Chapter 551 - Chapter 0552:I Caught a Larvitar

The Rotom Pokédex hovered midair, announcing:

"Larvitar. The Rock Skin Pokémon. Pre-evolved form of the pseudo-legendary Tyranitar."

"Possesses an enormous appetite. Will devour entire mountains. Rotom!"

Natsume massaged his temples. "Little Rotom, mute mode."

"System overload, Rotto... (⊙x⊙;)"

Crunch. Crunch.

"Larvitar~" Larvitar kept chewing eggshell fragments, occasionally blinking.

After swallowing everything, it shyly glanced at the group, placing small hands on its belly.

Gurururu—

Red tint surfaced beneath Larvitar's eye markings as its gaze darted about before murmuring:

"Larvitar~"

Its reptilian body had stony green skin with a blunt horn. Red eyes constantly scanned for food while tiny claws rested on crimson abdominal scales.

"Seems like quite the timid little one," Green observed cheerfully.

"Strange. Shouldn't it have inherited Natsume-sensei's personality?" Gold rubbed his chin, perplexed.

Natsume felt conflicted.

If anything, it'd take after Sirfetch'd.

The newborn's skittishness made sense then.

Though its appetite certainly didn't hold back...

"Talk later." Natsume ended the livestream. "Need to find food first."

Otherwise, he fully expected the hungry Larvitar to start gnawing on the foundation.

"Come to me for minerals anytime~" Green teased behind her hand.

"Speaking of minerals," Wallace added, "Steven has quite the collection."

Green froze, then despaired.

No way to compete with Mr. Steven!

Natsume shared her sentiment.

No way to afford Steven's collection!

Meanwhile, Larvitar examined its new companions.

"Sirfetch'd! (′︿‵)" The leek-wielder wept emotionally.

I raised this child myself!

"Larvitar~" Larvitar scratched its horn, smiling shyly.

"Gengar!" Gengar grinned, patting Larvitar's head. As the hatchling looked up, Gengar offered a golden Pokéblock.

Larvitar froze. Then its mouth slowly opened, eyes shimmering with emotion.

"Larvitar~!"

It gulped the treat whole—container included.

Gengar: Σ(っ°Д°;)っ

"Larvitar~( ̄~ ̄)"

Crunch. Crunch.

Glass shards echoed as Larvitar chewed.

Instantly, the other Pokémon got competitive.

Togepi offered chips. Larvitar ate the unopened bag, making Togepi gasp.

"Togepi~"

"Larvitar!" Larvitar spat out the crumpled wrapper.

Blastoise adjusted sunglasses, offering Revival Herbs. Larvitar gulped them without flinching.

"Blastoise..." Blastoise nodded approvingly.

Natsume's eye twitched.

Are you all testing what it can digest?

"Stop feeding it random things!" he scolded. "Sylveon, put down the Roomba!"

"Sylveon~" Sylveon sheepishly retracted its ribbons.

Sirfetch'd tried hiding its leek, but Larvitar's gaze locked onto the tasty stalk:

"Larvitar~"

"Sirfetch'd! (′︿‵)" As the sirfetch'd agonized...

"Larvitar(°□°)"

Arcanine happily tried offering its Rainbow Wing—

Natsume barely intercepted it, sighing deeply.

With Larvitar hatched... chaos was guaranteed.

As for consuming entire mines...

"Can afford it if we budget... probably."

Natsume sighed internally.

I thought I'd become a capitalist… yet somehow, I keep straying further down the path of a Trainer.

Still, once you've formed a bond with a Pokémon, you have to take responsibility.

Even if it has poor potential, struggles in battle, or is a bit of a slacker… (Natsume-sensei's lips curl into a wild grin) you've gotta raise it!

Otherwise, how am I any different from that Paul?

"Larvitar~"

Larvitar had been very well-behaved, never actively chewing on the walls—just resting its tiny hands in front of its chest, quietly waiting to be fed.

The diamond-shaped red scales on its body gave off the vibe of a rookie's napkin.

Is it a quiet girl?

Natsume pondered as he opened the long-unused System functions.

"I forgot this thing even existed," Natsume complained.

[Larvitar, Rock/Ground

Gender: ♂

Ability: Guts

Moves: Tackle, Leer, Curse]

Natsume: "Oh… it's a cute boy."

The stats weren't anything special, but inheriting Curse was oddly fitting for Natsume.

Right now, the more pressing matter was solving Larvitar's diet.

Natsume crouched down, resting a hand on Larvitar's green, blunt horn.

"Larvitar?" Larvitar pressed its hands together, blinking.

"I can't promise you'll eat your fill every meal… but if I have even a bite, I won't let you starve."

As he spoke, Natsume felt a pang of melancholy and coughed awkwardly before adding:

"Of course… if you'd prefer the wild, I'd be willing to return you to the preserve."

Natsume watched the slightly shy Larvitar—its scar-like black markings and crimson eyes filled with innocence and helplessness.

This newborn was about to make its first life-altering choice.

Is this too cruel?

Natsume shook his head with a quiet laugh. "We'll talk about it later. Let's eat first!"

Instantly, the previously tense little ones erupted into cheerful cries.

They didn't seem opposed to the new member—if anything, a Larvitar that "could eat anything" would be an adorable junior.

"Togepi doo-ee~" Togepi was thrilled at the idea of becoming a big sister.

"Sirfetch'd!" Sirfetch'd wore a stern expression.

Let Larvitar choose its own path… unlike me, forced into training every day…

"Sirfetch'd! (′︿‵)" Sirfetch'd's daily emotional breakdown.

"Larvitar" Larvitar looked around at the whole family.

It didn't have grand ambitions—"As long as I get to eat" was its instinctive thought.

Battling didn't matter much either. It just naturally felt drawn to this young man.

For his sake… if winning means food, then getting stronger is worth it, right?

"Larvitar~" Larvitar yawned widely, then scratched its blunt horn sheepishly.

Natsume smiled faintly.

A baby Tyranitar's appetite shouldn't be too big… right?

Soon, Natsume would pay dearly for this foolish thought.

"Larvitar~( ̄~ ̄)" Larvitar shoveled a mountain of rice into its mouth, cheeks bulging as it chewed.

Natsume's eye twitched.

Are you Konata?! Why are you so skilled at this?!

"Should I cook another pot?" Rotom (Rice Cooker Form) asked.

Natsume nodded. "Do we have any rice left?"

"It won't last until tomorrow, Rotom!"

Natsume's expression darkened.

Natsume's house has no reserves!

Tomorrow, I'll ask Steven. Eating ores should fill Larvitar faster!

Just as Natsume sighed, Larvitar looked up at him, blinking.

Natsume paused, then tentatively pulled out a Poké Ball—the black-and-green Dusk Ball.

"Larvitar!" Larvitar's eyes lit up with joy as it nodded eagerly.

The little ones all turned to Natsume-sensei, their gazes filled with curiosity and anticipation.

Natsume hesitated.

Its personality's like Sirfetch'd's… and it won't even be good at weather wars. Might not even evolve into Tyranitar.

But I'm not big on battling anyway. A single Larvitar won't bankrupt me—though I can practically see my savings flying away…

A chill ran down his spine. Natsume sighed softly, comforting himself:

"At the very least… Larvitar is cute!"

Then, he held out the Dusk Ball.

Larvitar blinked before tapping the button with its horn.

A red beam drew Larvitar inside, and after a slight wobble—click.

Instantly, the little ones burst into excited cheers.

Natsume felt a new thread of connection with Larvitar. He picked up the Dusk Ball, studying it for a moment.

Then, with a grin, he raised his hand.

"Larvitar, get☆daze!"
