Chapter 86 - The Academy Bombshell

Succubi Chapter 86. The Academy Bombshell

I casually stretched my arms over my head, ready to make the most perfectly timed, dramatic, zero-explanation exit in the history of academy boys with far too many secrets.

My goal? Escape this room before Leon asked why I kissed Evelyn in the bathroom, why Sera of all people was suddenly here, and more importantly, how I'd managed to get two certified dangerous women to follow me into the same toilet without setting each other on fire.

Also? The staff were pretending not to listen.

You know the type.

Pens scribbling blank lines, eyes just a little too locked on their monitors, one guy nodding to himself like a malfunctioning NPC.

But their ears? Locked in. I could feel it.

I'm just an academy student. For hell's sake.

And yet somehow, I'd walked straight into the kind of social drama that would require divine arbitration and at least three restraining orders.

I inched toward the door like a rogue about to steal cookies and avoid backstory.

One foot.

 Two foot—

 Freedom nearly in reach—

"Evan!"

The door hissed open like a blade being unsheathed, and in strode Lilith.

Not just "walked in." No, that wasn't her style.

She entered, sweeping like a storm in stilettos, hair swaying like a fire-whipped curtain, cloak snapping behind her like it had opinions. Her heels clicked like judgment, and I immediately knew I was not escaping this.

Behind her?

Adrian.

He looked like someone who'd run here at top speed, half-praying I was dead, half-hoping to be the hero of the hour.

Lilith didn't even glance at him.

She beelined to me.

"Oh, my boy," she said, voice syrupy and sensual and also… dangerously sharp. "Are you okay, Evan?"

And then—

She examined me.

And by "examined," I mean her fingers were suddenly on my jaw, turning my face this way and that, brushing over my cheeks, my temple, trailing down to my collarbone like she was inspecting a prized sculpture that maybe got into a bar fight.

I blinked up at her, still sitting on the edge of the medical chair. "Uh… I'm fine," I said, trying to smile through the sheer overwhelming presence of her body heat and perfume.

"You don't look fine," she pouted, her eyes scanning me again like I was a sad stray she was legally required to adopt.

Then she said the words.

"Oh, you poor thing…"

And hugged me.

Hugged. Me.

Lilith Avarosa.

The Academy Bombshell herself.

She bent down and wrapped her arms around me, which, yeah, okay, that was already intense—but I was still seated, and she was standing.

Which meant…

Yeah.

My face?

Between her boobs.

My brain blue-screened.

Like full-on [ERROR: SENSORY OVERLOAD].

I could feel her warmth, the soft press of everything that made her Lilith. My nose filled with the scent of roses and dark vanilla, with a hint of soul-binding perfume that probably had a kill count.

Adrian's jaw dropped.

Leon choked.

The staff?

They all stopped pretending.

One even muttered, "This life isn't fair."

And me?

I gave them a dazed, euphoric thumbs up.

Lilith pulled back just a little, cupping my cheeks, eyes full of genuine worry. "If anyone hurt you, darling, just say the name. I'll take care of it."

I swallowed hard. "Uh. I can't really talk about it here," I said, glancing around the room where at least three staff members were definitely not pretending to listen. "But the test? Went well. I'm still alive. Mostly sane. No missing limbs. So, y'know—pretty good day."

"Yeah, Evan's fine," Evelyn muttered from behind me, arms still crossed.

Lilith finally turned and noticed the two dark figures loitering behind the staff divider like judgmental gods of jealousy and passive aggression.

"Oh my," she purred, smile slow and sharp. "Aren't you two a little far from your usual brooding corners?"

Evelyn arched a brow. "Well, I and Evan are in the same semester."

Sera yawned, stretching against the wall like she was allergic to giving a shit. "I was working. Part-time in the infirmary. Someone made a mess."

Not saying who. But her eyes casually drifted toward me.

Leon, still processing my earlier death-defying stunts and the romantic war crimes I was casually committing, leaned toward me and whispered, "Okay. So… just curious. Are we not gonna talk about how you kissed Evelyn earlier?"

"Leon," I hissed through my teeth. "Do you want to die?"

He grinned. "Honestly? A little. Watching all this from the front row is giving me everything I need to start a gossip guild."

Before I could retaliate with something like "I'll shove your face into a Siren's echo chamber," Adrian piped up beside me.

"So, uh… I brought her here," he mumbled. His eyes hadn't moved from Lilith since she walked in. He looked like he'd just witnessed the gates of heaven open and realized they were wearing a thigh-slit silk dress and six-inch heels. "You know. In case something happened to you."

"Thanks, man," I said honestly. But his gaze clearly screamed, 'Why is she hugging you and not me?'

Lilith leaned toward him and finally acknowledged his existence. "You're such a helpful young man, Adrian."

He beamed like she'd just knighted him with a kiss on the forehead.

Then she turned back to me and brushed a smudge of blood from my lip with her thumb—slowly, intimately—and Adrian's soul visibly left his body. His eyes went dead. His jaw dropped. His knees buckled just a bit.

I gave Leon a deadpan look. "He okay?"

"I think he just discovered despair."

"Poor guy," I muttered, then paused and smirked. "But let's be real. He was probably hoping she'd hug him."

Leon cackled. "With the way he talks about her? I'm surprised he didn't try to fake a coma."

I sighed, rubbing my temple. "Of course Adrian was excited. He's had that 'Lilith is the definition of perfection' look in his eyes since day one. Bet he saw this as the perfect excuse to be her knight."

Leon nudged me. "Well. Guess you were the damsel."

I deadpanned. "...Thanks."

"Anytime."

Lilith, meanwhile, turned to the staff like she ran the whole damn building. Which, let's be honest, she probably did. "His condition's stable, yes?"

One of the staff cleared his throat awkwardly. "Uh, yes. Scans show full recovery. External injuries gone. No internal damage."

"Perfect," she said with a pleased nod. "And the result?"

Another staffer adjusted their tablet, eyes flicking nervously to me. "He received a Rank B+… though the final report hasn't been fully filed. There was an anomaly during his simulation."

Lilith's gaze sharpened. "Anomaly?"

"She means the system breach Evelyn mentioned," I whispered quickly. "Some weird glitch in the simulation. I'm fine. The enemy is very not fine."

Leon whistled. "B+ though. That's impressive."

I straightened with a proud grin. "Though I might stick to D or C for a bit. Y'know… keep my limbs. Test the water."

Lilith smiled like I'd just told her I graduated top of my class. "Good. You're not allowed to get yourself killed, Evan."

"I make no promises," I said, then winked. "But I'll try. For you."

Leon gagged. "Ugh. I can feel the romantic tension."

Adrian looked like he was weighing the pros and cons of ritual suicide.

And then—because this day wasn't over yet—Lilith said sweetly, "If you need help choosing your first mission, come to my room later. We'll… discuss your options."

Leon's jaw dropped.

Adrian actually whimpered.

I just smiled like an idiot and nodded. "Yeah. Sure. Absolutely. No problem. Later. Got it."

Behind me, Sera muttered something about "overachievers," and Evelyn exhaled so slowly I thought she might be releasing a curse.

I choked on my own breath.

Leon?

He looked like he needed a camera crew and a recording contract.

Adrian?

Poor, poor Adrian.

He looked like a man who'd just realized the final boss wasn't the monster in the dungeon…

…it was me.

And I was already sleeping with the final cutscene.
