The next day after helping Harry with his idea of training his spellwork outside of the classroom.
"Uncle, what am I doing?"
Inside Felix's classroom where the tables were stacked away in the corner. Felix sat before Harry, Ron, Hermione, and John. He held a crystal ball that he recently will test their element and mental force.
"You will place your hand on this crystal ball here and we will go from there." Felix said.
Holding out the crystal ball, Harry with great reluctance and hesitation placed his hand on the crystal. The ball lit up with green and black as a seven was displayed in the crystal ball. Felix raised an eyebrow, but that was all.
'Harry has an average talent for darkness, and a high talent for wind. His mental fortitude is seven times the average person.' Felix thought.
Ron went next with an average talent for fire and a five for mental strength. Overall he was quite average and it showed with how well he learns magic.
Hermione followed Ron and had an average Earth with six for mental strength. She wasn't outstanding, but that didn't matter. They were just here to help him with his experiment.
Finally, John placed his hand on the ball. There a blue light shone with a large twelve appearing. Felix smiled as John had an extraordinary talent for water. Once that was out of the way, Felix placed the crystal away.
He had tested himself when making the crystal and had an extraordinary for Water, Earth, and Fire. His mental fortitude nearly reached three digits, and that was only because he pulled his hand away and wondered if he made an error in crafting it.
"Now that we know your element, we can begin." Felix said. "We will begin to mediate so find a comfortable sitting posture and make a gesture that will help you focus. When you meditate, begin trying to sense the element you displayed."
"How long are we going to try this?" Ron asked.
"For a couple hours. It may take longer before you can sense your element." Felix replied.
"That long?" Harry said in surprise.
"Did you think it was a quick progress?" Felix raised an eyebrow.
"Magic experiments take time and some even take decades." John said from the side. "Some projects also get halted due to funding. Much like Felix's floating island that was put on halt for nearly fifteen years."
"Fifteen years. Then wouldn't that have made him twelve or thirteen when he created the blueprint?" Hermione nearly jumped to her feet.
"Your point being?" Felix looked baffled. "Anyways, calm down and focus."
Hermione looked speechless and then looked at Harry and Ron who just shrugged. Clearly she wanted them to back her up, but they too could only look away. So despite her puffed up cheeks, they all began.
Felix winked at John who smiled as they silently used magic to lift the pillow below them and floated away. They weren't going to try the magic experiment in the same area as the three. Instead, after floating away, Felix went to his office where he closed it off while John went to a hidden spot near the Black Lake.
Closing his eyes, Felix began to relax as he attempted to find the elements around him. After a few minutes he felt the elements around him dancing as they sunk into his body. Thus he soon felt like an invisible thing cracked as he suddenly felt something changed within him.
Confused, Felix continued and felt his magic changing and growing? After taking a moment to think about it, Felix began to wonder if wizards upon maturing are just missing the meditation to break into a rank 1 magus. Maybe talented wizards and witches in history unconsciously broke through this rank and maybe a higher rank.
Then Felix denied this idea, for the simple reason magical creatures don't progress down this line. If his idea was true then magical creatures should have progressed down the magical beast path. Then wizards and witches who don't even know about advancements wouldn't be able to fight or keep them in captivity.
'This is so confusing.' Felix rubbed his forehead.

After a few hours came and went with Felix trying to think of what was happening. He still couldn't make heads or tails and sent the three children on their way. None of them really made much progress besides Harry. According to him, he seemed to briefly find a green spark, but it was fleeting.
On the other hand, John who came back also had a similar feeling to him. After a bit of effort, he also felt the water element and felt it growing. According to him, he didn't feel like a shell was breaking, but instead felt his senses were heightened especially towards water.
"So, I need to expand the testing field." Felix held his chin.
"I would assume so." John nodded. "It's been a while since I saw magic make you stump."
"Well, if what I am thinking now, I may need to redefine my theory." Felix sighed.
There seems to be something missing from his theory, but he should be on the right track.
