Chapter 153 - ATTACK ON THE BATCAVE 1.

Arthur could immediately see it and saw another person trapped in that same dimension. To him, it seemed like she was simply trapping them in limbo, or rather, the world between, rather than a dimension of her own making. He knew immediately as he smiled at Harley Quinn. He was her natural bane. 

In a split second, Harley appeared before Arthur with spinning kick at his neck, aiming to relieve Arthur's shoulder of his head. 'It's best to end this threat now! All of us are still getting used to these new transformations and power ups. I can't let him stabilise his understanding.' Harley thought as she went for the kill, Arthur was fast already and even faster after Poseidon's blessing but couldn't keep up with Harley's attack now. 

'Fuck…. I can't guard on time.' Arthur thought, forgetting that he could just teleport at that instant as his neck was freshly presented before the executioner's axe which was Harley's kick. 

Light flashed and Harley was thrown violently across the cave and soon the crackle of thunder followed, then a loud crash. 

"What's with everyone and trying to interrupt me EVERY... SINGLE… TIME…" Harley whined as she got up, her head bowed, while checking herself. 

'My cuties couldn't react fast enough to that?' Harley got up and found a feminine glowing figure before her. She was surprised her familiars who could react quickly and defend, suddenly failed to do so now, maybe it was time to retreat now. 

Thunderstruck through the forming barrier and Artemis, the goddess of the hunt appeared and immediately drew her bow. 

"NOT IN HERE!!!!" Batman warned, but it was too late, it was like a divine mandate set for Harley. Her punishment was set in place, her fate sealed and the executioner, an Olympian from the Greek pantheon. 

"FUCKKK!!!! HOLD DOWN THE BARRIER, ERTIGAN!!!!" Constantine said, communicating through telepathy as blood spilled out of his mouth, nose, eyes and ears. He was at the west wing of the cave while Etrigan, the east. 

"DO YOU THINK I AM PLAYING HERE!!! THESE GODS THAT DON'T COME IN WITHOUT ANNOUNCING THEMSELVES HAVE PUT A STRAIN ON–"

"FUCK THE STRAIN!!!! IF WE DON'T CONTAIN THIS ATTACK, US AND THE CAVE WILL BE REDUCED TO NOTHINGNESS!" Constantine cursed as he used his free hand to draw magic circles with his blood. 

White light filled the cave, an absurdity to the tranquil dark scene of the area, blinding everything in sight. 

"...." Harley's eyes widened as her form was overtaken by the white light. There was no noise, it was deathly silent as the attack landed. Nothing but white light was the effect. 

The cave was completely devastated! Millions of dollars of hardware equipment gone like the dust. Only Artemis remained, hovering above the debris, observing the destruction around her. Her face was stoic, and her eyes shone a golden hue, the same as the bow she drew. 

'Your overconfidence brought about your downfall. You should have continued stabilising yourself and understand your powers completely. You couldn't even sense me from a thousand milestones. You were destined to be purged anyway the moment you fraternised with the usurper.' Artemis closed her eyes in thought as smoke from the destruction below her painted the skies black.

"Brother, how many souls can you collect here?" Artemis said to no one but in the next second she smiled a bit, as if happy with the answer Hermes gave her. 

"The heroes of earth… you are fine guardians indeed." Artemis said as she turned to see Shazam and Beast Boy exiting from a portal with loads of collapsed heroes on their backs. Apparently, Batman had opened a portal, and Beast Boy and Shazam who were the fastest there evacuated the others just before the attack landed, although they didn't succeed unscathed. Even Arthur remembered in the last minute to teleport but still sustained heavy injuries.

"Allow me." Artemis said as she took a pear shaped bead from her bag that hung at her side and broke it. Green mist sipped from it and the heroes were all healed of their afflictions. 

"Fine guardians or not, you destroyed our base of operations, and killed two fine heroes for the sake of taking down one." Batman said with a low growl in his voice, he was referring to John Constantine and Etrigan. The evening sky darkened his expression and he wasn't going to stand on ceremony just because an Olympian intervened. 

"You take the good with the bad. That clown was an acolyte of the usurper as father calls her. The war is at our doorsteps and taking out someone like her is absolutely necessary!" Artemis answered, hovering high above the heroes and looking down on the cratered burnt ground the heroes stood on. Beast Boy was in his beast form, only this time it was a Chimera. It was mostly his gorilla form, only this time, the Gorilla was fourteen-feet tall, with a peregrine falcon wings double the size but folded and powerful cheetah legs and let down the bodies he piled up and the teeth of a sabertooth. 

Shazam also gently dropped the heroes he carried as well and let down Talia and her father with his free arm, while listening to the goddess, half agreeing with her motives. Apart from him, only Beast Boy could tell what Raven was capable of. No, that would wrong, as Beast Boy never once saw Raven or her harem in action unlike what Shazam witnessed that day that still plagued his mind. He didn't like Artemis reason but saw the necessity in her actions. 

'How? How did they survive? I mean my brother told me there was no soul to collect here but I was at least expecting them to be half dead or something. Not that I wasn't going to heal them, but… it seems the heroes are prepared for this.' Artemis thought as she ran a hand through her bow. Her strike was well timed and unannounced, to see the mortals survive the shockwave, albeit with injuries was unprecedented.

"Aren't you supposed to be gods. Is doing your duty and saving the lives of others too difficult?" Batman pressed on, but Artemis aura changed from neutral to nothing as if she weren't there. As a goddess of the hunt, she had learned to mask her intent at her targets which made her deadly in the eyes of Batman who could predict anyone based on their intentions and patterns. 

"You will know your place. Even though you were blessed by uncle, that doesn't mean you won't end up in Hades if I so wish." Artemis said as she let out a breath as if to calm herself. 

"And I never said, I sacrificed anyone. My brother confirmed that no one lost their souls here after all." Artemis said as she pointed in a direction that Batman, Arthur and Shazam felt magic resonance at. 

In burst of light a mansion towered over the heroes and a door opened, "No thanks to you, that is!" John Constantine said, looking bruised and dirty from dried blood on his coat and took a swig from his flask and releasing a sharp breath of alcohol, afterwards. Batman almost let a smile of relief seeing his sorcerer pull a fast one from death, it was no different from the way he had cheated death too multiple times in the past, but he had to admit, the way John did it was quite flashy this time.

"I almost forgot you had the house of mysteries to yourself, where secrets are kept, and the truth hides itself." Etrigan followed suit, he looked bruised, but not worse for wear like his partner. 

'These mortals and their foreign treasures… this is one of the reasons many evils are just attracted to this place. His very soul just repulses me to no end.' Artemis thought as she found the mansion disappeared out of her perception completely. She almost felt like snatching the treasure from John.

"Tch…" Artemis clicked her tongue at the sight of John Constantine and instantly regretted that the healing mist was still active as John and his companion were healed. But upon seeing the demon, her hands quickly drew the bow as an arrow with blinding light appeared. 

"Woahhhh!!! Please… they are our allies." Shazam appeared like lightning before Artemis, lowering the aim of her bow as if telling her stand down. 

"And frankly speaking, I don't want to deal with that again." Shazam's face darkened, his movement surprised everyone there as he was in front of the goddess of the hunt instantly.
