Chapter 18: fight like a Heroes!
The explosion that sent Xandros skidding across the crater echoed like thunder through the clouds. Kieth's Cosmic White Wing Gundam steadied itself, its armor cracked and venting steam, the energy readings flashing red across his HUD.
Then—
his radar pinged.
A new signature appeared behind him. Familiar. Human.
"...What the—" Kieth muttered, turning the camera feed toward the direction of the light.
Through the haze, a silhouette rose from the shattered hangar—old armor gleaming gold beneath the sunlight. It was the XZ-72 Gundam, its frame fully awakened and radiating pink light across its surface. The thrusters roared as it landed beside him, kneeling briefly as if bowing to the battlefield.
Kieth's jaw clenched. "You've gotta be kidding me…"
The comms crackled—then her voice filled the cockpit.
"Sorry for the late entrance," Lyra said, her tone steady but soft, a faint smile in her voice. "I figured you could use a hand."
Kieth's eyes widened. "Lyra?! You—what the hell are you doing in that thing?! It's not a toy, princess!"
"I noticed," she said, her eyes glinting through the visor. "But if you fall… everything falls. I won't just stand and watch."
Kieth let out a short breath—half exasperation, half relief—as Xandros's massive form stirred in the distance, roaring in fury. The demon lord's wings spread, molten fire leaking from the cracks in his scales.
Xandros's voice boomed through the comms, his tone dripping with rage.
"Another human insect dares to interfere? Very well. I'll crush you both together!"
Kieth's grip tightened on his controls. "Tch… you've got guts, Lyra, I'll give you that."
He smirked faintly. "Alright, you're already here… let's make this right."
He flicked a command into his neural link.
"Metatron. Sync Lyra's Gundam into my system. And while you're at it—give that old machine an upgrade. Something worthy of a royal pilot."
"Affirmative," Metatron's voice replied. "Initiating adaptive reconstruction protocol. Transferring auxiliary AI core."
Lyra's cockpit glowed pink as data streams cascaded through her displays. Her machine began to shift—armor plates sliding, joints locking tighter, energy channels stabilizing. The transformation was seamless, elegant.
"Ding! Unit XZ-72 Gundam—evolution complete. New designation: Sky Defender Gundam—Rosaline Frame."
The newly reborn Gundam stood tall beside Kieth's, its wings unfolding like rose petals made of crystal light. Pink thrusters ignited along its back, releasing a soft, radiant trail as it took its stance beside the battered White Wing.
Lyra blinked as the new AI spoke—a calm, feminine voice resonating in her mind.
"Greetings, Princess Lyra. I am Seraphina—your tactical partner. Shall we begin?"
Lyra smiled faintly. "Nice to meet you, Seraphina. Let's protect him together."
The two Gundams took formation, white and pink auras swirling together like twin stars against the dark sky.
Xandros snarled, his massive claws slamming into the ground. "No armor, no light—will save you from destruction!"
Kieth raised his beam rifle, wings spreading wide as energy flared around him. "You talk too much."
He looked toward Lyra through the comm screen, his smirk confident now. "You ready, partner?"
She nodded, her eyes bright. "Always."
The world seemed to still for a heartbeat—then both Gundams launched forward in perfect sync.
The sky erupted.
Twin contrails—one white, one pink—spiraled upward as they clashed against the Demon Lord of Destruction. Kieth's beam saber locked with Xandros's claws, sparks spraying in every direction. Lyra's Rosaline Frame darted in from the side, firing a volley of radiant plasma arrows that seared across the demon's scales.
"Left flank!" Kieth shouted.
"On it!" Lyra replied, her Gundam spinning midair, drawing its twin energy blades.
Together they struck—white and pink streaks flashing through the storm like twin comets—slicing across Xandros's wings.
The demon howled, crashing backward into the mountainside, an explosion lighting up the clouds above them.
From the ground, Princess Serena and the allied armies looked up as the heavens burned with color—the twin Gundams standing side by side in midair, glowing like the last hope of humankind.
Kieth's voice came through Lyra's comm, low but steady. "Alright, princess. Let's end this bastard's reign."
Lyra smiled softly. "Together."
The two Gundams spread their wings—white and pink intertwining in a spiral of light—and soared toward the Demon Lord as the battlefield below erupted with cheers.
Lyra's vision blurred for a moment as the G-forces pressed her against her seat. The cockpit rattled like a beast's heartbeat, and the air felt heavy with energy. Her pink Sky Defender Gundam spiraled upward beside Kieth's Cosmic White Wing, their twin thrusters burning trails of light through the clouds.
Below them, Xandros raised his blackened blade, roaring like a living storm. His armor leaked molten energy, but the demonic runes along his frame pulsed brighter, repairing the cracks faster than before.
"His regeneration's accelerating!" Lyra shouted.
"I see it. Don't panic. He's just showing off," Kieth replied, voice calm but sharp. "Metatron, mark his core resonance frequency!"
"Locked," the AI said, its tone crisp. "Recommending dual convergence strike at 2300 altitude — synchronization required within 0.3 seconds."
Kieth smirked faintly. "You heard her. Let's make it perfect, Princess."
Lyra bit her lip but nodded. "Alright… try to keep up."
The sky exploded into motion. Xandros leaped after them, tearing through the air with raw propulsion from his infernal core. His black blade swung upward, slicing through clouds like paper. Kieth parried the strike midair, the impact sending out a thunderclap. Lyra swooped from behind, her Gundam's wings unfurling, releasing dozens of beam feathers that curved and struck Xandros' flanks.
Each explosion chipped away at his armor — but Xandros countered, hurling his blade like a spinning comet. Kieth twisted, catching it with both sabers crossed, sparks flying as his machine groaned under the weight.
"Lyra, now!"
She dove from above, locking onto the disarmed Xandros. Her pink Gundam's hands glowed — energy surging into the Heaven Piercer Lance, a newly unlocked weapon Metatron had activated during the upgrade.
"Divine—" she yelled, charging in.
"—Breaker!" Kieth finished, slamming both sabers into Xandros' chest as Lyra's lance pierced through his abdomen from behind.
The combined blast blew the sky apart. Fire and light swallowed everything, leaving only streaks of color in the clouds.
For a moment, silence.
Then — Xandros roared again.
His demonic core refused to die. The air trembled as wings of molten steel burst from his back, forming six jagged appendages. He kicked both Gundams away, creating a shockwave that cracked the floating debris below.
"Kieth!" Lyra shouted as her Gundam spun out of control.
"I'm fine! Keep your balance!" he yelled back, flipping upright midair. "He's adapting faster than expected. Metatron, calculate new resonance patterns—"
"Negative. Enemy evolution exceeds recorded data," the AI answered. "Recommending total energy convergence or retreat."
"Retreat's not an option," Lyra growled, sweat running down her neck. "Not while people are still down there!"
[Ground POV – Serena and Kaliksto]
The sky burned like dawn turned to war. Serena watched with wide eyes as streaks of pink and white clashed against a monstrous black figure above the clouds. The shockwaves shook the ruined streets, forcing her to brace herself against a broken wall.
"That's… Kieth's Gundam, right?" one soldier whispered, shielding his eyes.
"And the pink one… Princess Lyra," Kaliksto said, his usually calm voice low and reverent. "She's piloting the Old Gundam kieth use to pilot.. I thought that thing was grounded for good. And ita looks like its different now"
Serena gritted her teeth, loading another energy cartridge into her rifle. "Then we better make sure they've got no distractions down here. Everyone — clear the perimeter! Keep those flying beasts off their path!"
The soldiers around her moved, firing their rifles skyward as demonic drones poured from the rift, their wings dripping shadows. Explosions lit up the ground like fireworks.
"Come on, Lyra," Serena whispered, looking up again. "Show them what you're made of."
[Back to Aerial Combat POV]
Kieth's breathing was ragged now. Every impact, every evasive maneuver sent tremors through his cockpit. He could feel the strain in his muscles — even through the motion dampeners.
"Lyra! Pull left!" he shouted.
She obeyed instantly, their Gundams spinning in unison, dodging a barrage of plasma bolts that turned the clouds into fire.
Then — Kieth's voice cut through the static again, quieter this time. "You've gotten better. Not afraid to fly into hell anymore."
Lyra smiled faintly. "Maybe… because I'm not flying alone."
"Good. Then let's end this together."
The Cosmic White Wing's wings unfolded fully — all eight glowing panels forming a radiant cross. Lyra's Sky Defender followed suit, her pink wings blooming outward in mirror motion.
Metatron's voice chimed softly.
"Synchronizing souls… resonance achieved."
The two Gundams began to spin, intertwining energy streams — one white, one pink — fusing into a single beam of brilliant light.
Xandros roared, his molten wings spreading wide as he gathered his own dark core energy.
The sky split.
Two forces — divine and infernal — collided head-on, painting the heavens in blinding brilliance.
The light faded.
And with it — the world fell silent.
Only the faint sound of static filled Lyra's headset as smoke and fire drifted through the sky. Her pink Sky Defender Gundam hovered, systems flickering, but still intact. She blinked rapidly, heart pounding against her chest.
"Kieth…?" she called.
No response.
Her sensors recalibrated, and through the fading haze, she saw it — the Cosmic White Wing Gundam, what was left of it. Its left arm was gone. The chest armor shattered, exposing the glowing frame beneath. One of its wings had melted completely, the other barely holding on. It was kneeling midair, sparks sputtering from its joints like dying stars.
And behind it floated Xandros — torn, but alive. His demonic body was reforging itself, each molten vein pulsing brighter than before. His size had doubled, his presence warping the clouds themselves. It was as if the sky bent to his rage.
"Kieth!" Lyra cried again.
Then a faint chuckle came through the comms, rough and broken by static.
"Heh… still breathing. That's something, right?"
"Idiot," she whispered, tears gathering in her eyes. "You— you covered me with your Gundam! Why?!"
"Because you're the only one whose machine can still move," Kieth grunted. The cockpit around him was a mess of smoke and sparks, his armor suit torn, his face bruised. "Someone's gotta keep that thing busy till I reboot my system."
Metatron's voice flickered, weak.
"Warning… energy reserves critical. White Wing is at 9% structural integrity. Reactor failure imminent."
Kieth smirked faintly, blood trickling down his lip. "Yeah, yeah. I've been through worse."
Lyra's voice cracked. "You can't even stand, Kieth! Stop being reckless!"
"Reckless? Princess, look down there."
She followed his words — the world below was burning. Human soldiers, mechs, Zoids, and Transformers were being overwhelmed. The sky itself rained demons. And above it all, Xandros laughed — a low, thunderous sound that made the air vibrate.
"You two have spirit," the Demon Lord boomed, his voice echoing through the comms. "But spirit cannot kill a god."
He raised his clawed hand — black energy gathering, forming a massive sphere that pulsed like a dark sun. The pressure from it made even the Gundams tremble.
Kieth clenched his fists. "Metatron, analysis!"
"Energy output surpasses initial estimates by 600%. This is not his full strength. Xandros is still… evolving."
Lyra's eyes widened. "Still…?"
"Ding," Metatron continued weakly. "Estimated power usage: 15% of total."
"Fifteen percent?" Kieth barked a laugh that sounded almost broken. "Heh. Great. Just great."
The black sun grew, crackling with crimson lightning. The temperature in the cockpit rose, alarms screaming across both their HUDs.
Lyra gritted her teeth. "We can't take that head-on again—"
Kieth interrupted. "No choice. I'll hold the blast. You flank him from behind."
"What? No! Your Gundam can't even—"
"Just do it!" Kieth roared. "Metatron—lock my frame manually!"
The AI hesitated for a split second. "Affirmative."
The Cosmic White Wing straightened, its armor plates shifting into defensive formation. Wings spread wide despite their damage, the remaining feathers glowing white-hot.
Lyra's heart twisted. "Kieth, stop it… please."
He smiled weakly through the screen. "You wanted to help me, right? Then help me win."
Then the world ignited.
Xandros unleashed the blast — a torrent of demonic energy that consumed the sky. Kieth flew straight into it, his Gundam's frame glowing from the overload, his systems screaming as metal began to peel away.
"White Wing, activate Celestial Barrier!" Metatron's voice rang.
A massive golden field erupted around Kieth's Gundam, catching the beam head-on. The shockwave cracked the air like thunder.
Inside the cockpit, Kieth's teeth clenched as the control sticks vibrated violently in his grip. Every muscle in his body strained as the light engulfed him.
Meanwhile, Lyra darted upward, breaking through the storm of light. Her Sky Defender Gundam dove behind Xandros, wings flaring as she drew her energy lance.
"For everyone below…" she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. "For him!"
She drove the lance through Xandros' back.
The explosion was blinding. The shockwave tore through the clouds and sent both Gundams tumbling in opposite directions.
When the light faded again—
Xandros was still standing. His wings were gone, his armor charred, but his eyes burned brighter than ever.
"Impressive…" he said, voice dripping with dark amusement. "Then allow me to show you despair."
His body pulsed — and new horns grew, jagged and molten. His form expanded once more, cracking reality around him. The very air twisted, forming dark ripples of space.
Metatron's voice returned, faint and urgent:
"Warning… the Demon Lord of Destruction, Xandros, has reached his Ascended Form. Estimated strength output: 30%."
Lyra froze. "Thirty percent?! That's… impossible…"
Kieth coughed, half-conscious, his eyes dimly opening to see Xandros towering above the clouds. "Heh… guess… this is what a real boss looks like."
Lyra's hands shook, gripping her controls. "Then we'll just have to fight like heroes…"
To be continue
