Chapter 156 - Project pegasus II

Black Widow's fingers twitched again, almost like a spasm—but it wasn't. Threads, thinner than hair and nearly invisible, began to stretch along the interior of the transport. Loki's control held her body still, but the demonic spider familiar pulsed within her chest, reacting to the Tesseract's energy like a predator sensing prey.

Loki leaned back casually in his seat, confident. "You can struggle all you want," he said without looking at her. "But your body obeys me now. Your will… means nothing."

Inside her mind, Natasha grit her teeth. You control my body… not my intent.

Ahead of them, the mountain pass narrowed. Loki tapped the front dash, and the vehicle's systems responded, shield plates unfolding over the roof. Selvig maintained his grip on the Tesseract case, blue light flickering across his eyes with each pulse of energy.

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. Command—

"Sir!" Maria said, eyes locked on the tactical screen. "Convoy approaching Ridge Point. That pass only has two exits. If we block the east side, we can trap them."

"Do it," Fury ordered. "Deploy drones Alpha-One through Four. Arm concussion rounds only—we don't risk hitting the Tesseract."

On the monitors, drone icons split formation and accelerated, locking onto Loki's position.

Inside the convoy, a faint metallic screech echoed through the hull—one of the drones overhead had begun a targeting scan.

Loki tilted his head, amused. "Fury's getting desperate."

Natasha's eyes flickered again. The venom now glowed beneath her skin like molten lines. She couldn't move… but she could feel every thread she had placed inside the vehicle. With a small pulse of intent—not movement, just will—the webbing subtly tightened around Selvig's wrist.

His fingers twitched. Just a centimeter—but enough to make Loki glance at him.

"…Hm." Loki's eyes narrowed slightly.

At that moment—CRACK—!

A concussive round from a S.H.I.E.L.D. drone detonated at the side of the road, sending dust and rock flying in a controlled explosion meant to cut off their route.

Loki smirked. "He thinks he can corner me." He extended his hand, scepter glowing. A shimmering wave of energy erupted forward—

And at that exact moment, Natasha's inner voice hissed through the web network like a command: Detonate now.

Hidden webs she had laid earlier snapped tight and ripped into the vehicle's electronic panel. Sparks burst from the console. The vehicle jolted violently.

Selvig almost lost his grip on the Tesseract case.

Loki's amusement vanished instantly.

The vehicle lurched violently, tires skidding against the rocky ground. Sparks flew from the console, smoke curling into the cabin. Loki swore, his hand gripping the scepter tighter, energy crackling along his fingers as he struggled to regain control.

Natasha's eyes flared brighter, venom pulsing like molten fire beneath her skin. Though Loki still held her body in his grasp, her will began to seep into every thread, every circuit she had subtly tampered with. The scepter's energy fluctuated—unstable under the invisible assault of her webs.

"Selvig!" Loki barked, his voice sharp and urgent. The scientist's hands trembled, the Tesseract wobbling dangerously in his grasp. The glow flickered, unstable.

The convoy swerved around the first obstacle—the dust and rock from the drone strike—but now the second threat hit. Another concussive blast from a S.H.I.E.L.D. drone detonated near the rear of the vehicle, throwing the back wheels off balance. The transport tilted precariously on the edge of a cliffside.

"Not enough…" Natasha whispered inside her own mind, venom sliding through her veins, her demonic spider familiar coiling in anticipation. She focused on the web threads, extending them further into the vehicle's wiring, grounding Loki's scepter energy in tiny arcs of static that danced across the dashboard.

Loki's eyes flickered. "What—?" His control faltered for just a heartbeat, long enough for Natasha to tense every muscle in sync with her webs.

CRASH!

A panel snapped loose, sparking wildly. The vehicle jolted again, throwing Selvig off balance. The Tesseract teetered dangerously. Loki hissed, releasing a surge of scepter energy, and the cabin lit up with green lightning—but the web threads absorbed and redirected part of it, short-circuiting several systems.

"Now," Natasha's mind hissed, every fiber of her being connected to the threads. A final pulse surged through the web network, and the vehicle's electronics erupted in a shower of sparks. The engine stuttered violently, shields flickered, and the tires screamed against the rocky road as it skidded toward the cliffside edge.

Outside, S.H.I.E.L.D. drones and jets closed in, their sensors tracking every movement. Fury leaned over the tactical display, eyes wide. "She's destabilizing it from the inside! Keep them contained!"

The convoy teetered. Loki cursed, trying to regain control over both Natasha and the vehicle. "You insolent—!" He lunged for the Tesseract, but Selvig yelped, nearly dropping it as the cabin shook violently.

Natasha's eyes flared fully, venom crackling in molten lines down her arms. She was trapped, yet unstoppable. Her webs—her will—were finally forcing a reaction, one small but crucial: the balance of power inside the vehicle had shifted, even if just a little.

And that little was enough to tip the first domino.

The vehicle teetered at the cliff's edge, metal screeching against jagged rocks below. Loki's green lightning arced across the cabin as he fought to regain control, but Natasha's webs had already tangled with critical circuits. Sparks flew like tiny fireworks, casting eerie shadows across her glowing, venom-laced eyes.

"Selvig, hold it steady!" Loki barked, but even his voice trembled with irritation. The scientist's hands shook uncontrollably as the Tesseract wobbled, the blue light pulsing erratically.

Natasha felt the surge of power through her threads, her venom coiling through her muscles like a living weapon. She couldn't move freely, but she could direct the flow of energy. Tiny pulses of her will now interfered with Loki's magic, short-circuiting scepter outputs, tripping stabilizers, and keeping the vehicle's systems on the verge of failure.

The transport slid forward on the gravel, tires clawing at the cliffside rocks. Outside, S.H.I.E.L.D. jets dove into formation, flanking the convoy. Drones zipped around, scanning and firing precise concussive blasts meant to herd the vehicle—not destroy it.

"Fury, they're slowing! The vehicle's unstable!" Maria Hill called, watching the feeds.

"Good," Fury muttered. "Keep the pressure. She's fighting from the inside—let her finish it."
