Chapter 87 - Double Ow

Succubi Chapter 87. Double Ow

Somehow, we made it out.

No more questions. No more drama. No more glares from the staff—or Leon's "I know everything" eyes. Even Adrian didn't speak a word. Though, judging by his twitching eye and the way he kept clenching and unclenching his fists, he was probably three heartbeats away from collapsing in emotional cardiac arrest.

Honestly, I felt kind of bad for him.

But also not.

Because I was back. In one piece. And we'd survived a boss-level siren and a collapsing pocket dimension.

I deserved peace.

And maybe a damn nap.

We reached the dorm just as the sky started darkening, a soft lavender bleeding into dusk. The building stood like a temple of chaos waiting to happen. My chaos. My sanctuary. The all-girls dorm I had somehow managed to legally exist in without being exorcised.

I trudged across the courtyard with the singular focus of a man who wanted nothing more than to faceplant onto his bed, pull a blanket over his head, and pretend nothing weird had happened today.

But of course—

That was too much to ask.

Because as I got in…

"Evan."

Lilith's voice. Sweet. Sharp. Dangerous.

I froze.

Yup.

Interrogation time.

I turned slowly. "Yes…?"

She was standing, arms folded, like she hadn't just casually groped my face in front of half the staff earlier.

"Let's talk," she said, and there was no room in that tone to refuse.

I followed her into the living room, a wide space filled with plush chairs, low velvet couches, and the constant scent of rose oil that wafted from the candles. The fireplace crackled softly, even though it was entirely decorative.

Lilith made her way to one of the long sofas—black leather, elegant, and way too dramatic for a school dorm—and sat down first, legs crossed like she was about to deliver a very professional threat. She patted the spot beside her without looking at me.

I sat.

And immediately regretted everything.

She looked at me.

Not like a flirt.

Not like a dorm mother.

Like someone peeling back the layers of a very inconvenient mystery.

"Okay," she said softly, but firm. "Now explain to me what really happened. Adrian only said you and Evelyn vanished from the simulation. That the system glitched and both of you disappeared."

I glanced down. "Well… he's not wrong."

Lilith didn't blink.

Evelyn chimed in coolly, "We were both dragged into separated pocket dimensions. Classic demon trap spell. Mid-level caster."

I blinked at her. "Excuse me—mid-level? That demon almost killed me."

Evelyn shrugged. "Still mid-tier by demon classification."

I winced. "I need to level up more…"

Lilith's gaze sharpened. "What kind of demons?"

"Siren," Evelyn answered.

"Twin sirens," I added, holding up a finger. "And mine had boss-phase behavior. The full cutscene, mood lighting, multiple phases, the works. I almost killed her, I swear—then she went all glowy-eyes and boom—boss transformation."

"I killed mine," Evelyn said simply. "Then I saved his ass."

"Yup," I said, nodding. "She saved my ass. Completely. I was a second away from getting flash-fried by water magic."

Evelyn added, deadpan, "And I know you were trying to seduce her just to land a zero-range nuke."

I turned to her, blinking. "Wait—you saw that?"

She raised a brow. "Breaking the dimension's inner wall let me see you. You couldn't see me, but yeah—I watched you flirt like a last-ditch desperate imp."

I groaned and rubbed my face. "Damn… there goes my pride."

"But it worked," Evelyn admitted. "So… you're either lucky, suicidal, or horny."

I held up three fingers.

"Triple threat. But come on," I protested. "She was level 30. I hadn't even hit level 10. I pulled off a miracle!"

Sera appeared behind the couch, yawning and rubbing her eyes like she'd just woken up.

"Miracle~" she murmured, then without warning, climbed over the couch and slumped against me like a sleepy cat.

I flinched as she leaned her whole body weight on me, curling into my side, arms half-draped around my torso.

"Where's my thank you?" she mumbled into my shoulder.

I glanced at her. "Uh… thank you?"

"Where's my kiss?" she muttered.

I blinked. "What?"

She sat up just enough to look me in the eyes, pouting. "Evelyn got one."

Oh, hell.

I hesitated. "That was a… life-saving emergency kiss."

Sera narrowed her eyes. "So? I saved you too. Healed you."

Lilith, of course, was just watching this. Smiling faintly. Like a very amused predator.

Evelyn rolled her eyes. "He kisses anyone who brings him soup now?"

Sera grinned. "Sloth-flavored soup."

I sighed, leaned forward, and kissed her cheek quickly. "Thank you for the healing, Sera."

Sera's smirk could've melted steel. "Mmm. Good boy." And yeah, she patted me like I was her pet.

Lilith finally spoke again, her tone colder. "Back to the important part. You survived, yes. But this wasn't random. Dragging both of you into pocket dimensions isn't just malicious. It's tactical. Coordinated. Someone wanted something."

She looked directly at me.

"Did they… know Evan is the previous Hell King's heir?" Her eyes narrowed. "Or was this just a random hit?"

I shook my head. "I don't think so. I mean… she did want to kill me, but she didn't know who I was. Said she wasn't under orders. She came on her own."

Evelyn nodded. "That checks out. She didn't mention the royal line."

Lilith exhaled slowly. "So either a wild coincidence… or something is watching you."

"Maybe they just wanted to kill me for fun?" I offered with a shrug. "That happens in Hell, right?"

"No offense," Evelyn said flatly, "but if they really wanted you dead, they would've sent something stronger."

"…Ow," I muttered.

"But…" She added, cool as ever, "Don't get me wrong. You're infuriating. But you're not that important yet."

"Double ow!" I said, clutching my imaginary chest wound.

"Yet," Sera murmured sleepily. Still glued to my side.

Lilith's gaze lingered on me, serious now. "That's what concerns me."

I blinked. "What?"

"I've watched your progress. Your ability growth. And your luck. And now…" She leaned forward slightly, voice smooth as poison silk. "Even random demons are deciding to target you. That's not a coincidence."

I frowned. "But why? Why me? I haven't done anything. I just want to pass my tests and eat breakfast without dying."

Evelyn shrugged. "Some demons like to mess around. Kill for sport. Especially those with strong ties to Sin aspects—Envy, Wrath, Pride."

"Lust sometimes kills for sex," Lilith added, so casually it hurt.

Sera hummed. "And Greed kills for money."

I cringed. "So… the only ones that don't kill for fun are Gluttony and Sloth?"

"Nope," Evelyn said. "Gluttony can and will kill you. Especially if they're hungry."

Sera raised her hand. "Sloth is… fine. We just like to mess with people. Slowly. Mostly while we're sleeping."

I winced. "So basically… none of them are nice."

"Correct," Lilith said.

"Cool, cool," I muttered. "Definitely not stressed or paranoid or traumatized right now."

"Point is," Lilith continued, standing, "you're not ordinary."

I leaned back against the couch, the weight of that statement hitting like cold water down my back.

She wasn't wrong.

I wasn't just an academy student.

Not really.

And the more I tried to play it safe, the deeper I got dragged into Hell's mess—magic, politics, and powerful creatures with agendas.

"I just want to finish the academy," I muttered.

"You think academy ends when you graduate?" Evelyn snorted.

"You think anything ends here?" Sera said lazily. "Everything's just foreplay."

Lilith rolled her eyes but smirked faintly. "I'll investigate whether this was a random attack or something deeper."

She pointed at me. "You—go clean up. Rest. And don't think this conversation is over."

I nodded solemnly. "Yes, ma'am."

Then she leaned down, cupped my chin, and kissed my forehead.

Warm. Soft. Scary.

Then, without another word, she turned and walked toward her room.

But right before vanishing behind the curtain, she paused.

"Also," she added, like it was an afterthought, "next time you try to flirt with a boss… at least wink before you blow them up."

I groaned. "Can we not talk about the seduction strat?"

Evelyn smirked.

Sera giggled.

And Lilith?

She disappeared into her suite like the queen she was.

And me?

I headed to my room, Sera trailing behind me like a sleepy cat who owned the place, and Evelyn vanishing down the opposite hallway.

Because this?

This wasn't over.

It never really was.

But for now?

Maybe—just maybe—I could get that nap.

And hopefully, not wake up in another boss room.
