Three days passed.
Three days of following the endless migration of the stingrays through the Soul Sea.
By now, the expedition had abandoned any notion of haste. The vessel simply drifted behind the enormous school while every waking moment was devoted to understanding the ancient inscriptions spread across their backs.
Every race contributed in its own way.
Meanwhile the warriors protected everyone else.
Native Soul Sea beasts attacked almost daily. Some emerged from beneath the vessel, others descended from the strange storms drifting across the ocean, while a few appeared from tears in space itself. None of them survived for long. By unspoken agreement, the scholars were never interrupted unless absolutely necessary. Every attack was intercepted before it came anywhere near those attempting to decipher the stingrays.
I scarcely noticed any of it.
For those three days, my world consisted of nothing except glowing runes.
