Chapter 30 - The Hidden Refuge

Chapter 30: The Hidden Refuge

Han Feng traversed the deeper regions of the Misty Shadow Mountains beneath the cloak of night.

He had been moving for hours.

He never followed a straight path for long.

Whenever the terrain allowed it, he changed direction, crossed rocky slopes, passed through narrow ravines, and occasionally moved through shallow streams to disrupt any lingering traces of his presence.

Even so, he did not believe he was completely safe.

The false resonance had already begun to weaken.

Soon, the people from the cave would know that they had been deceived.

Han Feng needed somewhere they would not think to search.

He continued deeper into the mountains.

The surrounding spiritual energy gradually became more chaotic.

This was one of the reasons ordinary cultivators avoided the area.

The deeper regions of the Misty Shadow Mountains were filled with unstable Qi currents. In some places, the spiritual energy was so disordered that even spiritual sense became unreliable.

For Han Feng, that was useful.

It could conceal him.

But it could also conceal dangers.

He slowed down.

A faint growl echoed from somewhere beyond the trees.

Han Feng stopped immediately.

He did not release his spiritual sense.

Instead, he listened.

The growl came again.

Something was moving through the mist.

Han Feng remained motionless for several breaths before a pair of dim eyes appeared between the trees.

A spirit beast.

It was only a low-ranked beast, but Han Feng did not underestimate it.

He waited until it passed.

Only then did he continue.

After another hour of careful travel, the terrain changed.

The mountains opened into a narrow valley surrounded by steep cliffs.

Dense mist covered the valley floor.

Han Feng stopped at the entrance.

He did not enter immediately.

Something about the place caught his attention.

The spiritual energy here was unusually dense, but it did not flow normally.

It circulated in slow, irregular currents, constantly colliding with the surrounding mountain walls before sinking back into the valley.

The terrain itself was strange.

Large rock formations surrounded the valley like natural barriers.

Several narrow passages led inside, but only one appeared large enough for a person to enter comfortably.

Han Feng narrowed his eyes.

"A natural formation?"

He carefully extended his spiritual sense.

The mist distorted it.

His perception could only reach a limited distance before becoming blurred.

That was exactly what he needed.

But it also meant there could be dangers hidden inside.

Han Feng did not immediately establish a cultivation formation.

First, he searched the valley.

He checked the cliffs.

Then the surrounding trees.

Then the ground.

He found old claw marks near one of the rocks, but they were weathered and appeared to be several months old.

There were also traces of a dried spiritual herb near the eastern cliff.

No fresh footprints.

No recent campfire.

No signs of human activity.

Most importantly—

No recent spiritual fluctuations belonging to cultivators.

Han Feng finally relaxed slightly.

"This place might work."

But he still did not trust it completely.

A good hiding place was not necessarily a safe place.

He chose a narrow section between two large rocks and began setting up several simple concealment formations.

He did not use anything powerful.

Powerful formations would create their own spiritual fluctuations and could attract attention.

Instead, he arranged several low-level formations that worked together.

One concealed his aura.

Another disrupted spiritual perception.

The third distorted the direction of residual Qi.

None of them could withstand a determined expert.

But together, they could make tracking considerably more difficult.

Han Feng checked each formation twice.

Only after confirming that there were no obvious flaws did he sit down.

He closed his eyes.

He listened to the valley.

Wind.

Mist.

Distant insects.

Nothing else.

For the first time since entering the ancient cave, Han Feng allowed himself to breathe normally.

He reached into his spatial pouch.

The Celestial Fragment appeared in his palm.

The moment it emerged, the surrounding spiritual energy changed.

The mist trembled slightly.

Han Feng's expression hardened.

Even after everything that had happened, the fragment still reacted to his presence.

He placed it on the ground before him.

He did not immediately inject Qi into it.

Instead, he studied its surface.

The ancient symbols were almost impossible to understand.

Some resembled the markings from the altar.

Others were completely unfamiliar.

One symbol in particular caught his attention.

It resembled two opposing currents twisting around each other.

Han Feng frowned.

The image reminded him of the way his Dual Chaos Larva Gu harmonized conflicting energies.

Was that coincidence?

Or had the fragment reacted to something already inside him?

He took a slow breath.

Then he cautiously sent a thread of Qi into the fragment.

The response was immediate.

The ancient symbols began to glow.

A faint hum filled the valley.

Han Feng's body stiffened.

Information poured into his consciousness.

Not words.

Not a complete memory.

Fragments.

Ancient formations.

Countless lines of energy crossing a vast celestial structure.

Figures dressed in black standing beneath an enormous sky.

Two opposing forces colliding.

Then merging.

And finally—

A six-pointed celestial pattern appearing between them.

Han Feng's consciousness shook.

For an instant, he saw the same young figure he had glimpsed during the trial.

The figure stood before the ancient altar.

But this time, there was something different.

The young figure was holding two streams of energy in his hands.

One appeared chaotic.

The other seemed perfectly ordered.

They should have destroyed each other.

Instead, they slowly merged.

Then a voice echoed through Han Feng's consciousness.

Ancient.

Distant.

Almost impossible to understand.

Only one sentence remained clear.

"The key to ascension lies in the fusion of chaos and destiny."

Han Feng's eyes opened.

His breathing was slightly heavier.

"Chaos... and destiny?"

He stared at the fragment.

The sentence was simple.

Its meaning was not.

His first thought was the two cultivation systems.

Qi cultivation.

And Gu cultivation.

Perhaps the ancient inheritance was referring to the fusion between them.

But something felt wrong.

The words did not seem to describe two separate cultivation systems.

They sounded more fundamental.

As if chaos and destiny were two principles that existed beneath both systems.

Han Feng remembered the guardian's words.

Only one who can harmonize opposing forces may touch what lies beyond.

His expression became serious.

The two clues were connected.

He could feel it.

But he still did not understand how.

Then another fragment of information appeared.

A single image.

A vast celestial formation.

At its center was the six-pointed pattern.

Around it stood six empty positions.

Five were completely dark.

One was faintly illuminated.

Han Feng stared at the image.

"What are those?"

Before he could investigate further, the image disappeared.

The fragment became silent.

Han Feng waited.

Nothing happened.

He slowly withdrew his Qi.

The ancient symbols faded.

The valley returned to silence.

Han Feng did not immediately put the fragment away.

He sat there for a long time, thinking.

The inheritance had given him another clue.

But it had also created even more questions.

What were the six positions?

Why was only one illuminated?

Who was the young figure?

And why had the ancient guardian called him an heir?

Han Feng's gaze became cold.

Someone had been searching for the Celestial Pattern.

The Black Moon Sect had records related to it.

The mysterious group in the cave knew about an heir.

And the Shadow Sect was apparently searching for the same person.

Too many forces were connected to something he barely understood.

He carefully stored the Celestial Fragment again.

For now, he would not activate it a second time.

Every interaction risked producing spiritual fluctuations.

And after the events in the cave, he could not afford to attract attention.

Han Feng looked toward the mist covering the valley.

This place would serve as his refuge.

For a while, at least.

He closed his eyes and began cultivating.

The Dual Chaos Larva Gu slowly circulated within him.

His Qi moved through his meridians.

Gu energy followed another path.

Normally, the two forces should have conflicted.

Instead, they gradually approached one another under the influence of the Celestial Transmutation Gu.

Han Feng carefully controlled the process.

He did not seek rapid advancement.

Not now.

His priority was control.

Concealment.

Understanding.

And survival.

Outside the valley, the night remained silent.

Far away, somewhere beyond the mountains, the false resonance finally disappeared.

The altered spirit stone had exhausted its temporary imitation.

The trail was gone.

Whoever had been following it would soon realize that Han Feng had escaped.

But they would not know where he had gone.

For the first time in days, Han Feng had created a small gap between himself and his pursuers.

He opened his eyes.

A faint determination appeared in them.

"Then I'll use this time well."

He looked toward the dark sky above the valley.

"The shadows are getting deeper."

His fingers tightened slightly.

"And so am I."

Han Feng closed his eyes once more.

Hidden beneath the mist, his cultivation continued.

The world believed him to be weak.

The Black Moon Sect knew almost nothing about him.

The mysterious group in the cave had failed to identify him.

And the Shadow Sect had not yet found him.

For now, Han Feng remained a secret.

But secrets never remained buried forever.

And somewhere within the Celestial Fragment, something ancient had already begun to awaken.
