Chapter 276 - Chapter 276 - The Vampire’s Farewell.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Skellige.

...

"Well, it seems like you two were having fun." Yennefer refrained from commenting further in front of the two at dinner in the castle, after they had been out all day.

Ciri, upon hearing that, smiled, while Madara remained calm as he sat down, looking rather bored.

"Nothing much. We just hunted a few elves from other worlds... and Madara trying to get me pregnant," she said in a bored tone, but with a small laugh afterward, as if she couldn't stand hearing her own joke.

That made Geralt, who had been drinking, spit out his beverage. Yennefer grimaced; both had even forgotten about the elf part. Madara narrowed his eyes at his wife, while Ciri started laughing, bursting out at everyone's faces staring at her after that.

"Calm down, it's just a joke! I'm kidding," she said defensively.

"You shouldn't say things like that, Ciri," Yennefer said in a serious tone.

"Ah, relax, it's just the four of us here. It's not like it's some secret that my husband and I are on our honeymoon," she said, shrugging.

"Even so, I agree with Yennefer," Geralt replied with a serious tone and a certain distaste. Even Madara felt the disapproving gaze, as if he shouldn't even be doing such things with Ciri.

Madara just huffed. What did that witcher mean with that look? They're a couple, and it's normal for husband and wife to have sex, especially considering Ciri wants to keep doing it most of the time.

"Well, look who's here!" It was at that moment that Mousesack approached them with open arms.

"Grandpa!" greeted Ciri, as the man stopped beside the table.

"Where have you been all day? I couldn't find you anywhere. And I was told you'd be away," he said.

"Some things happened and we had to stay out all day. Is it alright if we continue the book tomorrow?" said Madara, while Mousesack nodded.

"Of course. Don't you want to sit at the main table?" he asked.

Both shook their heads, knowing that Yennefer and Geralt were already there, and they didn't want to leave now that they were sitting together.

"We'll be fine here, thank you, Mousesack," said Madara, as the old druid nodded with a smile.

"Alright," said the man, heading to the main table to wait for the king to arrive.

"Kindness suits you. Would you like to stay with us, or would you rather join the king?" Yennefer asked with an amused smile, resting her hand on her chin and staring at the young couple.

"We're a family, aren't we?" Madara replied, taking a piece of meat.

"That's true, we're a family," Ciri agreed, broadening her smile.

Geralt raised an eyebrow as he exchanged a glance with Yennefer.

"That's very kind of you to say," he said, still raising his eyebrow, with a tone that carried an emotion both Madara and Ciri noticed.

"We could say you're our parents... No, wait, that would be really weird," she muttered, laughing. "Maybe let's say it like this — my father is Geralt, and Yennefer is my husband's mother, who then met and fell in love with each other," she said with an amused smile.

"You certainly have a vivid imagination, Ciri," Yennefer murmured, staring at the silly girl, who looked excited and clearly wasn't done yet.

"We could also make up a story where Dad was a single man after the war, raising his only daughter. While we lived in the village, Madara was a lonely boy who liked to train. I asked him to teach me, we started to like each other, and finally, he came to ask for my hand. Madara's mother wanted to meet the bride's family, and you already knew each other!" she began slowly, bursting into laughter with every word.

"Ciri, you're not drunk, are you?" Geralt said in a serious tone, his expression suspicious.

"Of course not! But maybe I could be, who knows... pregnant? Since my mood is quite volatile!" she said dramatically, as Yennefer and Geralt raised their eyebrows. The girl was more restless than usual — truly talking nonsense. Madara stared at her with one eyebrow raised.

"What is it, husband?" Ciri immediately threw herself into Madara's arms, holding him tightly as she played around with him. "If I happen to have a child, I hope you'll be a responsible husband! It's your responsibility!" she said, while Madara shook his head, telling her she was being silly.

"If I hadn't spent the whole day with you, I'd say you're drunk, Ciri," Madara teased her volatile behavior.

"I'm just happy," she said with a little laugh, touching her own belly to keep the joke going. "But it wouldn't be bad to have a child," she said, still laughing — until her eyes suddenly widened and shimmered strangely before returning to normal. She stopped laughing as everyone stared at her.

"Hey, it's a joke! A joke!" she muttered, trying to defuse the attention, her stomach already hurting from laughing so hard, drawing the attention of every other table and person around them. Yennefer shook her head, finding her behavior quite improper.

Madara just looked at her but said nothing.

"Well, anyway, let's eat. You're already eating without me? Give me a piece of that!" she said again, quickly grabbing the fork and spearing the meat from Madara's plate, pulling it toward herself. He said nothing, just placed the plate between them, and Ciri thanked him with a smile as they ate from the same dish.

After a while, Triss, Zoltan, and Dandelion showed up, arriving later with the noise of the bard's songs filling the place, after Dandelion had bought a new lute — since his old one was still borrowed. He began to play that night, livening up the atmosphere.

King Bran and his family came shortly after, greeting Madara, Ciri, and the others enthusiastically before returning to the main table to join Mousesack. He didn't invite Madara and Ciri to join them, since the couple seemed perfectly content where they were.

"You know, I was thinking... what about Eleonor? What do you think she's up to?" Ciri asked as they finished eating, curious about the vampire. Even Madara seemed intrigued. Eleonor had just avenged her daughter; she didn't seem to have any reason to live after that, since her entire existence had revolved around vengeance.

Madara and even Ciri, who had formed a bond with her because of what they had gone through together, wanted to know what the vampire would do now that her daughter had been avenged — especially since she was practically immortal.

"We could go see her tomorrow, what do you think?" Ciri asked calmly, looking at Madara, since Eleonor hadn't appeared at the castle since the wedding.

In the end, they talked a little more. Ciri no longer made exaggerated jokes as before, but she still had fun and chatted cheerfully with everyone, while Madara kept his calm and reserved demeanor, participating in the conversation in his usual quiet way.

Later that night, Ciri lay on the bed, sweaty after another intense session of lovemaking between the two. She looked at him with a smile, lying beside the pillow.

"So..." Madara began, reaching for her face and gently sliding his fingers along her skin as he looked at her. Ciri smiled and snuggled against his chest.

"What is it?" she asked, lifting her eyes.

"What did you see?" he asked.

"What do you mean by that?" she replied, but Madara could see her eyes trembling slightly.

"You had some kind of vision of the future during dinner, didn't you? What happened?"

"Nothing important, just nonsense," she said quickly, lowering her eyes and pressing her face against his chest.

"Ciri..." Madara murmured, trying to sound more stern, but she didn't respond. He waited, in silence, but she simply stayed there, resting against his chest, until she fell asleep.

Madara sighed. He would get that information out of her the next day. In the meantime, he watched the girl sleep, a small smile on her face, as if she were having a pleasant dream.

The next day, they spent some time with Mousesack, and by noon, they went to the city. They managed to stop by the tavern where Eleonor had been staying, but Madara quickly went upstairs and came back down soon after.

"She's not here," he said.

"What do you mean she left without telling us?" Ciri asked in a hurt tone.

"Maybe... Let's ask the owner."

With that, they entered the tavern and went straight to the counter. The man had been watching them since the moment they arrived, until his eyes widened when he recognized them.

"Hello. We're looking for a guest with red hair named Eleonor. She was on the second floor, in the room with the window facing the harbor," Madara said.

"Ah, of course! She told me someone might come asking about her and asked me to deliver a note. Just a moment. She even paid me for it, so I kept it safe," the man replied, quickly heading toward what seemed to be the kitchen, while Madara and Ciri exchanged a silent look.

A minute later, he returned with a small parchment rolled up in a ribbon. Ciri took it and began to read.

"I bet Madara will come to the tavern looking for me, and this is the answer I have. I'm leaving the islands and returning to the continent. I wanted first to congratulate you on your marriage to the girl — she's completely in love. Take good care of her."

Ciri let out a small laugh and handed the note directly to Madara, since Eleonor had clearly written it straightforwardly, expecting him to be the one to look for her. Madara then read it.

"Anyway, I'm leaving the continent and intend to travel. I want to do some things, to decide what to do now that my purpose is over and my daughter avenged. I ask forgiveness for not saying goodbye to you, but I need to go. I hope to meet you again someday. I want to thank you for the vengeance and for helping me allow my daughter to rest in peace.

With the greatest pleasure,

Eleonor."

Madara finished reading, and Ciri looked a little downcast, her arms falling to her sides.

"It's a shame she left like that... I wanted to get to know her better," Ciri murmured.

"I'm sure it won't be the last time we meet. Destiny has strange ways of making paths cross," Madara replied, making Ciri look at him with mild skepticism.

"You, talking about destiny, Madara? Who are you, and what did you do with my husband?" she retorted, huffing as they began to leave the tavern.

"Trust me, Ciri... I wouldn't bet against destiny. Anywhere else, maybe. But in this world, things are dangerous and sometimes predestined — beyond our control," Madara replied. Even he didn't know if he could defy destiny; perhaps with all his power, he might have a chance. But he knew that going against a force capable of shaping reality itself could be reckless at times — the same force that bound him and Ciri, or Ciri and Geralt, strong enough to destroy Cintra just to bring Geralt and Ciri's paths together.

"Well, I can't really complain," she said, laughing, as Madara suddenly caught her by surprise and lifted her into the air, making her scream like a girl when he threw her up onto a rooftop before leaping up beside her.

"We've got a few hours before we go back to Mousesack's lab. Want to do something?" he asked.

"How about a horseback ride?" she replied.

"Alright, let's go get some horses then," he said, as they continued jumping across the rooftops of the city.
