Chapter 552 - Chapter 0553: Operation: Feed Larvitar!

Nighttime.

Silence enveloped everything.

Four hours had passed since Natsume caught Larvitar.

The Rotom alarm clock on the bedside table displayed 01:15 in glowing red digits.

Natsume lay fast asleep, lost in a dream of eating Alcremie's cream to his heart's content—

"Definitely a good dream," mused dream-Natsume. "But why do I keep seeing a flying mine just now?"

Suddenly, he remembered—he'd just caught a Larvitar.

This was a dream.

Natsume's eyes snapped open.

The empty room.

His trainer's belt, complete with the Dusk Ball holding Larvitar… gone.

...

Rewind one hour earlier.

Larvitar, having just eaten and yet already hungry again, blinked awake in the dark.

"Gengar?" Gengar, dangling from the ceiling, was the first to notice.

" Larvitar~" Larvitar patted its red-scaled belly, then shyly lowered its head.

"Gengar!" Gengar grinned, snapping its fingers like Natsume.

…Except no sound came out.

Gengar puffed its cheeks in frustration. "Gengar! (o`ε′o)"

The other little ones stirred awake, their eyes locking onto their new tiny companion.

In the darkness, Sylveon, Arcanine, Blastoise… loomed like a wall of silent intimidation, their eyes glinting.

"Larvitar~ (._.)" Larvitar instinctively took a step back under the pressure.

Standing protectively in front of it were two figures:

A snow-white knight—Sirfetch'd, and the self-proclaimed "big sister" Togepi.

"Sirfetch'd~" The leek-wielding Sirfetch'd pointed outside with a sharp gaze.

It planned to train Larvitar into the team—a fatherly act of tough love!

"Togepi doo-ee~" Togepi patted Larvitar's shoulder.

Offering its treasured cucumber-flavored chips, Togepi flashed a sweet smile.

Big Sis Togepi's got your back~!

"YLarvitar…" Larvitar's eyes flickered before it cautiously accepted the chips.

Mimicking Togepi, it tore open the bag and stuffed its cheeks, munching loudly.

CRUNCH.

The sound echoed in the silent room. Everyone stared.

"Larvitar~ (•﹏•)"

Larvitar swallowed, bubbles of happiness floating around its head.

The little ones collectively sighed in relief.

"Gengar?" Gengar asked if Larvitar was still hungry.

After getting a yes, it huddled with the others.

Under Rotom's strategic planning, they devised tonight's mission—

"Operation: Feed Larvitar! (Genius Rotom's Plan—Five-Star Reviews Appreciated!)"

(Natsume would've flipped a table at the unnecessary tagline.┻━┻︵╰(‵□′)╯︵┻━┻)

Under the cover of night, Togepi led Larvitar by the hand, pitter-pattering out the door.

To ensure Natsume slept soundly, Sylveon perched on the bed and used Yawn.

Then, the little ones marched into the open countryside.

They split up, leaving Togepi to watch Larvitar, and regrouped with food.

"Larvitar?" Larvitar tilted its head at Togepi.

"Togepi doo-ee!" Togepi raised a tiny finger dramatically—copying Natsume's pose.

(A blatant rip-off of Leon's signature move… but it looked cool anyway.)

"Larvitar!" Larvitar's eyes sparkled.

The two sat on a dirt ridge, legs dangling, staring at the starry sky.

Togepi, half a head shorter, patted its eggshell proudly—

"As expected of me, Togepi!"

A shooting star streaked across the sky. Larvitar gasped.

"Arcanine~!"

Arcanine's howl echoed through the wilderness as it trotted over, a giant Sitrus Berry in its jaws.

"Larvitar?" Larvitar pointed at the berry.

"Arcanine!" Arcanine smirked. Yes, eat it.

Larvitar shoved the entire berry into its mouth.

"Larvitar… ( ̄~ ̄)"

Arcanine's jaw dropped. No chewing?! That's insane!

Larvitar clearly wasn't full yet, but the little ones who had split up to gather supplies began returning one by one.

Blastoise brought back a Float Stone, which reduces the user's weight—apparently to make escaping easier.

With the Light Metal Ability, it could even weaken damage from Grass Knot… Blastoise was being way too cautious!

Larvitar: ( ̄~ ̄)

Gengar returned with an armful of snacks it had "found" from a vending machine at the station.

Among them were toast, bagged veggies, premium apples, and more—all common countryside fare that could even be used as Curry ingredients.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Larvitar chomped down on the apples and veggies one after another.

Each time it finished something, the group erupted in cheers—"Ohhhhhh!"

Larvitar, embarrassed, scratched its blunt horns with a blush.

Sylveon was the last to return.

Graceful, pristine, and snow-white, Sylveon casually dropped a Amulet Coin it had picked up from who-knows-where right in front of Larvitar.

"Sylveon~ (▼皿▼#)"

"Lar—Yvitar?!" Larvitar flinched and took half a step back.

Sylveon shot it a sidelong glance before turning away slightly.

Just dealt with those wild Persians. Grabbed some food for you while I was at it.

According to later recollections from the victim—the Persian leader of the rural Meowth gang:

"MEEEOOOOWWW!!! (´༎Д༎`)"

Clink.

The crisp sound of the coin hitting the ground echoed through the silent wilderness.

The little ones exchanged glances before bursting into laughter together.

Larvitar crunched on the Amulet Coin like it was Chocolate, then blinked dumbly at Gengar.

"Gengar! ( ̄▽ ̄)/"

Gengar grinned, pulling out a well-worn manual from its pocket.

"Giovanni's Techniques"

The ultimate Ground-type mastery, Giovanni's signature skill—boasting "undefeatable as long as you stand upon the earth."

Larvitar, now somewhat full, blinked and tilted its head. "Larvitar?"

What's this?

"Gengar!" Gengar flashed a sharp-toothed smile, raising the manual high.

If you wanna eat your fill, training starts today—

And it's all for the Trainer's dream, Gengar!

Hearing the promise of unlimited meals, Larvitar nodded vigorously without hesitation.

"Larvitar! (。♥‿♥。)"

Coach, I wanna learn "Giovanni's Techniques"!

Under the glittering Starry Sky, the little ones began their nightly training routine.

Boom—!

In the empty room, Natsume sat up in bed, wiping cold sweat as distant rumbles echoed outside the window.

He sighed, pulling the covers back over himself.

"Gotta talk to Steven tomorrow… Need to sleep early."

It was only the first night.

Surely nothing could go wrong… probably.

Drowsiness washed over him like a tide—Sylveon's delayed Yawn had finally taken effect.

As his increasingly superhuman physique succumbed to sleep, Natsume's muddled thoughts drifted:

"If Chesto Berries cure sleep… Couldn't you just eat them forever and never sleep?"

Somehow, he felt like he'd uncovered the truth behind Steven's legendary "22-day all-nighter."

Or maybe it was Worry Seed, changing his Ability to Insomnia…

The night passed without dreams.

Next morning.

Sunlight streamed into the room as Natsume stretched, refreshed.

Glancing around, he froze.

"They never came back all night?"

BOOOOM—!!

The violent tremor sent dust shaking loose from the ceiling. Natsume gulped.

"An… Earthquake?"

Not an Earthquake—it's my Larvitar!

A sense of impending doom surged as Natsume rushed to the balcony.

Under the bright sun, a perfectly manicured lawn now bore a jagged, raised mound of dirt.

"Larvitar… ( ̄~ ̄)"

Larvitar's blunt horns plowed forward, body in a swimming motion, mouth wide open.

"Larvitar…"

It was swallowing the excavated soil whole, tunneling through sheer gluttony.

"Gengar!" Gengar watched in awe.

Dig mastered in one night… Cheating? Maybe. But still impressive.

After all, Arcanine had taken a full day back then.

"Arcanine (O_o)" Arcanine tilted its head.

I feel insulted but can't prove it.

From the balcony, Natsume stared blankly before muttering:

"That's… actually a pretty well-dug tunnel."

"As expected of Boss Giovanni's "Giovanni's Techniques"…"

Larvitar, mid-soil feast: ( ̄~ ̄)

CRACK—! The ground shook violently.

Natsume-sensei's shout carried three parts despair, three parts regret, two parts rage, and two parts admiration:

"STOP EATING IT!!"

"The foundation's gonna— oh, it's already collapsing. Never mind."

Standing in the dust-choked garden, Natsume watched his villa sink into the trench like a battleship swallowed by the sea.

He pondered deeply.

"How am I gonna explain this to Moe-Moe! later…"

"Larvitar~"

Larvitar, belly round and full, plopped down with a satisfied burp.

So full~!

In that instant, flames of determination flickered in its eyes—it had found its life's purpose.

Gengar Master was right!

Train hard, eat well!

You can do this, Larvitar! (。♥‿♥。)

A breeze swept past as the little ones turned to Natsume's slender frame.

Rubbing his chin, Natsume mused:

Larvitar means no harm.

Look how hungry it was—resorted to eating dirt…

"We're heading to Sunyshore Gym soon, right?"

Gazing at the sky, he murmured:

"If you share the pain, it hurts less…"

"Larvitar? ( -'`-?)" Larvitar blinked innocently.

Did I do something wrong?

But its seniors wore expressions of utter calm—like this was just another Tuesday.

"Gengar~" Gengar grinned, hands on hips.

Arcanine howled. Sylveon lifted its chin. Blastoise adjusted its Sunglasses. Sirfetch'd glared sharply…

Togepi waved a Rotom Phone: "Togepi doo-ee! ヽ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ"

Misunderstanding the vibe, Larvitar puffed out its chest and roared.

"Larvitar!!"

Natsume glanced back, then calmly dialed a number on his Phone.

"You free?"

"On my way!"
