Chapter 5 - Fear

Vincenzo's POV

I looked through the reports of my warehouses. I had lost a lot of money due to the attack by Nathan fucking Boris. Nathan had no idea what was coming for him.

"Come in," I said when I heard a knock on my office door, looking up from the document I was reading.

"How are you, my baby?" Jason said, flashing me a smirk.

"God, stop calling me that," I told him with a frown.

"What's the fun in that?" he said, smiling. Sometimes I feel like strangling him.

"Did you find out how that son of a bitch Nathan got to know where my warehouse is and still had the guts to blow it up?" I asked.

"I think we have a spy among us, but I'm still working on it," he replied, unfazed.

I wasn't surprised. There was no way Nathan would know unless someone among us told him.

"Who is the traitor?" I asked.

"Still on it," he repeated.

"Good morning, family," Matteo said, barging in like the idiot he was. If not for the fact that we were like family, I would have killed those two fools already.

"Matteo, how many times do I have to tell you to always knock?" I said, annoyed by his behavior.

"Oh, but I knocked. Maybe you guys were too focused on other things to notice," he said, making me even more annoyed.

"Anyhow, I found out who the traitors are," he added.

"Who are they? What do you mean?" I asked darkly.

"It was one of your bodyguards and his girlfriend," Matteo informed me.

I threw the glass cup beside me at the wall.

"Where are they now?" I asked angrily.

"I caught them before they could run to another country. They're in the basement now," Matteo answered, frowning slightly.

"I'm going to kill those fucking traitors," I said, feeling the urge to kill someone rise inside me. I headed to the basement to meet my new toys.

Immediately I entered, I was amused by what I saw.

"Please let my girlfriend go. She has nothing to do with this, sir," he pleaded, weeping like the pathetic bastard he was.

"Now, I'll ask the questions, and you will answer," I said.

"How did you get hold of my warehouse information?"

"I got it the day you asked me to bring you the Russian contract from your table," he replied, pleading with his eyes.

"I knew I was suspicious when you took longer than usual that day, but I don't know what made me forget to ask or investigate," I said angrily at my mistake.

"But don't worry. What else did you give them?" I asked.

"Nothing, sir. That's all I told them, I promise," he said, lying straight to my face.

"Matteo, break three of his fingers for me," I commanded.

His cries of pain filled the room as he begged me to stop, yet he still lied. Pain was like music to my ears. I enjoyed it when they cried or pleaded it made me feel high, like drugs. That was why I always instilled fear in them.

"P-please, sir, I'll answer," I heard his girlfriend cry out.

"He plans to ambush your warehouse in New York, sir," she said.

I chuckled. "Maybe I should talk to your girlfriend after all. She seems more willing to answer."

"She doesn't know anything. I forced her," he said, lying again.

"Your girlfriend helped you steal from me, which makes her guilty in my eyes," I said coldly as he trembled in fear.

"Whether I hurt your girlfriend or not depends on what you say," I bluffed, giving him a choice.

"What should I tell you?" he stammered.

"You will tell me everything you know," I demanded.

"They will kill my girl if I talk," he stuttered.

"And you think I won't kill both of you if you don't talk?" I said. "Maybe I should break your girlfriend's fingers or stab her through the hip. What do you think?"

"Maybe we should cut out his girlfriend's tongue as inspiration?" Jason added, holding his knife toward her.

"No! I'll tell you everything, including his trade location. Just promise to release my girlfriend," he begged.

"Are we making deals here?" I asked. I punched him repeatedly until his girlfriend begged me to stop.

I stopped, picked up a long screwdriver, and stabbed him in the hip.

"I'll do the same to your girl if you don't start talking," I muttered angrily.

"I'll tell you everything," he groaned in pain.

"Talk," I demanded, grabbing a hammer with nails and slamming it into his shoulder. He screamed.

"O-okay," he cried, finally telling me everything I wanted to know.

After hours of pain and confessions, I had heard enough.

"Jason, end his life," I said.

Jason nodded, pulled out his gun, and shot him in the head. He did the same to the girlfriend.

"Get rid of the bodies," I ordered before leaving the basement and heading to my room.

When I entered my room, I saw Halena sitting on the bed, waiting for me. I left her there and went to shower, then changed in my closet.

When I returned, she was still waiting. Whenever I'm with her, I feel myself changing.

I don't like what she makes me feel. That's why I told her to be my maid. From the first moment I saw her at the VIP booth, I knew she was mine. I only used her father's debt to get close to her.

My kitten has grown on me, but I'll never admit it. The day she asked if I was really in the mafia, I was amused she didn't know who I was from the start. Maybe that's why she's so innocent compared to the other girls who have slept with me.

Halena's POV

I was in the kitchen with Sandra, preparing food for the men. We always cooked for Vincenzo and the two men I had first seen with him at the VIP booth Jason and Matteo.

Jason was playful but serious when it came to business. Matteo was the same. They always ate together like family, and I noticed that whenever Vincenzo was with them, he smiled and looked different.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots echoed through the house.

I panicked. I wasn't ready to die. I ran toward my room to hide, but when I looked back, I saw Sandra's body on the floor.

I slowed down, approaching her lifeless body.

That's when I noticed Vincenzo and several men pointing guns at each other.

"Sandra," I cried, dropping to my knees beside her, tears streaming down my face.

"What the hell are you doing, Halena? Get inside now!" Vincenzo hissed.

I ignored him and turned Sandra onto her back.

I screamed and crawled backward in horror. There was a hole in her head. She had been shot.

"You dare come into my mansion, kill my men and my maid, and think you'll leave alive?" Vincenzo said to the man in the middle.

"You killed my brother. Why wouldn't I kill you too?" the man shouted.

"Your brother betrayed me to my enemies, and we don't forgive traitors," Vincenzo said calmly.

"Let me go, and I'll let your maid live," the man said, grabbing me and pointing his gun at my head.

"Shove your deal up your fucked ass. She's my property," Vincenzo snapped.

Sandra was dead, the only friend I had here. I did something I never thought I would do. I bit the man's hand.

"Crazy bitch," he snarled, tightening his grip and unlocking the safety on his gun.

Before he could pull the trigger, Vincenzo shot him twice in the hands.

I fell to the ground, shaking, surrounded by dead bodies, realizing I would have died if not for Vincenzo.

"Take him to the basement. I'll deal with him later. Matteo, show him what it means to barge into our property," Vincenzo ordered.

His eyes turned to me cold and dark. He grabbed my hair and dragged me into the mansion.

"You're hurting me," I sobbed.

He pulled me into his office and slapped me hard across the face. I fell to the ground.

"Stand up," he yelled, throwing a glass at my legs. The shards cut into my skin, and I cried out.

When I didn't move, he grabbed my hair and forced my face up.

"You like disobeying me? Who told you to come outside?" he demanded.

I trembled, trying to push him away, but he didn't budge. He pinned my hands above my head.

"You will never disobey me again. I've been too soft on you that's why you've forgotten who you are," he muttered, kissing the spot he had slapped.

"P-please, let me go," I cried.

After a moment, he sighed and released me.

"Go to our room. And never do what you did again," he warned.

I nodded and ran out.

I locked myself in the bedroom and went straight to the bathroom to shower. I felt abused, broken mentally and emotionally.

Afterward, I curled up on the bed, crying over the nightmare I was living. First, I had to pay my father's debt with my body. Now I had witnessed death, and Sandra, the only friend I had here was gone.
