"It didn't," Primrose said softly. For a brief moment, Edmund had been affected by the mummified skull, but she had managed to pull him back, and she had convinced him that everything it said was nothing but lies.
"Honestly, I don't think anything could ever tear the two of you apart," Leofric said with confidence. He let out a small chuckle, but there was no mockery in it. "Your bond is strong… and rare."
Primrose and Edmund stayed silent. The situation was too strange, too heavy, and neither of them knew what to say.
After a moment, Edmund spoke. "Then… what exactly is that, Sir Leofric?"
"Oh, right!" Leofric clapped his hands once, then turned back to the mummified skull. He walked around it a few times, brushing away the dust from the old, worn bandages. "I want to unwrap it, but I'm afraid the skull might break if I do."
"Is that a bad thing?" Primrose asked. "If it's dangerous, wouldn't it be better if it were destroyed?"
