.
Only plumes of ash erupted upward, then slowly drifted down—like someone had plucked the clouds and snow from the sky.
Antoine blinked, struggling to process what he'd just seen. He looked to the dazed, brown-haired witch beside him and asked, "What just happened?"
The witch stiffly turned her head, inch by inch, and looked at him. For a long while, she couldn't utter a word.
At that moment, everyone had lost their voice. Even Grindelwald squinted slightly and only after a while let out a faint chuckle.
…
When Wade lowered his wand, whether from overexertion or emotional impact, his arm was still trembling slightly. All he could hear was the thunderous roar of blood surging in his ears.
The destructive power of the spell was astonishingly precise—no flame had spread beyond the fan-shaped zone.
That massive oak tree, which had been awakened, was positioned right on the edge. Two-thirds of its trunk vanished in an instant, leaving only a small section behind—its bark had burst and fallen away, revealing a charred and dry trunk and branches after all its moisture had been vaporized.
With a dull thud, the remaining part of the oak collapsed.
At this moment, only the corrupted trees outside the affected zone could still move—but even they seemed to have been frozen in place.
The trees twisted their trunks dramatically, and their crowns bent away from the destroyed forest. Despite lacking any facial features, they somehow gave off the impression of being utterly stunned.
"Whoosh—"
Suddenly, a gust of wind whipped up out of nowhere, rustling the leaves and blowing away the thick layer of dust on the ground.
The awakened trees didn't possess independent souls. In their minds, there seemed to be no concept of fear or flight—only overflowing rage and bloodlust.
So, after freezing for just a moment, the towering figures once again charged toward the wizards at high speed. Some of them, already close, looked like they were about to slam straight into the protective barrier.
But compared to their terrifying momentum earlier, the trees now appeared somewhat isolated—and there was now a massive gap in the center of their formation.
Wade's arm was still trembling as if in spasm. Though he didn't cast a second spell, a red light suddenly shot out from beside him.
A firebird spread its wings and launched forward like an arrow released from a bowstring.
The trees ignited the moment it brushed against them—fire serpents coiled and hissed as the heat waves surged upward. One towering tree struggled within the flames, but even as it burned, it didn't stop its charge.
The firebird's body expanded rapidly. Suddenly, various flaming beasts erupted from it—giant serpents, fire dragons, chimeras, and winged hippogriffs...
These fire beasts collided head-on with the charging trees. Sparks burst in every direction. Their clawed feet tore through roots, and their golden-red flames twisted around trunks, roasting the resin until it seeped from the cracks.
But the giant trees seemed impervious to pain. They thundered forward through the blaze, undeterred. Even as their trunks charred to blackened carbon, as long as their roots remained intact, they would not stop.
"Boom—"
One of the leading trees had already slammed into the barrier. A sky-high tree engulfed in flames repeatedly crashed into it. Thick branches pounded against the magical shield, producing deafening bangs.
"Hold the line! Hold the line!" someone shouted. "They can't withstand cursed fire for long—they'll burn out soon! Just hold on!"
"Brown already wiped out most of them! We can't possibly be stopped by just this small group, right?"
Thin silver beams of light connected the barrier to the wizards' wands. Each wizard gripped their wand with both hands, and their arms trembled uncontrollably. It looked like an immense struggle, yet not a single one of them ran.
The usually grim and silent Alliance suddenly seemed ignited with fervor. Wade looked back at the scene, and felt that something about it was oddly out of place.
The area in front of him had already been completely cleared. The surroundings were now eerily empty—so calm it was almost unsettling.
Wade was about to act again, but Grindelwald stopped him.
"You've already handled the most dangerous part. Leave the rest to them." Grindelwald asked with a faint smile, "How does it feel to possess such power, Wade?"
"I don't understand," Wade looked at Grindelwald and asked curiously, "You've mastered magic to this level—how did you ever lose to Dumbledore back then?"
Grindelwald's smile vanished instantly.
