Chapter 85 - Mansion Incident, Resident Evil 1 Plot

I just finished watching Arcane League of Legends for seasons 1-2, and damn, I'm really more interested in the story. This makes me confused about whether to choose Game of Thrones or Arcane. For the next arc in this fanfiction novel.

It had now been more than twenty hours since Bravo Team had gone missing without a word. Finally, Chief Brian summoned Lieutenant Marvin to his office.

"Any new information on Bravo Team?" Brian asked. Since Jill had paid him off, he figured he should at least try to dig into the matter himself. Besides, an incident involving S.T.A.R.S. could damage his reputation if the team ended up dead or worse.

"Bravo Team lost contact around 11 p.m., and so far we haven't received any further reports on their status," Marvin replied.

"In that case, dispatch Alpha Team immediately—and get in touch with Wesker. I want him to report to me at once," Brian ordered.

"Yes, sir," Marvin said with a quick nod before leaving the office to find Wesker.

Truthfully, Brian didn't care much about Bravo Team's fate. What occupied his thoughts was Arkley Mountain itself. He knew very well that Umbrella was running countless illegal experiments there, the kind that led to the bizarre incidents surrounding the area.

Not long after, Wesker entered Brian's office to discuss the mission ahead. Of course, Wesker already knew Bravo Team's exact situation—they were inside the Spencer Mansion, battling the B.O.W.s housed there. He had been monitoring everything through Umbrella's hidden CCTV feeds.

"You want me to bring Athena into this mission too?" Wesker asked, raising an eyebrow. He was confused as to why he should add another person to his team. Still, he was curious—Athena had once been invited, along with Jill, to join S.T.A.R.S. as a candidate. But she had declined the offer back then, so her sudden decision to participate now intrigued him.

"Yes—and don't ask why. I'm not going to give you an answer," Brian cut him off. "With the extra personnel, the search for Bravo Team will be much easier."

"…Fine," Wesker muttered as he adjusted his sunglasses, his voice cool and detached. "You're the boss. I can't exactly argue."

With that, Wesker rose to his feet, slid on his shades, and left the office, already turning his thoughts toward the mansion.

Not long after, Wesker gathered all the members of the Alpha Team, and once they were assembled, Wesker gave a few words of briefing on how their mission would proceed.

"All right, that's all from me. I hope you'll be ready to pack your things for the mission to find Bravo Team," said Wesker, then stepped down from the podium.

"Jill, aren't you supposed to be on leave? And also, Miss Winter, nice to meet you. My name's Barry Burton—you can just call me Barry," Barry said, welcoming Jill's return.

"Barry, just call me Athena—or Thena. Besides, my husband and Jill often talked about you at home," Athena replied in a casual tone.

"Hahaha, okay, I hope what Allen said about me were good things," Barry said, trying to joke a little to lighten the atmosphere, though in truth he was a bit worried about the other team members.

"Hey Jill, isn't it a problem for you to join this mission, especially since you're pregnant right now?" asked Chris, who finally joined their conversation. He couldn't understand why Jill would dare put herself at risk for this mission.

"Don't worry, Chris, I can take care of myself," Jill answered confidently.

"Fine, but don't hesitate to ask the other team members for help if you end up in trouble, okay?" Chris said, shaking his head. Jill's stubborn attitude really reminded him of his younger sister Claire, and that always made Chris a little worried. He could only hope Claire would listen to him and stay away from this city in the future.

"Also, don't worry. I'm sure Allen and the others are fine over there," said Chris, who seemed to understand why Jill was so stubborn about joining this mission. After that, he hurriedly gathered the supplies he needed. The others did the same, this time bringing plenty of equipment since they were anticipating the dangers in the Arklay Mountains.

Among the Alpha Team members, only Athena carried rather unusual equipment. Strapped to her waist was a small rod that seemed capable of extending into a spear, along with a pistol and a shield. This left the Alpha Team members a bit puzzled as to why this woman would bring such gear.

However, none of the Tactical Rescue members said anything—Athena's appearance radiated the presence of a goddess ready to descend onto the battlefield.

Not long after, Alpha Team departed by helicopter, flying toward the Arklay mountain range. Following the last known signal from Bravo Team, they traced the final coordinates not far from the railway area near a mansion.

"Captain, I've got a visual on Bravo Team's helicopter. It looks like they crashed," Joseph reported, clenching his fist as he hoped the Bravo Team members were safe.

The others also saw it and shared the same concern. Jill grew tense and worried, while Athena tried to calm her down.

"Alright, let's land here, and then we'll try to track their whereabouts on foot," said Wesker. Hearing the Captain's orders, the Alpha Team's pilot landed the helicopter not far from the crash site.

After they all disembarked, they checked inside but found no one.

"There's nobody here… did they leave on foot?" Chris remarked after inspecting the chopper.

The others who heard that felt a bit relieved, thinking there was still hope the Bravo Team had made it out alive.

But soon after, a foul, rotting stench began creeping closer, growing stronger by the second. Joseph, who had wandered a little farther, failed to notice a zombie dog lunging at him, jaws wide open.

"Joseph, behind you!" Barry shouted, raising his gun but hesitating to fire, afraid of hitting his teammate.

Joseph turned his head and could only scream—"Aaahhh!"—as he squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the pain that was about to hit.

But the pain never came. When he opened his eyes, a spear was already driven straight through the zombie dog's skull, pinning it into the ground.

"WTF… why is it always me?" Joseph muttered as he frantically checked himself, still in disbelief that he'd survived yet another attack. At this point, he felt cursed—every mission to the Arkley Mountains always seemed to bring him bad luck.

Athena then walked forward with elegance, like a true goddess of war, pulling her spear free from the ground with flawless grace.

The rest of the team was left speechless, captivated by Athena's charisma—she looked every bit the flawless goddess in that moment.

"Thank you, Athena, for saving me," Joseph said, still dazed. But then reality struck him—Athena was already married, the wife of Allen.

That realization cut deep, filling his chest with a dull ache and bitter envy toward Allen.

Athena only gave a slight nod, her eyes shifting sharply toward the distance.

"Get ready… more are coming," she warned.

And sure enough, moments later, more zombie dogs began emerging from the treeline, snarling as they rushed in to attack.

"Everyone, stay together! Don't spread out!" Wesker barked, giving his orders with precision.

The Alpha Team quickly regrouped, forming a defensive circle. Each member covered the other's flank, their guns blazing.

Bang!Bang!Bang!—the sound of gunfire echoed violently through the forest as they took down the oncoming horde.

Even though the number of monsters was quite large, it didn't mean they were strong enough to withstand the rain of bullets unleashed by Alpha Team. Minutes of tense shooting passed until, finally, the last of the undead beasts collapsed to the forest floor.

Meanwhile, Wesker, observing from behind his sunglasses, was quite satisfied, as it seemed he could obtain good battle data recordings using his glasses.

"Move! Don't waste time," Wesker commanded firmly, his eyes on his tracking device. "I've got a signal from Bravo Team to the east." Without hesitation, Alpha Team pushed forward, resuming their mission to find their missing comrades.

But suddenly, they heard the sound of a helicopter flying over them. It seemed the pilot from Alpha Team had panicked after hearing the gunfire and decided to fly away in fear, abandoning his team.

"Damn it, Brad! What the hell are you doing?" Joseph cursed loudly, furious after seeing their pilot leave them behind in the forest. But his voice didn't reach the pilot, as the helicopter had already flown far away from the Arklay Mountains area.

"Forget it, let's keep moving," Chris said, patting Joseph on the shoulder, though he too was annoyed with Brad's decision to abandon their team.

Meanwhile, Wesker wanted to use a trick to herd Alpha Team members into going to the Spencer Mansion, but he hadn't expected to find such a convenient opportunity like this.

"Let's move, it won't be safe if we stay here too long," Wesker told his team.

While Alpha Team was still exploring the Arklay area, Allen, Svetlana, and Rebecca were currently inside the hidden laboratory located within the Mansion. Their journey here hadn't been easy, as they had to get through several obstacles such as puzzles and other dangerous zombie mutants.

However, those obstacles weren't much of a problem for them, as Allen and his team were able to break through each barrier by force. Some of the Mansion's doors were even broken down by Svetlana's kicks, while others exploded from bombs set by Allen to blow them open.

Now Allen was still busy extracting various medicines that might be useful to create an antivirus that could be needed later. Rebecca was very impressed with Allen's ability to make medicines and wanted to learn more from him. Of course, Allen was happy to explain the important details in making the antivirus.

"Hmmm, Allen, we were only able to make 4 antiviruses. Is this enough?" Rebecca asked, holding the small bottles of antivirus and securing them inside her bag.

"Well, I hope this is enough, because with the remaining ingredients here, this is all we can make right now." Anyway, they didn't actually need the antivirus themselves, since their immune systems were already strong enough to naturally overcome the virus.

The problem, however, was with their teammates, who might be injured or infected by the virus.

The reason Allen didn't carry a stock of antivirus was because the T-Virus would keep mutating, so the previous antivirus wouldn't necessarily work if their teammates were reinfected. That's why Allen had to take new samples and keep updating the antivirus.

Not long after, Allen and the girls decided to look for the members of Bravo Team. On their way, they found traces of Bravo's battle—there were many monsters in the area that had already been killed by them.

"Are they all right?" Rebecca asked, a little worried about her teammates.

"I hope so. At least we haven't found their corpses yet, so there's a high chance they're still alive. Besides, they're an elite team that has already completed many missions and are very experienced," Allen said while holding Rebecca's hand.

Rebecca nodded when she heard that, while Svetlana had been silent the whole time, focusing on observing their surroundings.

As they walked into a hall, they entered a grand room with European-style interiors, feeling as though they were inside a medieval castle on the second floor. But behind the fireplace, a strange noise could be heard.

Scratch

Svetlana, hearing the screeching sound, became alert and pointed her weapon.

"Is that a spider?" Allen asked.

"No… the sound is like a snake," Svetlana replied.

And then the sound moved to the ceiling area. Allen moved closer to Rebecca to protect her.

Not long after, Svetlana loaded a grenade round into her launcher, ready to fire.

PungBoom

The ceiling area exploded, and a giant snake fell down, writhing after being hit by the blast. The snake roared, trying to lunge at them.

But Allen was already prepared with his RPG and fired straight into the snake's mouth.

Boom!

A stronger explosion shook the room, and the snake's head instantly blew apart.

Svetlana turned speechless while staring at Allen—instead of weakening the creature with bullets first, he had immediately used heavy artillery.

"Why are you wasting ammo from the most powerful weapon?" Svetlana asked in disbelief, arguing with Allen.

"What? Come on, that was a pretty huge monster, so isn't it normal? I just didn't want to waste time fighting some weird creature—better to use the strongest weapon we have," Allen said while reloading his RPG. Yeah, this was his last rocket.

Their argument was enough to make Rebecca smile at the moment, amused by their antics.
