For a second, Luna Vilka blinked back at Selene before her mind settled back into focus.
"Good morning, Luna. I'm so sorry," Selene said, pressing her hands together, her eyes slightly widened. She had not been watching because she had been deep in thought while she marched towards Zephyr's office.
"No, it's fine. I was not looking," the Luna said, narrowing her gaze because she felt guilty looking into Selene's eyes.
"No, I was not looking," Selene insisted with a nervous giggle that made Vilka take her eyes back to Selene's face.
That light laughter was too familiar for Vilka to ignore. It reminded her of an old friend. An old, dear friend, and in that moment, a wave of heavy nostalgia passed over her. The sound unlocked a memory, sharp and clear: Kyla, with her head thrown back, laughing in the sun-dappled clearing by the river, her smile as bright as her spirit.
