Succubi Chapter 85. A Vision of Elegance and Thigh-high Domination
I grinned in victory, practically glowing with pride—well, under the bloodstains and trauma, anyway.
"Alright," I muttered, turning back to the staff with both hands on my hips, striking what I hoped was a cool pose. "When's the next mission?"
Because I didn't survive all that to go back to being broke.
The room went quiet for a beat.
Then one of the older staff members scratched his head. "Uh… we haven't decided yet."
Another guy, younger, spinning a stylus between his fingers, added, "Actually, we haven't even processed your result yet. Or submit it."
My dramatic pose wilted instantly.
"Oh," I muttered, deflating like a balloon at a funeral.
Then came the inevitable.
"Sit down," someone else said, gesturing toward a rolling medical chair with the kind of voice you use when talking to unstable furniture. "We need to check you first."
I sighed like a man who'd just been told dessert was canceled, then flopped into the chair. "Okay, okay, fine. But I'm telling you—I feel great. Fully healed. Mentally stable-ish. Probably."
One of the staff started poking at my arm with a glowing scanner. It was cold and made this weird little zzt-zzt noise every time it passed what should be a bruised spot. Which, fortunately, was healed.
I hissed as the scanner passed over my bicep. "Ow. Hey, careful! That's where they threw me."
The medic scribbled something onto a medical clipboard with the enthusiasm of a bored librarian. "No bruising. Still sore. Muscle fatigue. Possibly torn mana threads."
I blinked. "...That sounds worse than it feels."
Leon plopped down on the stool beside me and leaned in with a look of pure gossip energy.
"Dude," he whispered, grinning. "We were all freaking out when you just vanished from the simulation room."
I gave him a lopsided smile. "So that means you came out first?"
Leon nodded. "Yeah. I was defeated before the timer ran out. That last boss? Total pain. I couldn't beat it. It just tanked everything I threw at it."
"Ah, shame," I said sympathetically. "But hey, we can still take Rank C missions together. I mean, I can't just dive straight into Rank B solo, right? Gotta be careful."
Leon nodded again. "Exactly."
I groaned a little as the scanner jabbed me in the ribs. "Ow, man—gentle hands, please! I'm a delicate post-battle flower. I just forgot to wear my fragile sticker."
The staff member didn't even look up. "Delicate flowers don't usually leak blood down their pants."
"Okay, first of all, rude," I said, then winced when he poked my side again.
Leon chuckled.
"Oh, right—where's Adrian?" I hissed as the medic prodded my thigh. "Seriously, do you have to do it that hard?"
"Standard procedure," he droned.
Leon snorted. "Well, Adrian? That poor guy ran to find your dorm mother excitedly, when they said you disappeared."
I froze for half a beat.
Then cringed.
"You just said 'poor' and 'excitement' in the same sentence. I don't know whether to be touched or horrified."
Leon shrugged innocently. "I only said what I saw."
I groaned. "Of course he was excited. He's been raving about Lilith since the class ended. Says she's, and I quote, 'a vision of elegance and thigh-high domination.'" Okay, I exaggerated it. But it was kinda similar. Right?
Leon snorted again. "Sounds about right."
I shook my head. "Bet he made this whole emergency about me disappearing just so he could have an excuse to visit her."
"I mean… would you blame him?" Leon grinned.
"...No," I admitted. "But he's still not forgiven for snitching under the banner of thirst."
Leon's expression shifted.
Something dangerous sparkled in his eye.
That grin turned sharp.
"But," he said slowly, "you know what's really nice?"
I eyed him warily. "What?"
Leon leaned in, voice smug. "Ares only got Rank D."
I blinked.
Then blinked again.
"No way."
"Oh, way." He smirked. "He came out of the simulation room right before me. Stormed out. Fuming. So I asked the staff what happened."
"And?"
"They said he flopped at the third boss. Got stuck. Didn't finish the final scenario. Got a Rank D."
I burst out laughing. That low, wheezing kind of laugh that comes out of you like steam from a cracked pipe. My ribs protested, but I didn't care.
Leon joined me, and soon we were both laughing like two bastard coyotes that had just stolen dinner off the king's plate.
"Oh man," I gasped between laughs. "He's going to be insufferable for a week."
"He already was insufferable," Leon said, wiping tears from his eyes. "Now he'll be salty and bruised."
The staff gave us both judgmental looks, but I couldn't stop giggling like an idiot. Between surviving Virelya, getting healed, and now hearing Ares flunked?
It was like Christmas came early. Only with more blood and sass.
"It's just a teenager thing. Don't judge us," I said innocently.
The scanner guy finally stepped back. "Vitals stable. Mana thread strain noted. Internal recovery in progress. You're cleared."
"Hell yeah," I said, hopping off the chair. "Look at me. All functional and semi-handsome again."
Leon nudged me. "Semi?"
I winked. "I'm being humble."
The door slid open behind us.
I turned—and there she was.
Evelyn
She stood in the doorway, no longer in her blood-smeared succubus armor. She'd changed—now wearing her crisp academy uniform again. Her hair was pulled back in a quick ponytail. Her expression was unreadable, but her eyes flicked straight to me.
Not Sera.
Not the staff.
Me.
I gave her a grin and two finger guns. "Hey. Sorry for the exit earlier. Dramatic flair."
She didn't say anything right away.
Then…
"You kissed me."
"Yeah," I said, smile widening. "You deserved it."
Her cheeks turned the faintest shade of pink.
Sera peeked from behind her, resting her chin on Evelyn's shoulder like a sleepy cat with drama radar. "That's two girls you owe explanations to now."
I shrugged. "Add it to the tab."
Leon leaned in. "Wait… you kissed her? Like in the bathroom?"
"Uh… Long story."
Because honestly?
Even with the blood.
Even with the pain.
Even with the scanners and the post-boss awkwardness—
I was alive.
I'd passed.
And my life was about to get so much more complicated.
But first?
Mission money.
And maybe a snack.
