She tried to look calm, but her heart was overflowing with bitterness; scenes from the past kept resurfacing in her mind.
"That's good," Lu Yun breathed a sigh of relief.
Then he started talking about his grand plan.
"Ah Tang, whether it's Gu Muchen or Pei Heyan, we must secure one of them as a backer first. Only then can we father and daughter have a solid support."
Wen Tang nodded her agreement and sent Lu Yun off.
But once back on the top floor, she quickly put it out of her mind.
Lying in bed at night, Pei Heyan pulled her into his arms and asked, and Wen Tang suddenly remembered what Lu Yun had instructed her that day.
"They're just using me as a pawn," she said.
Pei Heyan straightened Wen Tang's body so they were face to face, and with pity in his eyes, he asked, "Why not break off the relationship completely?"
Wen Tang lowered her head.
When she looked at Pei Heyan again, she gave him a firm reply, "I don't want all my efforts to be wasted."
