The tension reached its peak as Hunter J's party released their Pokemon to attack Gladion.
everal strong Pokemon appeared on the ground and in the air around him. They looked ready to strike at any moment. Gladion did not waste any time either.
He released his two legendary Pokemon, Latios and Latias. The two siblings appeared and took positions on either side of him. Their presence immediately changed the feeling of the battlefield.
The legendary dragons floated gracefully and stared down the enemy calmly.
[My my little brother. You sure are popular among humans. They just cannot get enough of you. Even after our show of destroying that Team Rocket base and killing everyone of them, they sure keep coming back for more,] Latias said in Gladion's mind through telepathy.
She sounded almost proud of how much trouble her brother attracted. Latias then turned her head upwards toward the sky. [And that is quite a strong Salamence there.] She observed Hunter J's Alpha Salamence carefully, noting its size and powerful aura.
Gladion thought quietly to himself, 'True. Who would have thought that Hunter J would have an alpha Salamence. In the anime, she did have a normal Salamence but there was not much about alpha species of Pokemon in the original stories so maybe they ignored the fact. But it makes sense why she is not scared of anyone, even attacking a trainer with legendary Pokemon.'
He realized that having such a strong Pokemon gave her the confidence to break rules and cross borders. Gladion also reflected, 'Well, she is underestimating the power of a legendary like I did when I went to fight Moltres.' He remembered his own past mistakes and smiled slightly at the memory. It taught him never to look down on legendary Pokemon.
Before Hunter J could give any command to attack or launch an attack herself, someone spoke to her through her earpiece. She listened carefully for a few seconds and then let out a long sigh.
"We are retreating," Hunter J said in a cold voice. Her Alpha Salamence turned quickly and flew toward one of the jets. The latch on the jet opened up and allowed her to enter safely.
The other members of her hunter team reacted fast too. They recalled their Pokemon and took to the skies with their flying Pokemon and then to the ships.
Gladion watched as the psychic barrier that had trapped him slowly faded away and disappeared completely.
"Wow, I never thought I would see someone really coming in time to rescue someone. Not that I need that but wow. No such thing happens either in real life or even in shows," he mumbled to himself with a surprised laugh.
"Heroes always arrive at the very last second and well police are always late and come after the crime has happened."
He turned to see the jets flying away into the distance. "Do they think that I would let them just run away?" Gladion said with a confident tone.
He looked at Latios and gave a clear order. "Latios, Dragon Pulse."
Latios gathered powerful energy in her mouth. A bright blue ball shot forward and struck one of the escaping ships. The ship tried to create a protective barrier in front of it.
The shield lasted only for a second before it broke apart. The Dragon Pulse collided with the ship and caused a very big explosion. Fire and smoke filled the sky as the ship fell toward the ground. Gladion would be surprised if anyone survived that direct hit.
[The rest of them are going away. Do we go after them?] Latias asked through telepathy. She sounded excited and ready for more action.
"Oh yes, but just to tell them that it was our mercy that let them live," Gladion said. "We will show them that we could have destroyed all of them if we wanted to. But today we choose to let them go. Next time they might not be so lucky. It is important to leave them with fear so they think twice before coming after us again."
Gladion climbed onto Latias's back carefully. Like a sonic jet, she flew away at incredible speed while protecting Gladion with a strong psychic barrier.
In just a second, they were flying right next to one of the jets. Hunter J looked out the window with wide eyes as she saw the legendary Pokemon staring straight at her.
Energy gathered around Latias's mouth for another attack but it then dissipated slowly. Both Latias and Gladion waved at Hunter J and her team.
They even winked together at the same time before turning and flying away as quickly as they had come. Hunter J's face showed both shock and frustration as the jet continued flying toward the border.
Gladion arrived back at the spot where the ambush had started. He saw Koga and Agatha coming toward him along with half a dozen Aura Guardians.
The group looked serious and ready for action. "We were tracking Hunter J's movements since she entered the Indigo region," Koga said. "But we never thought that she would be going after you of all people."
The ninja gym leader sounded surprised by the choice of target. Agatha and the other Aura Guardians looked at the destroyed remains of one of the ships that had crashed earlier. Smoke still rose from the wreckage.
"Ah well, you should be glad it was me she went after," Gladion said with a smile. "Others would not have survived. But do not worry, she will not be coming back for me anytime soon."
He tried to make light of the situation. "I mean, who wants to fight a guy with two legendaries and a mega evolving alpha Tyranitar? She probably realized she picked the wrong gym leader to mess with. Next time she might try someone easier like a water type specialist. At least then she could bring a fishing rod instead of jets."
