Chantelle wanted to turn around to look, but the moment she thought of Daniel's face, she forced herself to stay still. She didn't want to see him again.
The sharp pain in her back returned. Chantelle gripped the bedsheet tightly and took in a slow, silent breath. She didn't want Daniel to notice her pain.
Daniel carefully removed the glass shards from her back. Then he disinfected the wounds and applied the ointment carefully. His movements were gentle. He did not use the chance to hurt her or take revenge.
"Can you untie me now?" Chantelle asked.
Daniel didn't respond. He walked toward the bathroom and disappeared.
A moment later, she felt warmth spread across her back. Daniel had returned and was wiping her back with a warm towel.
"Let go of me. I can do it myself." Chantelle tried to move away.
