"Midnight Society? So that was the original name of the student club?" Harry asked. "What do you guys think they were doing?"
"They were probably just like us—studying how to learn better," Michael said dismissively.
Padma curled her lip and said, "I can't believe a club like that didn't survive, while stuff like the Gobstones Club has lasted for years. It's just… incomprehensible. What do you think, Hermione?"
Hermione stroked her chin thoughtfully and said, "Starting a club… actually sounds like a good idea."
"What kind of club?" Padma pressed. "Are you thinking of starting one too?"
"Why not? It's the right thing to do," Hermione said slowly. "Class exploitation is the root of social inequality. Even house-elves deserve equal human rights… Slave labor is absolutely wrong andunacceptable!"
"What's unacceptable?"
Hermione had spoken so quietly that Padma didn't catch it and asked again.
Suddenly, Hermione grabbed Padma's hand, her eyes shining as she asked, "Padma, if I start a new club, you'll definitely join, right?"
Her expression made it seem like she'd finally found her life's calling, but that sudden burst of intense enthusiasm startled Padma a bit, and she let out a weak, "…Huh?"
While they were talking, Wade had already finished examining the wooden sign. He grabbed the brass handle and pulled open the door.
A wave of herbal-scented magical cleanser greeted them—it seemed the classroom had just been cleaned, and the air was a little damp.
Perhaps due to the focus on spell practice, the room had a blackboard but no desks or chairs. Instead, there were targets arranged around the edges for spell practice.
There were already quite a few people inside, and they all looked up as the door opened.
Students from not only Ravenclaw were present, but also from Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and even Slytherin.
Of course, Slytherins were the fewest. Among Wade's year, only Daphne—dragged there by her sister—stood stiffly in a corner with a cold and unapproachable face.
Seeing such a packed room, several of the students walking behind Wade instinctively stopped in their tracks and suddenly looked nervous.
"This many people?" Harry swallowed and whispered, "I thought there'd be maybe a dozen, tops."
The room looked like it held forty or fifty students.
"Looks like more people want to learn spells than we expected," Michael murmured, stroking his chin. "These guys are all probably planning to join the tournament once they've learned enough."
"Doesn't that mean Wade's basically training his own competition?" Padma muttered, momentarily forgetting Hermione's idea about starting a club.
After a brief pause, Wade continued walking forward, and all eyes in the room followed his steps.
The students who had given up their free time to come here clearly respected Wade's magical skills. No one questioned his authority, nor did anyone dare to challenge him foolishly.
If anything, it was the students who looked more nervous than Wade—fidgeting, tugging at their collars, smoothing out wrinkles in their robes, or even avoiding his gaze altogether.
Anthony quickly came up to greet them, beaming. "You're here! We've all been waiting for you, Wade."
Then Anthony leaned in close to Wade and said quietly, "Some of the Slytherin students helped set up the classroom too. If you spend a bit of time with them, you'll see—not every Slytherin is unpleasant."
Wade: "…"
In truth, Wade didn't have any issue with Slytherins as a whole—his problems were always with the actions of specific individuals, not the entire House.
But at Hogwarts, it seemed like any behavior was easily tagged with a House label. Even though things had improved in recent years, the long-standing tension and discrimination were not so easily erased.
Wade gave Anthony a small nod, then walked through the crowd to the very front.
Like a typical classroom, this activity room had a raised platform at the front. Wade stepped up onto it and turned to face the gathered students.
All eyes were on him. Standing in that spot, the faces and expressions of the crowd blurred into the background. Only the clarity in their eyes shone through.
"Good evening, everyone."
Wade spoke in as calm a tone as possible: "Though we come from different Houses and different years, I believe everyone here shares the same goal—"
"To master more magical knowledge, to improve our spellcasting skills, and to win glory—for Hogwarts and for ourselves—in the upcoming Inter-School Magic Tournament!"
"So, in the Spells Study Group, we'll focus primarily on practical combat spells—Sheild spells, Disarming spells, Healing spells, Stunning spells, Expelling spells… Regardless of whether these spells are currently beyond your level, they are our top priorities."
"But before we begin, we need to make a few rules clear. If anyone feels they can't follow them, you're free to leave now. If anyone breaks them… I'll ask them to leave."
Wade scanned the room and paused slightly. Seeing that no one objected, he continued in a firm, unmistakably authoritative voice:
"First: No casting spells on other students without permission. No harmful or insulting spells, and no pranks while others are practicing."
Wade's eyes briefly landed on the Weasley twins. Both opened their mouths in exaggerated disbelief with ridiculous and amusing expressions.
A few chuckles rippled through the room, but it quickly quieted down.
"Second: There are no House divisions here. You may need to pair up with anyone for practice. If you can't accept that—if you complain, give the cold shoulder, refuse to cooperate, or start fights or feuds over sparring—sorry, I'll have to ask you to leave."
Some students looked like they wanted to protest, but when Wade's gaze swept over them, they fell silent.
Wade continued briskly, laying out the rest of the rules in one go:
"Third: Anyone who already knows the spell has the responsibility to help others practice—just like I'm willing to stand here and help you. Again—no House or year-level boundaries."
"Fourth: If anyone disagrees with how I teach a spell, or thinks there's a better method, you're welcome to discuss it with me privately. But interruptions during lessons won't be tolerated."
"Fifth: The Spells Study Group is entirely voluntary. Anyone who no longer wishes to participate may leave at any time. And even those who aren't here today—are welcome to join in the future. But anyone who enters this room must abide by my rules."
"Any questions?"
He swept his gaze across the room, and his eyes carried a quiet intensity that seemed to still the air itself. The students unconsciously straightened up and their breathing became slow and quiet.
