He moved his hand closer to the table. The orb's glow brightened, hummed faintly with an unnatural sound that vibrated in my bones. The candles around us flickered violently.
"This little thing could erase everything in this hall if I were careless enough to drop it."
I instinctively leaned back, gripping the edge of the table.
"Right. That includes both of us."
I had to remind him. It was scary as hell when a madman was holding something like that. You wouldn't know how far their insanity could go. And he probably said that with a grin on his face.
What a psychopath.
"Don't worry, Jade. I won't waste this on just blowing dinners. This thing is insanely expensive. It was difficult to produce. We wasted billions of dollars to build an extremely complex particle accelerator that requires massive amounts of energy to operate…just to obtain the tiniest quantities we could."
