The group moved cautiously through the long hallway, the glowing city of black and white to their left casting an ethereal light that flickered through the space. The air was heavy, as if the hallway itself carried the weight of the Underground's history.
First Encounter: Froggit and Whimsun
A Froggit and Whimsun appeared, both trembling slightly but standing their ground.
Froggit: "Ribbit... Once, a human fell into our world. They were not like the others. They were kind, and they loved our prince, Asriel."
Whimsun: "But... they became so ill... so weak... Their soul was strong, but their body... faded away."
The two monsters bowed their heads before disappearing into the light, leaving the children with more questions than answers.
Second Encounter: Loox and Vegetoid
Loox and Vegetoid materialized further down the hallway, their faces unusually somber.
Loox: "When the human passed away, Asriel took their soul... But he didn't do it out of selfishness."
Vegetoid: "He wanted to honor their last wish... to see the golden flowers of the surface once more."
They faded into shimmering particles, the story continuing to tug at the children's thoughts.
Third Encounter: Napstablook
Napstablook emerged from a corner, its transparent body flickering with emotion.
Napstablook: "Asriel crossed the barrier... with the human's body... But when he returned, he was... dying."
Its voice cracked as it disappeared, its sorrow palpable in the still air.
Fourth Encounter: Madjick and Astigmatism
The hallway twisted slightly, leading to two towering monsters—Madjick and Astigmatism.
Astigmatism: "The humans on the surface attacked him. Even though he carried the body of their own kind."
Madjick: "He did not fight back. He would not hurt them. He returned... broken."
The two monsters turned away, their forms dissolving like mist.
Fifth Encounter: Knight Knight and Final Froggit
Closer to the end of the hallway, two imposing figures blocked the path briefly.
Knight Knight: "He collapsed... in the garden of golden flowers. That is where his soul faded."
Final Froggit: "Both kings lost their children that day... Their hopes... their dreams... shattered."
Their voices lingered in the air as they vanished, leaving the children to process the tragic tale.
Sixth Encounter: A Pair of Whimsalots
The final encounter brought two Whimsalots hovering near the great door at the end of the hallway.
Whimsalot 1: "King Asgore was never the same. In his grief, he declared... every human who fell here would die."
Whimsalot 2: "But Queen Toriel could not bear it. She left the castle, retreating to the Ruins, unable to forgive her king... or herself."
The Whimsalots gave a low bow before floating away.
The End of the Hallway
The children finally approached the massive door at the end of the long hallway, their expressions heavy with the weight of the story they had just heard. The city to their left faded into the distance, and the hallway now felt colder, quieter.
They exchanged glances, their thoughts lingering on Toriel's hidden identity and the sorrowful tale of Asriel and the human. Their journey was nearing its end, but the weight of what awaited beyond the door was heavier than ever.
