In the end, Noah and the others didn't kill the guy who had been eavesdropping-Star-Lord.
The kid had been scared half to death.
Even though he didn't fully understand what he'd overheard, that didn't stop him from realizing one thing. This was big. The kind of big that concerned the universe.
Anything involving Thor, the Prince of Asgard, was never small-scale.
On top of that, Peter Quill discovered something even more absurd.
These two guys from Earth were magicians.
Magic civilizations weren't rare in the universe. But Earth having one?
That was bizarre.
And these Earth magicians didn't look easy to deal with at all. Especially the slightly chubby one who looked like he genuinely wanted to kill him to silence him.
That realization made Peter feel a deep sense of regret.
He never should've risked this job for money.
At least they didn't act.
Otherwise, he might've become the first Ravager in history to get robbed by a group that wasn't even Ravagers.
That title would've been humiliating.
Peter didn't care much about reputation.
But he cared about being alive.
Probably eager to get rid of these lunatics as soon as possible, Peter flew especially fast.
Fuel costs?
He didn't care.
Fuel could be earned back.
Life couldn't.
"Relax. We're not going to kill you," Noah said calmly, glancing at his tense posture. "But I'll put some magic on you. Something to control your mouth."
"...Like the kind where I die if I talk?" Peter swallowed.
"More or less. At least you'll stay alive."
"...Alright. I hope you're not lying."
Faced with Noah and Thor's group, Peter had no leverage at all.
All he could do was trust them.
In truth, Noah never planned to kill him.
Idiotic as he was, this guy had provided Noah with plenty of entertainment before.
The ship flew steadily.
Thor and Wong wandered around inside, exploring.
Even flying fast still took time.
Peter's Milano wasn't exactly high-end. Even for a space jump, it had to be relatively close to the destination.
Cheap ships were cheap for a reason.
Thor looked mildly dissatisfied.
"This thing is really slow."
"Hey, that's easy for you to say," Peter shrugged. "I'm not a rich prince. And who would sell high-end ships to Ravagers anyway? Make it easier for us to rob people?"
Compared to Thor's complaints, Noah and Wong were much calmer.
For them, this was new.
Especially Wong, who seemed unusually interested in Peter.
Not in a strange way.
In his identity.
Leaving everything else aside, Peter's name translated directly to an Earth name.
And more importantly-
Wong found a cassette tape on the ship.
"I say," Wong held it up, expression complicated. "Where did you even get this? This thing's about my age. I couldn't afford one when I was young."
"That's mine."
Peter immediately snatched it back.
"My mother gave it to me."
"...Your mother?"
Wong paused.
"That explains it. This thing's got history."
"Of course," Peter smiled proudly. "I take good care of it. I even use modern tech to maintain it. Want to hear the sound quality?"
Using alien technology to maintain an obsolete Earth cassette?
Wong didn't know what to say.
The sound quality was unexpectedly good.
The songs, however, were clearly decades old.
"...Where are you from?" Wong asked.
"Missouri."
"...America?"
"Yeah."
At that point, Wong was sure.
This guy was from Earth.
"How did you end up in space?"
"My mom died," Peter said quietly. "That night, a light took me. Next thing I knew, I was in space. Yondu adopted me."
"That's... unfortunate," Thor said, genuinely surprised.
He hadn't expected this seemingly simple-minded guy Noah casually picked up to be an Earthling.
Once that was clear, Wong's hostility faded completely.
Earlier, he'd genuinely considered killing Peter.
What Noah and Thor were dealing with wasn't something an unrelated person should hear.
But now?
A silencing spell was enough.
Unless someone stronger than Noah interfered, Peter wouldn't be able to say anything anyway.
There was nothing to worry about.
After some casual conversation, they reached their destination.
Morag.
A dying planet.
Its civilization had either been destroyed long ago or had fled before that happened.
None of that mattered to them.
Noah, Wong, and Thor were the same kind of people in this regard.
They didn't concern themselves with the life or death of unrelated civilizations.
Thor followed Asgard's creed.
Protect the Nine Realms.
Earth was included.
And Noah helping Thor also benefited himself.
It was mutual.
After all, Thanos had destroyed Asgard before coming to Earth.
Once they landed, Peter-showing rare responsibility-found protective suits for them.
He was surprised when none of the three showed interest.
No suits.
No oxygen tanks.
"You're not worried about dying here?" Peter asked, confused. "This planet's environment is terrible. Without protection-"
"Relax," Noah smiled, patting his shoulder. "This is nothing to me."
He wasn't exaggerating.
Noah had experienced far worse environments in the Star Wars world.
Zomidar's conditions were nightmarish.
Compared to that, this was mild.
"...Alright," Peter muttered.
He didn't know if they were bluffing, but he stopped asking.
He put on his own gear-a metallic disc that adhered to his body and projected an energy shield.
Convenient. Unrestrictive.
After confirming again that the three of them needed nothing, he led the way.
Unlike his relaxed antics in the original timeline, Peter behaved seriously this time.
No dancing.
No singing into random creatures.
No detours.
They moved straight toward the ruins.
Peter had the equipment.
That was why Noah hired him, despite already knowing where the Orb was.
As for whether Ronan's men would appear-
Noah didn't care.
If they didn't, fine.
If they did, even better.
To be honest, if not for Ronan's connection to Thanos, Noah would've liked to deal with him personally.
Back when he'd fought the Kree alongside Carol on Earth, Noah had stayed in the background.
Partly by choice.
Partly because he wasn't strong enough.
Now?
That wasn't the case.
He was an Eighth Order peak magician.
If Ronan hadn't improved, then this time-
Ronan would be the background character.
Unfortunately, Ronan seemed slower than expected.
So far, Peter had already retrieved the Orb.
No one showed up.
"...This is going unusually smoothly," Noah said, watching Peter secure it.
"What's wrong?" Wong frowned. "Isn't smooth good? You want trouble?"
"No," Noah replied calmly. "Calm and steady is best. I just don't like unpredictable variables."
"...So you're just picky," Wong said flatly. "You like it. You just won't admit it."
