Chapter 274 - Chapter 274 - Taking One of Them.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Skellige.

...

...

"Wait, Madara, I'm coming with you!" Ciri demanded immediately upon hearing about the Wild Hunt.

Madara paused for a moment, as he was about to leave, and nodded. It would be good for her to meet their enemy, and he would protect her from anything while still on that beach.

"Just don't teleport or use your powers. I don't want them, somehow, to start tracking your magical signature or something like that." Madara said, while Ciri simply nodded.

She didn't even have time to react. As Madara moved, he scooped her up in his arms and headed for the window, jumping. Despite the surprise, she handled it well, staying steady, watching the city approach them with each second in freefall, before Madara quickly braced himself on something and began moving, leaping between houses and heading straight for the sea after passing the docks, keeping Ciri in his arms.

He continued running at high speed across the sea that night. Ciri had already adjusted, getting into a precise carry on his back, holding him tight as they reached Undvik in just a few minutes, returning to the place where the clone had been destroyed further south on the island.

Even before arriving in the area, the frozen beach could be seen, with a mist still somewhat thin, but there was no longer any sign of the elves around there.

Madara arrived in the middle of the place and the area was much colder.

"It's cold." Ciri murmured.

She was still wearing a dress and was about to sleep naked with Madara, so she wasn't even wearing underwear; Madara was quick to remove a coat and hand it to Ciri, while the cold didn't affect Madara, who walked through the area in silence.

"They even took the bodies..." Madara pointed out, dissatisfied. He wanted at least to grab one of the bodies he had killed, but they were quick to remove them from there in about 15 minutes.

"They still defeated your clone?" Ciri asked, pulling the coat around her body, looking at the place and seeing marks of the battle; she was surprised by this, because Madara's clone was extremely powerful, she didn't even know anyone who could handle one of them alone.

"Basically yes, but it was a drained wooden clone. My chakra was already nearly gone after days of being active." Madara commented, looking exactly at where the clone had been destroyed, seeing the scattered wood, since it was a clone made from that element.

"These guys are very strong?" Ciri asked.

"More than most of the monsters we've faced. And certainly much stronger than dealing with bandits or elves of this world." Madara replied. "Still, I handled them using only basic techniques, mostly against the lower soldiers, exterminating several in a few seconds. If the Sharingan hadn't deactivated due to lack of chakra, I certainly would have killed them all without needing to use jutsus." He explained.

Ciri was quite worried. Those were the same ones who had begun chasing her since the loss of control of her powers in northern Kaedwen, when they had left Kaer Morhen to travel. Madara clearly noticed the worried expression on her face.

"Don't worry, Ciri. We'll deal with all of them." he said in a firm tone, while she nodded.

"Yes, we'll deal with them." she said at last, agreeing with her husband.

Before she could say anything else, both Ciri and Madara quickly looked toward a corner, where the space began to distort, before a portal exploded in white light.

A humanoid wearing the same hard, skeletal armor—none other than the very mage who had attacked Madara's clone—appeared as he returned only to check for something else at the site. They had retreated with the bodies, since they did not want to leave traces for the people of that world.

What surprised him was that, as soon as the portal closed, he managed to look around and found two people staring at him in silence, with no reaction other than curiosity in their eyes, not even fear seemed to be present toward the elf.

For a moment, no one said anything, wondering how that boy he had killed earlier was standing there perfectly fine, even though the one before had left no trace, making the elf wonder what was happening... However, what really made him freeze was the sight of the girl.

Her green eyes were familiar, identical to the portrait of the person they were supposed to be chasing. Lara Dorren—according to a girl with the features of Lara's portrait—being her descendant whom they sought, looking for any trace there on those islands, since they had felt her magic there.

And now, before him, stood a young woman with features exactly like Lara's, the same eyes...

Before he could do anything, a foot appeared beside his face and struck him hard, knocking him unconscious the next instant.

"Well, looks like we caught one." Ciri heard Madara say, still a little dazed, while he stood beside the fallen body. The sorcerer's helmet was slightly dented from his kick.

Madara walked over to the staff that had also fallen with the sorcerer's body, picking it up with his hands. Immediately he felt his fingers chill, almost freeze, just by touching it. The pressure of chaotic energy present there was suffocating for anyone else, but Madara took it and pulled a scroll from his belts.

"Let's store this." Madara said, as he placed it into his scroll.

"What will we do with him?" Ciri asked, looking for the first time up close at a member of the Wild Hunt, those who pursued her relentlessly. She couldn't help but feel curious and, at the same time, uneasy in front of that creature.

Madara placed his hand on his chest. The next moment, wood began to grow from that point, wrapping around the body and enclosing it completely in a cocoon, leaving only the head exposed.

"Let's keep him somewhere for now." Madara said before leaping away. He landed heavily on the ground and then made a small cut on his thumb with another finger covered in tiny sparks of lightning. He quickly traced the seals and used the summoning jutsu.

The explosion of smoke revealed a green dragon, who immediately rolled his eyes upon realizing he had been summoned again. He had been trying to leave Skellige when, once more, he was called to the middle of the islands. He easily recognized the place, and of course Madara would summon him there, though he hadn't expected to be called like this.

"What is it now?" he asked, in a frustrated and bored tone.

"Take this body. I want you to put it in that cabin we have by the lake in the forest and keep an eye on him. If he uses anything else to teleport... well, kill him."

It seemed somewhat foolish, but in truth, Madara wanted to run a test: if one had appeared, others might come. He wasn't concerned with extracting information from this one immediately—it wouldn't be worth it. The essential thing was to know whether the creature could escape; that would determine how careful they needed to be in the future. And even if he tried to escape without using that staff—somehow linked to the Mokuton Madara had used to restrain him—they would still have to deal with the dragon.

Ciri stepped away from the body, with the dragon still somewhat annoyed, as he grabbed the fallen body and flew into the sky. The dragon then went on toward the main island.

"You left him like that?" Ciri asked, confused, watching Madara.

"Yes." Madara replied, unconcerned about explaining too much. "In the meantime, how about we do some missions? Blow up the nest and search for the body of someone—or rather, a young woman who ran away. I have two wolves in the forest and I wouldn't want to abandon them there." he said.

"Well, that's not exactly proper for a normal honeymoon, but we aren't exactly normal, are we, husband...?" Ciri said, smiling.

"We're used to it, wife." he replied.

They left the frozen beach and then found the two wolves Madara had used earlier to keep tracking the scent of the young woman. Following the tracks, they found horse prints and a trail that connected to other villages. After a journey that would take hours on horseback—or in Madara's case, carrying Ciri—just a few minutes, they arrived in a town on the other side of a mountain.

Ciri also helped, searching for traces in space and time. The young woman wasn't alone and there was no sign of a kidnapper. She had gone of her own will, and according to the silhouettes Ciri created, she could see her romantically involved with someone...

They moved through the town without drawing attention until they saw her trail stop at one of the houses. They went there and knocked on the door. A young woman—the same from the poster—opened it, cheerful; it seemed she was expecting someone else. When she came face to face with Madara and Ciri, she was surprised, as the two standing before her had unusual appearances.

"Have my parents arrived, Sara!?" exclaimed another young voice, this time male, coming from behind the girl who was still frozen. A young man also walked up to the door and looked stunned at the two visitors.

"Who are you?" he asked, worried and cautious.

"We're looking for this Sara. Your parents put up a poster in the village south of here; they said you had committed suicide and wanted us to find your body." Madara explained. "I didn't question why you supposedly killed yourself, but it seemed you had run away..."

The young woman took a step back, frightened.

"Are you going to take me back? Please, my parents want me to marry old Rubi, a fifty-year-old man!" she begged, trembling with fear. "I love Pedro." she added, while the man beside her—Pedro—took a step forward.

"You're not taking Sara. She's going to marry me. I was going to introduce her to my parents today, until you showed up." Pedro growled, staring at Madara and Ciri. Husband and wife exchanged a glance upon hearing this.

"You said a fifty-year-old man wants to marry you. How old are you?" Ciri asked. The girl before her was younger than she was.

"Sixteen." the young woman replied.

That wasn't something very unusual in this world. In fact, it was more frequent than one might imagine.

"Madara, we can't just ignore this, can we?" Ciri retorted, looking at Madara in a way that told him not to go through with that mission.

Madara wasn't going to carry it out anyway, but he was a little surprised by Ciri's look. She had never given him that look before.

'As they say, women change after marriage…' he thought, and though he laughed internally, he almost smiled right there, but remained calm. Ciri's demand was quite reasonable.

"Let's say I didn't find your body. In fact, we won't even speak to your parents." Madara said to Sara behind Pedro. "Don't trouble yourselves with us anymore, just live quietly. Avoid going back to Sara's village for a while." he finished, stepping back.

Ciri stepped forward, even as Madara was leaving, and looked directly at Sara over Pedro's shoulder.

"You know, I can understand you." Ciri began, in a sincere tone. "If I had been promised to someone who wasn't the man I loved, I would never marry. I would rather run away... I'd even cut my wrists." Ciri said, winking, while the two young people looked stunned at the declaration from the white-haired girl.

"Anyway, he and I over there got married in less than two days. I can say it's a unique moment in a woman's life, so enjoy it well. Good luck with your wedding." she turned around and began to run, while Madara remained with his arms crossed in the middle of the street.

"What was that?" Ciri said with a mischievous smile.

"Nothing much... just the way you acted." he replied.

"And you, 'nothing much'? You had a face like you were about to smile before. I want to know why you did that earlier." she asked.

"I don't know what you're talking about." he shrugged.

"You were about to laugh, I just don't know why." she muttered with curiosity, while Madara kept walking and Ciri followed right behind him.

"Come on, tell me." she insisted.

"As I said, I don't know what you're talking about." Madara replied, while she clenched her fists right behind him, unwilling to accept that as an answer.

In another field, where several nekkers were returning to their nest, a kunai tore through the air at high speed and landed inside the nest of small monsters, before igniting an explosive tag. A blast simply devastated the nest along with the nekkers, exterminating all the monsters in a single move.

The next moment, Ciri and Madara were on the coast of the same island.

"So should we go to the lake where our prisoner is... or return to the castle?" he asked, as Ciri approached him and touched his chest.

"How about we spend the night under the open sky and just pick up where we left off in our room? I like the idea of making love under the stars." she said with a mischievous smile, while Madara grabbed her by the waist and pulled her toward him.
