Third Person POV
Skellige.
...
...
A month had passed since Madara and Ciri had a brief conversation about becoming parents, something completely unplanned. They still hadn't decided to leave Skellige, while they were still guests and under King Bran's protection.
Madara had been training all the time in his free hours. He had been working on new jutsus, both within his chakra control — expanding his arsenal of elemental jutsus with his four elements — and on those he wanted to develop on his own.
The Rasengan was easy to develop. Madara had an enviable chakra control, and it was easy for him to create it. Even though using the Rasengan wasn't really his style, it could be useful at times.
The Hiraishin, however, was something he hadn't managed to develop yet. He sought information about space, but working with it through chakra — even with Yennefer and Triss sharing their somewhat limited knowledge, since sorceresses used portals for transportation — was still not enough.
Tired of making no progress with the Hiraishin, he decided to start working on the Edo Tensei. He knew it was certainly not a pleasant area, nor naturally acceptable — meddling with the natural laws of worlds and the spirits of the realm of the dead, violating their rest, was something terrible.
Even so, Madara didn't refrain from starting his research. He wanted to develop that jutsu, since it could be very useful.
For that reason, he went to Yennefer, who understood necromancy. "Are you serious, Madara?" Yennefer stammered slightly as she looked at him with a certain tension.
"Yes. I know you have knowledge of necromancy. I need to know everything about it. I want to understand how the line between life and death of the spirits of this world works," said Madara.
He didn't just have the challenge of understanding how to bring back the soul of a being that didn't possess chakra at all, since the Edo Tensei should work through searching for an individual's chakra in the impure world.
The only ones he had found who still had chakra were those hunters from the midst of the war, but their bodies had been disintegrated when he used the sword to deliver the final blow. They had practically been erased, since Madara's Susanoo sword could destroy everything in the universe — according to the words of the original Madara himself, after he summoned the complete Susanoo against the Five Kage.
He also needed to understand how the spiritual world functioned in that place. There was necromancy — Yennefer had already done it in The Witcher 3, so she could help him with that before he began working and trying to be a new Tobirama, creating a jutsu that shouldn't work in that world.
"Why do you want to know that?" Yennefer asked cautiously.
"I need to understand. That's all you need to know," Madara replied, not wanting to reveal anything else.
Yennefer looked at him suspiciously, but sighed and nodded.
"All right. I can share my knowledge of necromancy with you, whatever it is you plan to do with it. But please, don't do anything crazy near Ciri," she said in a warning tone, while Madara rolled his eyes.
"You think I'd risk Ciri's life right now? She's pregnant with my child, Yennefer. If I need to give you more reasons than that, I don't know what else to say," Madara huffed, while Yennefer's eyes softened a little. Obviously, she was worried about the child growing in Ciri's womb, and Madara was right.
When Madara and Ciri met a month ago to talk for the first time on that deck, Yennefer had already found out, as Ciri had been spending time with her and Triss. That had led to a rather long discussion about whether she would really tell him that same night, after Yennefer had scolded Ciri for not informing the father yet.
It was obvious she was pregnant to the sorceress. Even Mousesack and Madara had already noticed from Ciri's strange behavior. That's why Madara confronted her.
At the same time, Yennefer and Triss were both quite excited and cautious, analyzing young Ciri that day. They were happy with the idea that Ciri would have a child with Madara. They said they would help her with whatever she needed, that she wouldn't be alone, and that, no matter how powerful Madara was, he would still need a woman's help. Yet, the idea of a child also brought concern.
Ciri and Madara ended up having sex after arguing about the child until late into the night, when they decided they would inform Geralt, since Yennefer had said she wouldn't say anything yet and that Ciri needed to be the one to tell him. It was certainly a memorable moment.
'I'm pregnant, father,' Ciri said at the time, while they were on one of the castle's balconies, far from any curious ears.
Geralt had stared at Ciri's face as if he hadn't heard her properly, as if he'd misunderstood.
'What?' he murmured, while Yennefer smiled, and Madara couldn't help but slightly curve his lips as well, crossing his arms at the witcher's astonished look. Ciri let out a nervous giggle.
'I'm pregnant. Madara and I are going to have a child. And it will be a boy,' she said, as she had glimpsed the future for a moment and saw a child with black hair being nursed by her at her breast. She hadn't seen much, just a flash — but it was enough to understand what that image represented.
Madara had tried to get that information out of her ever since he knew she was hiding something, but Ciri had been stubborn. He hadn't wanted a child at that moment, but as she herself had said, 'things like that happen.' So there was nothing more to be done. If the child was on the way, they needed to be responsible and take care of him together with the mother, even if it hadn't been planned.
Ciri's pregnancy was clearly something that needed to be kept secret. She couldn't appear pregnant now, as the child could be used against them. So, the secret could never be revealed to the world.
They still had a plan: they could travel together and find a place to stay until Ciri gave birth to the boy.
Back to the present, Yennefer faced Madara with her arms crossed.
"I know you won't try to do anything dangerous near Ciri, but the problem isn't you. You need to be careful with her too, because she follows you all the time and always teleports to wherever you are. I don't want to see her teleporting in the middle of a ritual with that kind of dark magic, whatever it is you're going to do," Yennefer grumbled.
Madara raised an eyebrow. It wasn't exactly a ritual he intended to perform, but she had a valid point.
"I'll handle that, Yennefer. Anyway, can I count on you? Can you give me your knowledge about necromancy?" he asked.
She huffed but nodded. "All right. Go, do what you need to do," Yennefer said.
Madara nodded and quickly activated his Sharingan, penetrating the sorceress's mind. He didn't drain all her knowledge as he had done with the elf from Aen Elle; he had discovered a rather interesting function in his eyes — his Sharingan could absorb information as he wished.
He could accumulate knowledge from all the minds he entered. That would be terrifying for anyone who knew about such an ability. Not even he himself had known that his Sharingan could do that — or, at least, his was special enough for such a thing. Not even the original Madara had possessed something like that, because if that were the case, imagine what kind of monster he would have become — even more powerful than he already was in the ninja world if he started absorbing knowledge with just one look from those who met his gaze.
Absorbing minds, memories, and accumulated knowledge to create even more powerful things was truly terrifying. With greater knowledge came more clarity, creativity, and depth of perception and analysis.
Unfortunately, there were no shinobi in that world from whom he could begin absorbing all the accumulated experiences of their lives; there were only magic users and warriors. Madara wasn't exactly a mage, and he was far more powerful than any of them just by holding a small splinter of wood between his fingers.
Another innate ability of his Sharingan was that he could transmit knowledge to other people in a certain way. Ciri, for example, had learned the entire language of the elves of Aen Elle in just a month, training three hours a day with him, while Madara directly sent information into her mind and they practiced afterward.
It wasn't something simple to do, but little by little, he managed to transmit his knowledge. That's why Ciri had been able to master their language and even exchanged words with Madara — it was a way for them to hold private conversations without anyone knowing what they were saying.
This led to several conversations about the child growing in her womb, while people looked at them strangely for speaking an unfamiliar language. But it was the best way for them not to be disturbed and to talk openly about the child they would have.
Besides passing information to Ciri, Madara had also started documenting the elves' language with Mousesack. He sent data directly into the druid's mind with the Sharingan, just as he had done with Ciri. And although Mousesack hadn't yet absorbed all the information, he already knew a good portion of the language — he was learning much faster than Ciri, who was rather stubborn and lazy when it came to matters of the mind, especially now with her hormonal changes resembling a roller coaster and the constant waves of nausea that began after the fourth week of pregnancy. She was already in her sixth week of gestation.
After retrieving the information from Yennefer's mind, Madara exited her consciousness after about twenty seconds — a longer time than usual to absorb knowledge. He was more careful because he cared about the sorceress's mind and wanted to preserve it. He also didn't want to see anything unnecessary. He avoided any memories where Yennefer might be having sex with Geralt, keeping his distance from them entirely.
"Interesting," Madara murmured, organizing the knowledge he had received, while Yennefer blinked a few times, a bit dizzy.
"Can you get those books whose names you've stored in your mind?" he asked.
Yennefer wasn't an expert in necromancy, but she was certainly an entryway into that type of magic. She herself knew how to perform certain spells, like reviving a being who had just died — but when she did, it made her soul shudder in pain while the very victim begged her to stop.
Even so, Yennefer had several plans to study that kind of magic more deeply. She had a list of books she needed to read, and Madara was immediately interested, wanting to delve deeper as well.
"You want those books..." Yennefer murmured after regaining her composure. "I can get them from Tissaia. She certainly won't be happy about it — and she would never give me that material if she knew it would end up in your hands, since she's been afraid of you ever since what you did in the war. She even came to your wedding just to see if you could become even more dangerous."
Madara shrugged; he knew that.
"Besides, I'm interested in necromancers. There must be some on the continent, right?" he asked.
Necromancers were supposed to be rare. The magic of the undead was practiced by only a few sorcerers who had succumbed to that kind of power. It was a vile, malevolent art... but also a field of study.
Madara knew that probing a necromancer's mind could help him develop Edo Tensei even faster.
"Yes, but I'm a little worried about what you want with that, Madara," she said, uneasy about his ideas of reading forbidden books and seeking sorcerers who used that kind of magic... What did he want with all that? "I just hope you don't lose yourself in those paths," she said seriously. She didn't like the interest he was showing in necromancy.
"It's not like I'm going to revive a crowd of the dead and start a new war. I've had enough experience with that Lich I faced at Sodden Hill — that was the closest thing to it. But I want to use this art for something else — something that will allow me to protect the child growing in Ciri's womb," he replied.
Yennefer seemed to agree as soon as she heard that. She had also become quite protective of the child and spoiled Ciri more than Geralt and Madara liked, but if Madara's intention was to protect his son with that, who was she to deny him the knowledge he sought? Especially knowing he hadn't revealed anything about Edo Tensei.
"All right, I'll get the books and gather information from some necromancers, Madara," she said finally.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, you know King Bran is waiting for me," said Madara, and Yennefer nodded as he headed toward the other side of the castle.
He found King Bran arguing with Mousesack in a private room. Madara entered silently, even though the guards had orders to let him through. He came in without anyone hearing, closed the door, and approached them, catching both men by surprise.
"Madara, you're here!" said Mousesack, rising to his feet.
"Hello, boy! You finally arrived," greeted King Bran with a smile.
"Of course. We need to discuss this matter among ourselves. I'll pass the information to Ciri later, along with Yennefer and Geralt, but aside from the four of us — me, Ciri, Yennefer, Geralt, you, Mousesack, and King Bran — no one else must know that Ciri is pregnant," Madara said in a serious tone. Even before the King of Skellige and the royal druid, his voice carried a firmness that made it clear he would accept no objections.
"That's obvious, boy. You are my guests, and Skellige and Cintra have always been allies — we're friends. Cintra's lineage is about to continue through this child. We know the mortal danger she faces, considering who her parents are. You have my word: not only will I keep this secret, but you will also have Skellige's protection, no matter what happens," declared King Bran solemnly.
Madara nodded, satisfied with the response, and the three began a small meeting.
