"What is this?"
As Jiang Chen unsheathed the longsword, a flicker of curiosity flashed across Jiang Xi's face. Her gaze lingered on the weapon, taking in its dignified aura and ancient craftsmanship.
"This is the Kaiōshin Sword," Jiang Chen said, his tone calm and tinged with reverence. "It's a divine relic passed down through generations of Supreme Kais. It's said that whoever draws it shall awaken unimaginable power."
Jiang Xi's eyes widened. "The Kaiōshin Sword? Unimaginable power?"
She looked at him with excitement brimming in her voice. "Brother, do you feel anything? Is the power surging through you now?"
Jiang Chen chuckled, flashing a half-smile.
"Nope. It's just a legend." With that, he pressed his left hand firmly on the sword's hilt.
"Crack!"
A violent surge of energy erupted, golden aura bursting outward as Jiang Chen's hair spiked up in a flash of transformation. In an instant, he became a Super Saiyan, the sheer force shaking the ground beneath them.
Then, under Jiang Xi's astonished gaze, a creaking sound came from the sword, which was already strained under the pressure.
Snap!
The divine blade fractured in two.
"Brother, you---!" Jiang Xi instinctively stepped forward, stunned. But before she could speak, the air around them shifted.
A strange energy cloaked the area. Space trembled faintly, and a figure emerged from the void, hazy and slow, as if waking from a long slumber.
"I am finally free…" A lazy, almost bored voice echoed through the clearing.
"Who are you?" Jiang Xi asked, startled. Her wariness rose. Oddly, the figure emitted no energy signature, no ki, no divine presence. Nothing.
"Me? Hmm... if I remember right, I'm the Supreme Kai from about fifteen generations ago," The figure muttered while scratching his head. "And who might you two be?"
He peered closely at them, brow furrowed. "You don't feel like Kaiōshin to me… You're not the new ones, are you?"
His voice held genuine confusion as he spoke. Jiang Chen stepped forward protectively, shielding Jiang Xi from the old Kai's wandering eyes.
"Ancient Kaiōshin, you're right. We aren't Supreme Kais. In fact... if I'm not mistaken, all the current Kaiōshin of this era are dead."
"What?!" The old Kai's expression twisted in shock. He shot upright, eyes wide. "Dead? All of them?!"
"Yes," Jiang Chen said seriously. "Roughly a million years ago, a monster named Majin Buu emerged from the depths of the universe. Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction, should've been in hibernation at that time. During that chaos, four of the five Supreme Kais perished, either by Buu's hand or due to collateral destruction. Only the youngest East Kaiōshin survived."
"But even he… was recently killed. Also by Majin Buu."
Jiang Chen had confirmed it after consulting the Book of Time. The pages had clearly recorded the death of the East Kaiōshin.
"This is bad. This is very bad…" The old Kaiōshin's face turned grim. He began pacing, mumbling to himself as he tried to process the news.
"The fall of the Kaiōshin… That means the God of Destruction is gone too. The divine balance is shattered. This universe is teetering on collapse…"
His voice grew more agitated with every word. His brows were furrowed deeply now, sweat forming at his temples. To think that the first thing he'd encounter after finally being unsealed… would be the complete breakdown of divine order.
Without a Supreme Kai, the Destruction God couldn't exist. Without a Destruction God, chaos reigned unchecked.
The Seventh Universe was in deep trouble.
Only one thing kept total annihilation at bay, Zen'ō, the King of All, likely hadn't noticed the imbalance yet.
If he did… the universe would be erased with a flick of his finger.
Jiang Chen silently observed the old Kaiōshin, letting him unravel in his own panic. Meanwhile, Jiang Xi tilted her head and leaned closer to her brother. "Brother, is he really a Supreme Kai?"
"Why doesn't he feel powerful at all?"
Jiang Chen replied softly, "The Kaiōshin aren't gods of war. They're gods of creation, balance, and life. Their strength doesn't lie in battle, but in divine law and cosmic order."
Jiang Xi blinked, digesting the information. "Ah… I see."
"No, no, no!" The old Kai suddenly shouted, snapping out of his thoughts. "This won't do! Time's running out!"
He looked at the siblings, eyes flickering with new resolve.
"Hey, kid," He said to Jiang Chen. "Ever thought of becoming a Kaiōshin?"
His voice was serious now with no trace of laziness in it. "It's the highest rank a spiritual god can hold. The protector of existence itself."
His gaze moved between Jiang Chen and Jiang Xi. "You two… may be the only hope left."
The ancient Supreme Kai had already made up his mind.
Jiang Chen radiated a divine aura, calm, balanced, and unmistakably the presence of a spiritual god. It was the kind of energy befitting a Supreme Kai. In contrast, Jiang Xi's ki was fierce and untamed, brimming with raw destruction, making her a natural candidate for a God of Destruction.
While the old Kaiōshin didn't have the authority to appoint a new God of Destruction himself, he could at least attempt to send Jiang Xi to the God of Destruction's realm. If she resonated with the divine energy there, she might be acknowledged by the divine laws and inherit the mantle.
If everything worked out, the Seventh Universe would once again have both a Supreme Kai and a God of Destruction, a divine balance restored in one decisive move.
"Old Kaiōshin, I'm afraid that won't work," Jiang Chen said with a chuckle, noticing the old Kaiōshin's theatrical expression.
He could see right through the elder's intentions, but he had no desire to accept the role, and even if he did, the truth was, he couldn't.
"What's the matter?" The old Kaiōshin asked, puzzled. "You're refusing? I wasn't joking, you know. The title of Supreme Kai is the highest spiritual office in the entire universe!"
The old Kaiōshin was getting flustered, clearly taken aback by Jiang Chen's calm rejection.
"Please don't misunderstand," Jiang Chen said with a polite smile. "I hold no disdain for the Supreme Kai. It's just that I'm not native to this timeline or dimension. I'm not from this space-time at all. I simply can't take the role of Supreme Kai in a reality that isn't mine. Compared to me, my sister is the better choice. She belongs to this timeline, to this universe."
He spoke with clarity, laying out the truth without arrogance.
Timelines had their own governing rules, and as someone from an alternate reality, Jiang Chen couldn't entangle himself too deeply in this world's divine structure. If he accepted the mantle, it might destabilize this universe's space-time continuity.
"You're… not from this timeline?" The old Kaiōshin blinked, stunned. His gaze sharpened as he studied Jiang Chen more closely.
As a former Supreme Kai, he understood the multiverse theory well enough. But he hadn't imagined the man before him was truly from a different branch of time altogether.
"Yes," Jiang Chen replied with a nod. "I'm from the Seventh Universe, but from the third iteration of its space-time."
The elder's face fell into a contemplative frown.
"I see…"
Though disappointed, the old Kaiōshin gave a slow nod.
"Still, your sister… she may truly be the right one."
"As for the God of Destruction, there's no need to panic," Jiang Chen added. "The Sixth and Seventh Universes still possess the Super Dragon Balls created by the Dragon God Zalama. If we collect them, we should be able to bring Beerus back."
He spoke casually, but every word struck like thunder in the elder's ears.
